Grand Marais Golf Club

Good old golf course. Postage stamp greens that are domed. I've been playing here for over 40 years. The golf course is not in good shape, it hasn't been in over 40 years, so don't go there expecting Annbriar conditions, or even Tamarack conditions. Even the normal weekend rate with a cart of $29 isn't a bad deal. A Hot Deal makes this one of the best deals around. There are several challenging holes that will test middle to long irons, depending on the tees you play, the course loses a lot of its bite from the white tees. Fivesomes and even the occasional sixsome can be the norm here. Players are pretty good about letting others play through, or the most common thing is to simply skip by them and just play those holes at the end. Just be prepared and understand the unwritten protocols and you'll have a good time. The staff is always friendly, and they don't gouge you on the cost of cold beer. I hope to see Doug out there again soon behind the counter, you are missed my friend.

Played On 07/13/2018Pace of play was horrid and grass on tees were ridiculously long
First six holes flew by then came upon a logjam. I had enough and left on the17th hole. I should of known by how long the grass was on the driving range that the tees and fairway grass would be long also. I saw someone else complain a couple of weeks ago ago about the length of the grass on the tees. Management replied and said something about recent rain and chemicals. No recent rain for a few days. Just obscenely long grass on the tees that seemed to always be growing into you. Greens held and putted true. They just need to get a mower out and a course Marshall out. Probably wouldn't play again.

Played On 05/06/2018Would never pay full price
Greens were patchy. Bare spots around the greens. Great layout. Need course Marshalls enforcing pace of play. Bunkers were mud, truly disappointimg. Would never pay full price to play this course $60+on a weekend. Paid $30, about what it's worth.
Clinton Hill Country Club
Played On 08/05/2017Worst pace of play in the Metro area
I grew up playin this course and working at this course. It has become unplayable due to the horrible pace of play. Back ups on every tee. No course Marshalls in sight to reinforce pace of play. Even putting the white tees where the ladies' tees used to be doesn't help. Expect a 5 1/2 hour round or worse on a weekend. When I worked here in the 80s we had Marshalls on the weekend and they kept players moving. They helped fore caddy and let groups know when it's safe to tee off.
I won't be going back. It's a shame that a good course has been rendered unplayable.
Hi there! We are sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience. We are a little confused though because we had a tournament on your day of play and we had to make sure the everyone played in under 4 1/2 hours or our tournament would of been delayed in the afternoon. We would love to hear more about your experience. Please give us a call at (618) 277-3700 ext.2 and ask for our Director. We would love to right any wrongs! Thanks and have a great day!
