Watchung Valley Golf Club

The best course you've never heard of!!! The multi-million dollar restoration of this Seth Raynor course (led by former Doak associate George Waters) has produced a classic golf course on par with any in the state. It's simply that good. All the great Raynor templates are present along with some engaging original holes. Of course being set in a beautiful mountain site with expansive views of the Watchung Mountains doesn't hurt either!
Watchung Valley GC is a course that makes you think. Sidehill lies paired with fast and firm playing conditions put the ground game and shotmaking at a premium. The punchbowl par 3 13th is a true standout as are the drivable downhill 15th, an excellent Road hole at #7, the strong Eden with long view of the mountain at #11, and the Prize Dogleg 16th - to name a few.
WVGC is the kind of course you can't wait to play again and would love to be a member of. I'm not sure there's higher praise for any course than that.

In my opinion, one of the most architecturally deficient private courses in the state. Classic Hal Purdy boringness. Narrow, uninteresting, and just generally unfun. A "Doak 2" at best. Not a single memorable hole.
