First Time Playing

Below expectations

First time playing this course so arrived 75 minutes before the scheduled tee time. After letting the outside staff know this was my first time here I sort of expected to be shown where to go, but no help until I asked for it.
Upon check-in in the proshop, I found out that they are a no cash facility so I could not pay for the green fee without credit. The staff in the proshop did not even know what type of greens were on the course when asked.
After going back outside to the bag drop area, I had trouble finding my golf bag as it was put on a cart and the cart was placed at the very end of a line of carts not easily seen. Lucky to have some help from bag drop staff person.
I felt like a dentist and had to pry out information from staff outside to find out where the driving range, putting and chipping greens and location of #1 Tee. Finally found a staff person that was willing to help, the starter "John".
It's 11:12, after warming up I proceeded to the starter and told him who I was and my tee time. He told me that I was late for my 11:18 tee time and that the other players had already gone ahead. They teed off at 11:00. Starter was only 25 yards from driving range and not once announced my name for the group so I guess I was not missed.
I joined with another nice single and we played as a twosome at 11:25.
I must say that the only person that I talked to that was very nice and helpful was the beverage gal, Megan which we saw several times during the round.
The entire 16 holes we never saw a course advisor on the course until the 17th Tee box. We were waiting on the box for the fairway to clear several minutes and as he drove by he didn't even wave, say hello, or even acknowledged us by stopping to see if we needed anything. Not very good customer service for a resort course.
We managed to play the course in 4hr 15min as a twosome as we had a slow 3 and 4 some’s ahead.
For a resort course the carts had nice coolers on them but no water bottles or ice to put in them. Kind of a let down for a warm day.
This being my first experience at one of the Omni Hotels courses on Amelia Island I was strongly let down. Guess I came to the course thinking it would be more since it was a resort course and not just like a city or municipal course.
Don't know if I’ll return unless I get a great reduced price or invitation.
For the other first timers, bring credit and change for gratuity if you like.
Just let down for the Omni Resort name.

Overall very nice with a few let downs

I have not been there for about 1 1/2 years. Participated in a 4-person scramble for Folds of Honor. Outside staff very friendly and very helpful. Practice facilities are close to clubhouse and cart staging which is great when in a tournament when carts cannot be moved. Hot and humid morning and course adviser was out early with cold towels. Nice job! there were a few greens that needed some major attention on the collars where the turf is dead and bear dirt. staff needs to get sod patches so the grass can regrow.
Downfalls: no yardage books available for purchase at front desk. answer was that they are getting new ones made. Course has not changed so why out?
Water feature between the 16th green and 17th Tee box was not working and looks as if it has been forgotten. When course first opened, this feature that Jack and Arnold designed was beautiful and the water was circulated from the lower pond to the upper by a pump house. Now the feature is full of weeds, mildew and algae since the water does not move. Hope someone reads this and brings it back to life. Would be nice to hear the running water in a quiet corner of the course.
Bonus: Compressed air hose at shoe cleaning station outside clubhouse to blow out/off the dirt and grass from your shoes.

On the right road

I have not played this course in over 15 months but last visit was very poor. Yesterdays visit was a complete turn around. Tee boxes were just a little course. Fairways very nice condition and divots were even being filled. Greens were somewhat slow and this was my only let down of the day as it was apparent their mowers for the greens were out of adjustment. on each track of the mower you can see one side was scalping and on hot days that is not good. Also the perimeters of the greens (not the collars) were forgotten as you can see where each pass started or stopped. They were watering the greens during the day which is great to see. Staff, inside and out were very receptive to constructive comments and seem to take them onboard. Was told that new head agronomist was hired and he is working hard to make things right. Bravo to him!
Aeration is taking place next week but I know I'll be back in a month or two to replay this course. Please keep up your efforts.

Needs Help!

My only positive experience was the nice greeting from the outside staff that meet me at my car with a golf cart.
When checking in I was greeted by a dull morning hello. When asked about range balls, a large bucket was 6.00 and only contained 40 range balls. After my warm-up routine, I looked around for a starter or outside staff and could not find a sole.
There were other singles and twosomes going off so I just blended in and hope that I was not out of turn. When I got to the 10th tee. I had a 5some before me and it took me 3 holes before I got through. Overall, grounds were bad, wet, weedy and it was like a ghost town for staff. Someone desperately needs to step in and help this course or it is going to dry-up and die. It has the potential to be a very nice golf course.

Work in progress

I had to give this course a overall of 3 stars for the following reasons: When checking in, none of the staff told me that there was no on-course beverage cart and the turn house was closed down which looked like a permanent closure. Yes they did have water jugs and cups on the course but never realized it until after the turn. I traveled 90 minutes to the course and the mens locker room had no place to sit in the locker area. There was a very large table and chairs in the next room. Just seemed the mens locker room was rather deserted with no life. On course it was pretty nice with a few greens having a stray weed/crabgrass issue but after the round the attendant told me that the greens keeper is really turning the course around. Just tales time. If you never played here before, know that the driving range is about a 4-5 minute cart ride away (across the main road from # 3 green) and there is only a putting green outside the proshop. It appears they are trying their best to bring the course back to life. I'd return since they have some good holes!

Needs attention to the small things

I live near this course and it seems they are trying to get back up to being one of the nicer courses but it's the small things that make me think twice about keeping the golfers they have. Today I noticed that the fairways were very fury (needs cutting), Tee Boxes need leveling (about 75% of the tees today were on a slant or had a gully), no shoe brush outside the half way house doors, no club cleaning devices (water or brush) on the driving range. These were just some of the things that golfers need at a course to keep coming back. The greens are so near to being back to their greatness of years ago. I think this course can make it to the top.
