The Links at Greenfield Plantation
Played On 02/06/2014very good value for all levels
6 of us played and were asked to play as a twosome and a four. The lead twosome had to rush (20 minutes ahead of the first scheduled time) to join a waiting twosome who wondered why they had to wait with an open fairwsy ahead. They commented our group could have stayed together and not disrupt the flow. After the first hole we did just that, waited for our group and picked up the faster twosome leaving the remaining two to play behind. Throughout the round our four was right behind the original twosome and sometimes had to wait. Other than that we had an excellent time on a challenging course with lots of water. Our scores from the white tees were as good as we would normally shoot after getting used to the really slow greens! Be aware of ponds cutting farther into the fairway than the card suggests especially on the approach shots. Markers at the edge would help!
Hunters Pointe Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2013A great course for the value and challenge
Always plays tough even on non windy days. Greens are large but tricky with subtle breaks. Uphill to some greens makes club selection a thoughtful process. Well worth playing either regularly or a few times a season.
Jacaranda West Country Club
Played On 8/4/2013Excellent reasonably priced course for all levels!
Played from the blue tees and scored 98 with some typical mental blunders. White tees probably more appropriate for handicap. Really enjoyed the conditions, layout and greens. Lots of sand traps strategically placed especially at the greens. Well worth playing.
Heron Creek Golf and Country Club - Oaks/Marsh Course
Played On 8/4/2013A challenging round of golf on an excellent course!
Played twice recently - Oaks to Marsh then Creek to Oaks. Senior player hit from the whites and scored low to mid 90s. Really liked the layout and conditions of Creek followed by Oak then Marsh was less appealing. Conditions were very good for all 3 nines with big challenging greens with usually a lot of contour - levels and/or hollows that cause excellent-looking approach shots to roll off in any direction. Becoming familiar with the greens will help scores. Not complaining just don't get frustrated. Personnel were all very welcoming and helpful.
Boca Royale Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/31/2013Good course for all levels
Senior, usually 90 - 95, like to play about 120 slope from the white tees. The course has some unusual/interesting holes especially on the front nine. Not too long but uses doglegs and hazards effectively to challenge players. Greens are well-kept and provide some tricky reads. Maintenance is good for this time of year and the dry conditions. Played as a twosome and once we played through a mixed foursome the pace was excellent.
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
Played On 3/26/2013Excellent reasonably priced course for all levels!
We were first timers playing from the Green Tees. Accuracy off the tee is a must with water or other trouble often in play. We played in windy conditions so location was extra important. Not long so you can forego some distance and still reach the greens in reg. The greens were in excellent shape, medium fast and with some very subtle breaks that makes you groan when you see the track of your ball. We will definitely play it again.
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 3/13/2013Great value and always challenging!
An excellent choice for all levels of players. As a senior with ok skills (usually low to mid 90's for a 120 slope rating) I'm happy to break 100 on this course from the white tees. Lots of water and sand traps plus some waste bunker areas with hard pack sand/shell mixture means accuracy is key. I like the well-kept greens - smooth and medium fast with tricky breaks (at least with the normal pin placements). There are course marshalls to monitor players and I guess they try to support some groups to pick up the pace.
Lane Tree Golf Club
Played On 11/09/2012A fun place to play for all levels
Good conditions. Variety of tees to match all levels. Some interesting layouts especially on the back nine. Well worth the money.
Thundering Waters Golf Club
Played On 8/10/2012Interesting unique layout!
Staff was very helpful from the start. The course was in excellent condition. Most bunkers were obvious BUT if you play it for the first time check the card for hidden traps and danger areas. A more detailed booklet would be helpful or GPS. Black tees were very challenging on some holes for a 20 handicapper. All in all the course was very fair for all levels of play.
I have played this course and am shocked that you apparently rode the only golf cart at Thundering Waters that does not have a giant screened GPS! Wow! All carts at the course come equipped with a large screen GPS to allow first timers vital visual notification of hazards. Which course did you play? I look forward to your future reviews.
