Riverside Golf Course
Played On 02/01/2024Best value muni in Austin
RIverside GC is the former Austin Country Club, now part of Austin Community College. Staff is awesome, the greens are in great shape on most holes. Tee boxes can use a little work. Par 5s are reachable in 2. Very walkable course. Great value!
Morris Williams Golf Course
Played On 05/21/2023solid Austin muni
First time at Mo Williams. About 6600 yds from the Blue tees (71.9/128). Only a couple of holes had water, but some of the tee shots were a bit tight or needed a big carry. Was pretty slow, but expected for a weekend. Followed a group playing the tips who should not have been. No marshals on the course, no water, and didn't see a drink cart until #16. Bottleneck at #3 which is a long and challenging par 3 over water. Tee boxes and greens all around need some attention. Overall, enjoyed the round and will go back soon.

nice track in good shape. not very long, 6300 yds from back tees, but enjoyable. traps and greens maintained. weekend pace was sloooow, so be prepared and patient.
Reston National Golf Course
Played On 05/19/2019Challenging public course
Resting National is a solid, if pricey, offering in Northern VA, where there are not a ton of great alternatives. Par 3s are long, almost 200 yds from Black tees (one up from tips). Fairways are not overly wide and rough is deep enough to force course management. biggest issue was in green side bunkers, Not nearly enough sand in many, with poor drainage. Cost was about $25 more than the Montgomery County, MD munis, making Reston not the best value. It was a fun track to play and we had great weather.
General's Ridge Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2018Challenging public course!
General's Ridge bills themselves as the toughest course in Northern VA, and they may be right. The slope from the tips is 143. It's not overall long, but it is very narrow, hilly, and has several blind shots. Not for a player who struggles to hit it straight off the tee! The fairways were OK, greens were great, but the tee boxes and bunkers were not in great shape. After recent rains, the water collected, making cart paths slick and lots of mud balls. #1 handicap hole in VA is here, requiring a tee shot of 190-220, and a 170+ approach that plays 2 clubs longer because it is straight uphill. Worth checking out if you want a challenge and are prepared to lose a few balls.
1757 Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2016Short but tough course near Dulles airport
Challenging course, values accuracy over distance. Many water holes. Greens firm, undulating and fast. Bunkers not well maintained, not enough sand and supports like netting poking through. Course app for iPhone had nice tips and GPS. Would definitely play it differently the 2nd time. Enjoyed the round, still a bit pricey though even with GolfNow rate.
Redgate Golf Course
Played On 09/06/2015Solid public course in Montgomery County
RedGate isin good shape for a public municipal course. Tee boxes a bit scruffy, but fairways, greens and bunkers in pretty good shape. Not a lot of water but plenty of blind shots. Overall good value, played for $40 including cart. Nice staff, easy to get a hot dog and a beer at the turn. Recommend this course!
I was happy to hear that were treated to an enjoyable golfing experience here at Redgate. Thank you for your business.

Fort Belvoir Golf Club - Gunston Course
Played On 08/16/2015Solid military course
Fort Belvoir has 2 full 18-hole courses but construction to build an Army museum is impacting play, closing most of the Gunston course. Clear signs make it easy to get from one hole to another during re-routing. Fairways and greens are in good shape, although some tee boxes are temporary and some just need work. Bunker are hit or miss regarding quality. Overall solid value for under $60 including cart.
Dogwood Trace Golf Course
Played On 6/26/2013The best public course in the area!
Great course. Well maintained and challenging layout. Par 3s are over 200 yards each from back tees. Several par 4s are tough to reach in 2 from the white tees. Good value, rounds about $40 including cart.
River's Bend Golf Club
Played On 6/18/2013Great potential but poorly maintained
This course was the gem of the RVA in 2004, but owners have let it fall apart. Bunkers have no sand, tee boxes are in bad shape. Challenging layout made tougher by the poor conditions. Slow pace of play with older and mixed foursomes, some fivesomes.
