Clear Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2022Should be better
The price is right, but if raising the price allows this venue to improve course conditions, it should be done. On a beautiful South Texas Spring day, this course is just average, blah.
The greens are in horrendous condition, sand, moss and weeds. With no warning or indication by the pro shop. Not even an, “we are working to restore the greens”- nothing.
No good representative maps or yardage books to provide a hint of hidden hazards, ravines, washes. Definitely, use GPS maps to try to get an idea of hazards and ravines or make sure your playing with an experienced local with extensive course knowledge.
Fairways were burnt st. augustine and weeds.
Pace of play was a minor issue. There was no marshal. No beverage cart attendant.
Everyone is a fan of cheap green fees, particularly on “municipal” courses, unfortunately, $36 gets you below par course conditions.
If you are not bothered by hitting off hard pan fairways and putting on threadbare greens, this course will suit you.
I’ll not be back…
Canyons Golf Course
Played On 08/04/2020Not worth $100
There are better options in the Park City area.
$100 per player gets you no driving range, no short game practice area, no beverage amenities other than a shack at the 5th hole, no ice for the cart cooler, no cart GPS, no pro shop.
The course is an afterthought addition to the resort.
Cart path is paved and dirt. Weaving in and out of vehicle traffic.
Really overpriced and not worth a visit.
The Club at Los Rios
Played On 04/27/2013Only at a discount - not full price
Like the other members of my improptu 4some, I played Los Rios because of the $19 deal on GolfNow.
Average course, great value at the GolfNow deal.
I would not play here at full price except for a free invite or a discounted deal.
Even though we were following a tournament, that did not affect pace of play. Poor etiquette by other players. Non-playing "members" of tournament (very pretty ladies) would drive carts around the course in the middle of swing set-up or in the middle of shot path.
Pros-
1. Easy course. Good for a beginner to hone skills. Lots of forgiveness. Few greenside bunkers.
2. Easy to get to, just minutes of the President George Bush Tollroad.
3. Staff is cordial.
4. Nice yardage book - more courses should provide this, to give an idea about the layout, bunkers and hazards.
5. Fairways were in decent condition. Some spots close to 2 or 3 greens were about 10 yard circular areas of ground that should have been marked under repair but were not.
6. Cart ladies came around often, friendly and funny.
7. Greens were interesting and fast, Need some more TLC, but decent.
8. Bunkers - not many and very few protecting the greens - again very forgiving for the beginner.
9. Gas carts - look pretty new.
Cons-
1. Clubhouse and Pro shop seem to date from 1970 (think Caddyshack) and smells like it too. Musty, stale, dated, dark.
2. Driving range is atrocious. Rock hard. They charge $5 for muddy, chipped cracked balls
3. Tee boxes - No good marking or references for distances. Rock hard.
4. Fairways parallel each other and not always clearly marked.
5. No GPS on carts.
6. Single person outhouses on the fairways (2).
7. Infrequent watering stations.
8. Dire need of a course marshal - particularly on a weekend..
9. The PA system crackled and was hard to hear sometimes.
10. No mens locker room. Bathroom in pretty bad shape - visualize high school restroom.
