Always Excellent

After the Covid break I got back to play Atunyote. Turning Stone is without a doubt still the premier golf destination I visit, and Atunyote is a national gem.. The staff and course always, and continues, to set the standard for a first class golf destination. The course was beyond immaculate and the experience is second to none. The course is high-end yet is a bargain to those in golf havens such as Phoenix, Las Vegas and Florida. The personnel, clubhouses, food, pro-shop, all out-shine any that I have visited before.

For those looking to do a golf trip Turning Stone gets my "Best in Show" with Atunoyte, Kaluhyat and Shenendoah,

This is a riot, best par 3 ever.

As with everything at Turning Stone this is a first class golf experience. Find me a better par 3 course. What fun. These 9 holes play from 11 8 to 234 yards. Many holes have forced carries, and every hole has a tournament quality green with multiple bunkers. If you think you need just a sleeve of balls you could be in for a big surprise. This course was not on our initial trip but we made a return to TS just to play this little Gem before our trip home.

Make sure you say Hi to Susan, she epitomizes the Turning Stone crew that are dedicated to your great golf trip.

Turning Stone Original

This course use to be in the top 100 you can play from Golf Digest, it has since dropped out. This year I have played a few of the 2019 top 100 (besides TS), and the Shenandoah course lapped them, smoked them, left them in the dust !!!!. Remarkably well kept and the new seven holes of the redesign melted right in to the Rick Smith design. True championship greens running at 10.5 and fairways you could eat off.

This course is more playable then Kaluhyat and Atunyote but by no means a push over. Sloped at 145 from the tips and 135 from the whites, it will keep you busy.

Finally you always get the Turning Stone experience. Fine food, great staff, and beyond first class golf. You can not go wrong at Shenandoah, in fact it can't be much more right.

Atunyote far exceeds 5 stars

Returning to Turning Stone does not disappoint. Golf at Turning Stone is not a round of golf but a golf experience. Our groups first round was at the Tom Fazio masterpiece, Atunyote. We played on September 16 2019, the weather was an extraordinary late summer day hovering around 70 degrees. The company was old friends and the course was beyond exceptional. These culmination of events, combined with the complete dedication of Turning Stone Golf to an amazing experience, made this one of the greatest, if not the greatest golf day of my 40 years of golf.

Our foursome was split among three tees, Blue (6998 Yards 74.4/140), White (6561 Yards 71.7/134) and Gold (6069 Yards 69.5/127). The fairways were pristine and the greens rolled pure. Green speed was 10.5 and required a keen eye to read the subtle breaks. The breathtaking natural beauty of this course is recognized as it sits in a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

In 2019 Atunyote was once again on the Golf Digest top 100 courses the public can play. The Golf Digest award is just one of over twenty-five awards Atunyote has received since 2012. I have played many courses on Golf Digests list over the years. I have yet to find anything that exceeds Turning Stone dedication to the customers. From the moment you pass through the gate at Atunyote to the moment you leave the Fazio gem you are surrounded by excellence.

Make sure you arrive early the practice area is immaculate. The short game area is the best I have enjoyed since the last time I played Turning Stone. After the round take advantage of the clubhouse dining room and enjoy the view off the porch with a great meal, or your favorite drink. The only issue is Golf Adviser limits reviews to 5 stars, Turning Stone Atunyote clearly surpasses that scale.

The Turning Stone Monster

Arrived early for our golf outing so ended up playing Kaluhyat twice. This is a local favorite and Turning Stones second course to be in Golf Digests top 100 you can play list. This course plays to a 145 slope from the tips and even 135 from the white. Honestly I have played a few 135 courses and this is certainly every bit of this. It's a course where you can tame a hole or two but beating the beast would be a rare occurrence. This course always sends me back home to Myrtle Beach with my tail between my legs.

The shear beauty of every hole on this Robert Trent Jones Jr. track can not be matched. The natural experience is once again on display where all Turning Stone Courses are Audubon International "Certified Signature Sanctuary"

So why continue to come back here, its like Mt Everest, I want to tame the beast. My three golf partners were here for the first time. While one did say he never wants to be beat up like that again he was the first to ask when are we coming back.

Kaluhyat like all Turning Stone course is the golf experience not a round of golf. Let me congratulate Head Pro, Jeff Kleinman and his complete staff on providing us with a four day golf adventure of royal proportion. Every one from Alex in the pro shop to Emily and Corrine on the beverage cart have an infectious can do commitment. Also, take time and enjoy the food and drink at the clubhouse, SOAK IT ALL IN.

Worth the trip

Play this course on your next trip. Fairways, greens and sand traps are all well maintained.. If on a buddies trip they have a breakfast and lunch deal that allows you to enjoy the Magnolias restaurant at the club house. This is a great atmosphere to review your round. The greens were punched in the summer and are now in absolute great condition, rolling true and pure.

The course has numerous great holes with the 4th, 5th and 6th the best run on the course, all three of these holes have a forced water carry and are very well designed. The front 9 finishes with back-to-back par 5's. Turning to the back number 10's dog leg right with water tempting you to see how much of the corner you want to bite off.

This is considered a value course and is often overlooked. I thought the pace of play was excellent and your round should not exceed 4-4 1/4 hours, often times even better. While it will not beat you up, it will challenge you through out the round. This is the best of Sea Trails trio.

The only down side to this course is the cart paths can be a little rough. Its a 5 Star value and much better than many of the designated "Premium" courses on the Grand Strand.

Give it time

I have reviewed this course multiple times. I currently say stay away. The summer has been brutal on the bent grass greens, and it certainly shows here. I would not even head back and try again until early to mid October, the greens need cooler weather and time to heal. With this I would highly recommend the sister courses on Sea Trail, Byrd or Jones. Both of these courses are in great shape and have Bermuda greens.

Great Value, Great Turn-Around

In 2016 I reviewed this course as "Stay Away." It has turned around remarkably. Having a great admiration for Maples designed course,.I am very excited about the turn-around here. The fairways are very lush and give you a great lie. The greens are a little soft but roll very well. The traps are well maintained to include the waste bunkers.

I played the "whites" at just 5900 yards. The rating/Slope is 69.7/127. There are plenty of challenges with many forced carries. There are at least 8 holes that water comes into play, and the views and angles make this a fun and challenging track..

Pace of play is great and they currently single tee Maples, a rarity for the Myrtle Beach area. This course also drains very well, so they seldom play cart path only. I give it a five star value rating, and should be a strong 3.5 star in conditions. I always rate courses with housing lower and the cart paths will defiantly rattle your around. Give it a whirl, I plan to play it much more now that it is back in shape.

Needs time to return to glory

Aberdeen needs a break.. The work is showing although they just can get a break. After two floods this early summer has been cruel to this once challenging gem. Water is at a shortage and after 17 days without a drop of rain the course has seen extreme drought conditions. The irrigation ponds are at the lowest level I have ever seen. The fairways are almost bare and the greens are distressed. The greens look terrible but somehow they seem to roll fine. A testament to the hard work they are attempting to keep this course up.

Aberdeen is investing money in and it appears they are putting new greens on the Meadows course. The course will return but for now I must warn golfers to stay away. I recommend that if you are thinking about going drive in and get a quick look. If the grass is back give her a shot.

Sand Hills Special

Currently rated 53 in the 2019 Golf Digest Top 100 places you can play. While excellent I believe it is slightly over-rated. The greens and fairways were in fantastic condition, it would have been a challenge for them to be better. Course layout is considered by many to be diabolical, for me it was just convoluted. There were way to many blind shots. A few holes you can not even see the fairway from the tee, much less the greens. They had at least 7 holes requiring you to ring a bell so the group behind you knew it was safe. The bunkers/waste areas were challenging yet penal and the greens were exceptional in the way they were sloped to either assist a good shot or punish a slightly bad one.

The combination of green reading, requirements, people not ringing bells, and totally blind shots make this a long round. You should plan to spend a minimum of 4.5 hours here on a round of golf. We played the front in 2:10 and the back in 2;40. We ran into a deliberate group of golfers that were obviously perplexed by the greens. This would be a norm for a day of golf here,

We played from the Disc marker (traditional blue/white).
The course rating/slope was 71.3/143 and played out to 6317 yards.

My golf partners rated this as a personal top 10, for me a definite return, but not nearly a top 10. Although due to the uniqueness of this course it should be a must play for the avid golfer.

Top notch golf Experience

Have played there for years and I always return. They not only provide an exceptional golf experience, but also their star studded top-notch staff and customer service is unmatched. They are committed to provide the best possible customer experience both on and off the course. This year once again they have two courses in the “Top 100” you can play. I moved to the Golf capital of the world, Myrtle Beach a few years ago. I have more choices for golf and club fitting than almost anywhere in the world, yet I return to Verona NY annually for club fittings and to play Atunyote, Kaluhyat, and Shenendoah tracks.

This year during club fittings I worked with Ryan McGinnis a true professional golf fitter. I was determined to buy the new driver a Taylor-Made M-5 or Callaway Epic Flash. Ryan worked for over an hour and a half , and with his assistance I ended up with new shafts for my two year old driver. I got the distance I needed and was treated not as a “sales goal” but a golfer who wanted game improvement. Golf is a game of integrity and Turning Stone staff delivered again.

I could rave about their courses but I can not match the spot on accolades delivered by the major golf publications. I would like to share a story about their commitment to the experience of great golf. A few years back a friend and I played at the end of the season and just walked on. It was a cold Fall day with rain in the air. Myself and my friend were the only ones crazy enough to be out that day. Signed in to play and was told to wait 30 minutes before I go out. I had no idea why the wait, no one was there. What the staff at Turning Stone had done was send out a full greens maintenance team in front of us, to blow all the leaves off the tee boxes, fairways and greens. (Fall in NY has millions of leaves blowing). They consciously stayed just about a hole and a half in front of us, clearing the way for a great day of golf, despite the weather.

Turning Stone in nothing short of perfection.

Great track on North End

I play numerous rounds in the Myrtle Beach area and have not visited Crow Creek in about two years. Since that time they have redone their greens. The re-do makes this a must play for any friends trip down on the Grand Strand. The course is wide open and not extremely long but do not let that fool you. The challenge is the greens. They are fast, pure, and fair,. They have tiers on all most all holes and if you are looking for a flat straight putt then look elsewhere. Bring your green reading expertise and enjoy the challenge. I also believe they have some of the best par 3's down here and water can come into play if you are not careful.. The fairways are great the course is great and the facility is top notch. Even the food is great. Do not make the mistake I did and wait two years to play this gem. . I will be back as soon as I can .

Tough Go .. But great experience

We played this as a Hot Deal and received free replay due to pace of play. The first day we played we were 40 minutes late teeing off and a 6 some was out on the course. This made for a miserable time and we did not even finish before dark. Kudos to the course for issuing an apology and a free replay.

The days we played were perfect to golf with almost no wind. The course has first rate practice facilities, I would say they were one the best that I have ever seen. The course is truly a test of golf, with a 149 rating from the tips (7400 yds) A 144 from the blues (6800 yds) , 139 from the whites (6200 yds), The fairways were pure, the traps well maintained and the greens rolled true.

This is a Nicklaus design with severely undulating greens and penal collection areas. They are well bunkered with multiple collection areas, any shot that was not 100% pure would roll off the greens and often times go 30-35 yds away into a collection area or a bunker.

The toughest greens I have ever played. But it was fun. The course is about 50 minutes outside downtown Vegas but worth the trip. Finally enjoy the great layout and supreme grander of the course, It will humble most golfers.

Cold but good test

Played in 35-40º weather. No issues with pace of play. Greens were fast and true. Tight driving areas throughout the track. A number of really good holes with danger left, right, and back. Traps were well maintained and fairways were good considering it was December 31. Can't wait to play it again in the Spring.

Arnies Revenge

This course was in great condition and is noted for its 9th hole (Arnies Revenge). While 9 is an extremely tough hole, the beauty of 16, 17, 18 are hard to beat. The forced carries on 17 and 18 are challenging. I think a must play for the Grand Strand

Stay away

Played this course during a week long buddies trip. We played 13 rounds and Sea Trail Maples was the most disappointing of our trip...In fact the most disappointing of all our trips down here. The course condition from bald tee boxes and fairways (especially the front 9) and waste bunkers that had not had attention in months made it not worth it at all. In the spirit of true disclosure the Byrd and Jones course at Sea Trail were both very nice.
