The Trophy Club of Atlanta
Played On 03/24/2017Greens were tough!
Played this course immediately following an outing. I don't know if the pin placements were made more difficult just for the outing, but they definitely were tough. Having local knowledge of this course would have been helpful. And unfortunately we had to start on the back, with a par 5. Once I started paying attention to the maps which were at the tips things got a little easier. All in all not a bad course, would love to take it on against mid season.
Cooks Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2016One of my favorites!
This is a course my group always works in to our rotation. This truly is like country club golf on a beer budget. We drive up from Cincinnati annually for this gem, and for $25 it was a no brainer,
The course was in great condition, except for the bunkers, but it had rained the night before so no big deal.
Woodside/Valley View at Weatherwax Golf Course
Played On 10/17/2016Gonna miss u old friend!
I had heard that this 36 hole gem was closing, so myself and a buddy decided to get in one last round.
We played on a Monday (my day off) and wanted to try to play all 36 holes($25 all you can play). The course showed some signs of neglect but was still better than some courses I played this year. I'm really concerned about the number of golf course closings in this area, and this one in particular will be sorely missed!
A. J. Jolly Golf Course
Played On 09/19/2016Just beautiful!
A buddy and I like to play on Mondays because courses are usually less crowded. Such was the case here. We finished our round in 3 hours! The weather could not have been better, and the course conditions were very good. This course is sone of the most visually pleasing that we play. And we seldom play the same cause more than once in a season! (lucky to live in an area with such an abundance of great courses).
Harbor Links at Sagamore Resort
Played On 06/26/2016Worth the Drive
This is not an easy course to get to, from any major city in the area. But rest assured it is worth the trip.
we arrived to find our name and tee time machine printed on our carts (nice touch)! The staff was very friendly, and we teed off on time. We got around in a little over four hours, which was not bad for a Sunday.
If I have any complaint, it is that on quite a few holes you had either an elevated tee box or an elevated green (kind of tough on a senior with bad knees) but still the layout was both fair and interesting.
Too hard, too tricky
played this course on a recommendation from a friend. I was told the fairways weren't great, but the greens were good.
I found the fairways to be very hard ( needed water, and way too many unnecessary mounds.) The greens were also a little too protected (hidden water, and/or sand ) with greens that would not hold. Just made the course too penal for a mid to high handicapper.
Played 4 days in central Florida, and this was my least favorite course.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 02/12/2016Really good course for the money.
Played this course in early December. It was in a little better shape at that time, but I still feel that value makes this course appealing to the average guy coming to The Orlando area for multiple days of golf..
Stonelick Hills Golf Course
Played On 12/12/2015Last Hoorah!
My foursome loves this course, however due to some of the highest public course green fees in the area, we usually only play it in late fall or early spring when the rates are reduced. We were fortunate enough to catch a nearly 70 degree day in mid December, and even though it was a bit soggy ( cart path only) conditions were still pretty good. Our only gripe was that they took away the tee markers (except for blue tees) . So we just had to kind of figure out where to hit from. This course deserves its rating (number two in the state). Next season we plan on treating ourselves to a round in mid- season!
Heatherwoode Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2015great front bad back
Love this course, the back side is definitely the more challenging side, Conditions were good, greens fast but true. Caught a good deal, Normally kinda pricey.
Hueston Woods Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2015A Real Treat!
My group makes an annual pilgrimage to this course
every year on Father's Day weekend. This year however, we were rained out. We had to quench our thirst for the challenge that this course always seems to deliver. So we took on the challenge a few weeks later and found the course as always in great condition. Friendly staff great rates, and not a single house to take away from nature.
Walden Ponds Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2014Moist Sunday Round
Due to previous rain, it was cart path only. Since I am 60+ with bad knees I dreaded this scenario, but due to the fact that the course is not extremely hilly I managed to get around without problems. It is a good, well cared for course that even though I seldom play it well,is in my second tier of favorite Cincy/Dayton courses.
Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2014Sunday Slow
Great price, Sunday slow. At this price($25) they probably overbooked. Howevever, this is a quality facility and I could not really complain. Some of the greens had some bad spots, but overall pretty good.
Belterra Casino Golf Club
Played On 03/15/2014Worth the trip!
This is a course that my group loves, unfortunately during the regular season the fees are more than we are willing to pay. However at their pre or post season rates it is more than reasonable.
This course has the perfect mix of easy and challenging holes, and even coming out of a really tough winter, the course conditions were pretty good.
Madden Golf Course
Played On 09/22/2013A Classic
I have over 50 years of history with this course. I caddied for my dad, and learned the game on this course. I now live in Cincinnati
So I only play it once or twice a year.
It is refreshingly unchanged, other than the clubhouse. Still a beautiful and challenging track.
Legendary Run Golf Club
Played On 8/31/2013Cart path only!
Love this course. Had not played it in a couple of years, and it was well maintained as always. Had some pretty heavy rain this morning so it was cart path only. At 61 with bad knees it was no treat(certainly not the golf courses fault). And once the superintendent thought it was ok they came around on a cart and let us know that 90degrees was ok. This is always a good golf experience, plus who else has a 19th hole for settling bets!
The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
Played On 08/24/2013Always enjoyable!
This course makes it into our rotation at least 2 to 3 times a year.
With the abundance of good public courses in this area, when we decide to pay $45+ for weekend play we're a little picky. This course never let's us down.
Tough pins!
Who ticked off the greenskeeper? I drive up from Cincinnati at least once or twice a year to play this gem of a course. I am a 17 handicap(61years old) and this is one of my favorite courses. However the pin placements(especially on 18) were almost unfair.
Number 18 is a great challenging hole and I think if you can get there in regulation, that a gimmicky pin placement is a bad way to end a round..
Majestic Springs Golf Course
Played On 6/30/2013Good course, somewhat remote.
I like this course. It is a mom and pop course, and is surprisingly well maintained. They were redoing the bunkers ( several were in disrepair) however the greens and tee boxes were as good as most I've played. Great value for $32 on a Sunday.
