Challenging and demanding course

Whitney Oaks is an outstanding course located in a beautiful wildlife area in Rocklin, CA The club used to be private, but now is daily rate with memberships. The course gets considerable amount of play due to groups and tournaments. The practice facility is nice as it has a driving range, putting greens, and chipping area. The driving range balls are pretty beat up and could use a refresh. The proshop is a little lacking but has balls, gloves, towels, and most required accessories. Before I get to the golf, the food is outstanding so take time eat before or after the round. The Pyramid bar/grill is first class.

Golf: The course is very challenging and will require you to hit many clubs. The blue tees are deceiving as this is par 71 course. A few people knick name the course, Whitney Strokes as you will be loosing strokes to par pretty quickly. First time, I would recommend playing from the white tees. The course can be penal as any shots significant off line will be lost. The greens have different levels so shot placement and correct carry distance make two putts a norm. You have to play smart golf and be patient. Some rewarding holes that produce birdies but par is good score on most holes. If you want a challenging round of golf, give it a try. Remember, knick name.. Whitney Strokes.

We thoroughly enjoyed reading your well thought out review! Your suggestions for playing the golf course are great and we appreciate that you recommend people checking out The Pyramid bar/grill because, as you said, it's "first class".

Great value but can be crowded

I have played at East Potomac at least ten times and its a good course. The course is in Washington DC and centrally located near the monuments. The course is managed by Golf Course Specialties for National Park Service. At the facility there are three courses. The blue, white and red. The blue is the full 18 holes that is more of a regular course. Whereas the White and Red are more for the beginner and are 9 hole courses.

The course is a good layout with fairly straight forward golf. The course is not long so if you want a true test play from the back tees are you are a good golfer. However, if you are not capable of scoring less than 80, play it forward for pace of play. The course is one of the most played in the country with over 100K rounds per year. The facility is very busy on the weekend and expect a longer than normal round.

The proshop has a good selection of gear and is well priced under retail pricing.

The dining and great and offers a good selection of food and drinks The sell great hamburgers and beer so enjoy one after your round.

The course is fairly wet due to the proximity of the Potomac River so expect average conditions. The course gets tons of play but is a good course. There are resident red foxes that live on the course and you are more than likely to see one. The course is easy to walk so I recommend most to walk and either carry their bag or use a push cart.

Make an early tee time to miss the crowds.

Great course for the money

Great golf course located in NE DC. Its a National Park golf course managed by Golf Course Specialities. The front nine is fairly wide open and the back nice is quite harder and more picturesque. The course is in average to good condition. Play from the back tees for a harder challenge. Great value in DC and highly recommended. Great practice facility to include putting green, multiple greens for chipping and a large driving range.

The food is good and excellent value. The staff at the course are quite helpful and nice.

Langston was established in 1938 and is a good course. Great for beginners and not too many places to loose balls. The course is easy to walk but if you choose to ride, there are not many golf cart paths so be prepared for rough ride.

Have fun!!

Amazing Golf Course

I have played this course over 5 times and its one of my all time favorites and is one of the best values in California. This course was designed by John Daly so it plays long and hard. I do not recommend this course of a beginner unless you play from the closest tees to the green.

This course is well maintained is a professional golf course. The fairways and greens are outstanding and would be expected at a Private club and not at public links. The course has wide fairways but if you miss the fairway, you will lose your ball due to the heather grass and native grasses.

There are multiple tees to play from and I have played them all and shot between 77 and 85 between most of the tees. The par 3s play very long so try to play the tees that you feel that you will have the most fun. This course can be exhausting due to the difficulty of the length, rough and greens.

My father in law has started playing from the front tees and he has a great time whereas when he was at the normal tees he was so frustrated from loosing balls, forced carries and not having a chance to make par on many holes. Tee it forward for a better round.

The pro shop is outstanding and carries a lot of top name gear. The food is great when in operation.

I have played the course multiple times and its never crowded due to it location.

This course is one that would be very difficult to walk but doable with a push cart. However, the course will be hard enough as it is without added work.
