Check in is always a circus here. One guy running the process. And for over a year it seems to be his first day using a computer. Four employees behind the counter. Only one working on check ins. Due to their computer skills a long line forms. The other three laughing and joking. Not a great optic from a customer service standpoint.

The greens were like putting on a head of broccoli. But I’ve seen much worse.

Despite these issues this is still a nice course and worth playing for the money.

Only 3 complaints:

Strangely the run up areas on many greens were saturated and in places muddy. I’ve never seen this here before.

The speed on the greens seemed to change back and forth during the round.

The greens had so many furrows I wondered what they planted. I know it’s a hold over from aeration and all courses get this to varying degrees. However, this was the worst I have encountered. It impacted several putts.

I must say in my few other rounds here I found the conditions good.

Greens looked like a mine field. Putted like them as well. I and my playing partners were repairing 3-4 ball marks per green. Plus whomever is setting the pins now must’ve skipped training. Putting through the old hole locations was a challenge as well. Glad I had not paid the full regular greens fee. Guess the Iron Horse regulars are playing at Fossil Creek now.

Only half the holes open thanks to flooding. Green fast and in good shape even though just sanded.

Would have been nice to have been informed at check in there would be no cart service and only 2 water jugs on the course. Grabs drinks after checking in!

Not a fan of fairways that feed balls to the water and elusive yardage indicators. But it was only a $24 round.

Basically it is in pretty good shape. This year they are struggling with a water issue..too much of it. Lots of mushy areas in the fairways and around the greens. The tee boxes are in good shape. The greens were just aerated so putting was interesting. For warm up you have to hit from mats even though there is ample grass available. I’m not sure why we hit from the mats. Nice large putting green that is usually very similar to the pace of the on course greens. Well worth the fee I paid I would say.

Course itself is in good condition. First I saw if the beverage cart was on my 17th hole. This has always been a problem at this course during the week. They either don’t show up, show up hung over, go home sick (hung over), break down, get delayed in the clubhouse or one of many other excuses Ive heard over the years. The young ones seem to not understand the courtesy aspects in golf: like not driving up as you are swinging or hollering across a fairway as you are swinging. At least the water in the jugs was cold!

Course had received heavy rains over night so it was sloppy and cart path only. The tees and greens are in good shape. the practice range is still mats only. It was very hot and humid but there are several old water stations on the course. It was still a great value for the highly discounted rate on GolfNow.
