Houston National Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2024Needs some attention
I loved the layout, very challenging. The conditions weren't great...fairways in need of some weed and feed. The greens were a tad fast, but in good shape. I'd play it again, but hope they give some care to the non-members course.
Southwyck Golf Club
Played On 10/27/2023Course has improved
I swore off this course on my last review, but gave it another shot because of a cheap hot deal. The course conditions were a lot better than a month ago. The fairway cracks caused by the summer heat have gotten better. The overgrown areas in the rough and elsewhere have been taken care of as well since my last play. The back 9 is in better shape than the front. Pace of play was pretty good on the Friday morning I played. Certainly not a great course, but glad to see them put some work on it. They have gotten brand new carts, so that was also an added bonus. Friendly, accommodating staff. Southwyck is back in my rotation.
Bayou Golf Course
Played On 10/22/2023Fun course, but...
I live on the other side of Houston, but enjoy playing here now and then. The course was in pretty good condition, but there were some fairways that were bare in spots, I'm guessing because of the nearby saltwater, but what do I know? The greens were in great shape, a little faster than when I've played there in the past.
My only complaint was the pace of play, due mainly because of a 5-some that was allowed to play on a crowded weekend. That should never happen. I witnessed a couple golfers quitting on the back nine because of the pace of play. I'll be back, but hopefully without the 5-somes.
Southwyck Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2023Needs A Lot Of Work
Talking to other golfers at Southwyck, the overall sentiment is "they just don't care". They meaning Southwyck. Let me say, the staff is always nice and friendly. No issue with them. It's the course. It fits the "goat ranch" moniker. To their defense, thr Houston area went through an extremely hot and dry summer. The course was no match for the heat. Even after some recent rains the cracks in the fairways are everywhere. You feel beat down driving your cart with all the bumps on the course. I played recently and the grass is a mess with weeds taking over. The greens have gone downhill as well. I've played here close to 10 times in 2023 with the last time being the worst. Also, they don't have water available to drink on the course, so be prepared. Lastly, the clubhouse is showing it's age. The bathroom are in need or repair and updating. One of the 3 stalls didn't have a lock on it. The only thing that has kept me coming out there are the hot deals, but I think I'm going to stick to other courses and hope they get this course and clubhouse back to where it needs to be.

Played On 08/11/2023Fairways Burnt To A Crisp
The fairways are struggling to survive with the summer of 2023 heat here in Houston. The drought has left the fairways crispy and full of cracks everywhere. Fortunately the greens are nice. Also, it would be great if they provided water to drink throughout the course in this miserable heat.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the dry conditions affecting our fairways due to the summer heat. We appreciate your understanding and are glad to hear that you enjoyed our greens. Your suggestion regarding water availability has been duly noted for future improvement. Thank you again for your review, and we hope to see you again soon.
Wildcat Golf Club - The Lakes
Played On 06/19/2023Played a very hot, Hot Deal
I have zero complaints about the Lakes course at Wildxar. Fairways and greens in terrific shape. We played on a 100 degree day, but still enjoyed the day. Can't wait to get back out there again soon.
Thank you for visiting us and leaving us a positive review. We hope to see you back again soon!
Irving Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2023Good conditioned course
Played this course on a hot deal while in town on business. I looked at the Dallas area map and specifically looked for a course not surrounded by houses and this fit the bill. Loved the layout surrounded by natural grasses and wildflowers. Very scenic. Also liked the layout with the course being spread out and not having to dodge errant shots from other fairways. The fairways and greens were in good condition, but I found the greens very slow on this day. Play got a little slow after about 6 holes, probably due to cart path only following rain the night before. All in all an enjoyable experience.
Thank you for choosing our course while on a business trip to Dallas. We appreciate your kind comments about the natural surroundings and course layout and will take note of your feedback on the green conditions as well as any inconvenience caused by the cart path only order due to inclement weather. We hope to see you again soon!
Clear Creek Golf Course
Played On 12/09/2022Greens in great shape
This course gets kicked around by a lot of golf snobs, but there's really nothing to complain about. The greens are in really good shape after a very slow start in the spring. That seems to be the case every year. Hopefully 2023 will start off better.
Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
Played On 06/07/2022Great pace, slow greens
Fantastic day on the Highlands course on a very hot day. Finished round in 3 1/2 hours. Greens were a little slow for my taste on this particular day, but I don't think that's always the case.
Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
Played On 10/09/2021Great condition, slow play
We left after the 15th hole because of the slow play and we weren't about to break any course records anyway. The greens were in great shape. The driving range wasn't in the best condition. Staff was very friendly.
Clear Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/27/2021Ice/cold ruined greens
We played a week after Houston's cold weather blast and the greens were a disaster. That said, in 2020 they were in great shape so hopefully they will rebound.
Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2020Great shape
Today was my first time playing since the renovation. The course conditions were fantastic,. Pace of play got a little slow on the back nine, but we still finished under 4 hours I believe. I’m not a big fan of the holes that run along the side of the road. I couldn’t get the image of me pounding my ball through a windshield of a passing car out of my head during my swing and held back on my drives (pulling them left). For those of you mentally stronger than me with a better game, it won’t be an issue, but I found it distracting. Because of that, this course won’t likely go in my rotation.
Southwyck Golf Club
Played On 05/02/2020Disappointing greens
Tough. course for me with the water, wind and layout, but mostly enjoyable. We played a 4 hour round on a weekend, so no complaints there. The greens had been aerated, so that was a major disappointment for the day. Unfortunately there was no warning when booking through GolfNow, but that’s not their fault. The club was very good about social distancing allowing each of us individual carts.
