Sand Canyon Country Club
Played On 05/14/2016A great day
Played with 2 other singles and had a great day on one of the best for the money courses in the area. Broke 90 for first time in 6 rounds there so that was nice also. A good test for a mid hcp golfer.
Woodley Lakes Golf Course
Played On 04/23/2016Wide open
A good course to work on your game. It's main defense is length, as its wide and flat. And it's not real long, so it's real main defense is you, the golfer. Speed if play was avg for a nice Saturday at 4:45 and I shot 85 which is my best round in 6 months. A place I will bring my wife to as she is getting back into the game and needs few course challenges. Overall a pleasant but not challenging course.
Lost Canyons Golf Club - Sky Course
Played On 04/16/2016Dye/Couples gone to seed
This is a tough golf course and often windy due to location in Simi Valley. The lack of water makes for tight and inconsistent lies and makes a tough course downright discouraging for the decent but not great golfer. One hole on front 9 I've hit nearly my best drive and just can't get it across the ravine due to wind and distance and I'm hitting it 200 plus off the tee from silver tees of 6200 yards. Maybe I'll play here when I'm playing my best golf and see if I can break 100. I'm about a 16 hdcp, 61 yrs and this place is just no fun. I appreciate a good test, but this is mean golf.
La Purisima Golf Course
Played On 03/25/2016Tough as usual
La P is a tough track for the bogey plus golfer. But it is a rewarding test of your skills and shotmaking ability. Greens were recovering from aeration and a bit slow... thankfully. Lush rough that penalizes, seldom a flat lie in fairway and strategic bunkers and trees make for a tough day if you're not hitting it really well. I was pleased with my 94 and I'm a 16hcp. One day I hope to break 90 there.
Knollwood Golf Course
Played On 03/20/2016Nice course, severely overcrowded
Knollwood is a modestly challenging course with nice green fairways, a plus in SoCal, but is very crowded on the weekends, without enough carts to keep up. My GolfNow time was not processed as a single player (staff at Knollwood says that is normal for them, but I've never had the problem at other courses) and a 5 hour round (normal for weekends in LA) took 6.5 hours. Bring a sleeping bag if you want to play here on weekends...
California Oaks Golf Course
Played On 6/8/2013Nice course for taking the wife out for a round
Not too long but hard to overpower due to narrow fairways. Good green conditions but a little slow. A nice morning with the wife, but would go somewhere longer and a bit wider with my buddies. Good course for seniors (what it was built for).
