The Metropolitan Golf Links
Played On 10/04/2019Ridiculously slow pace
Second and most likely last time playing this course. Took four hours to get through 13 holes and left because I got tired of waiting at every single hole and for every single shot. It was backed up one group at hole 2 and by hole 4 it was backed up two groups. The folks in front were hacking away 30-40 yards at a time and still keeping pace with the group ahead. Each shot took so long I could have had an artist paint me a portrait for every shot and probably still would have time left over. Completely insane that a course could get this slow and basically have no marshall intervention. If anyone has ever wanted to film a documentary or YouTube video about the slow play of golf or the effects of aging, come play at Metropolitan! That’s really the only reason to ware your life away here.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Valley Course
Played On 04/21/2018Always a lot of fun playing here
I have played valley a few times, and it’s always been enjoyable. Everyone was friendly and made our golf round very enjoyable. We had some slower players two groups ahead so ended up waiting on a few holes, but overall can’t complain. Only thing I wish could have been done better was the aerification notice. Usually if the greens are punched it will show up on the golf now app with a red triangle, but didn’t see that this time.
Crystal Springs Golf Course
Played On 03/04/2018Doubt I will ever come back unless they demolish the place and rebuild
Hate to write reviews like this, but...first off, the parking lot is ridiculously small. Had to park a long ways away, past a gate off the main road. Maybe it was built during a time when it was more common to ride your horse to the course. Second, the clubhouse...I couldn’t find it at first, all I saw was what looked like a large shed...oh wait, that shed is the clubhouse?? I’m not expecting something you’d see at a TPC course everywhere I go, but I think it’s a bad sign when the clubhouse looks like where they might be hosing down carts. Third, the first tee box is about the size of a walk-in closet, and it’s right by the main entrance road, where there’s a steady rotation of cars coming in and...looking for parking. A bit distracting, just a tiny bit. Fourth, seemed like every group ahead was painfully slow. Waited 30+ minutes to tee off, and i Believe there was exactly two holes the rest of the way where we did not have to wait more than 5 minutes. Took 3 hours to play the front 9. Overall it was kind of a surreal experience, and I don’t mean that in a good way.
Positives...course doesn’t have many flat areas, good if you like having a variety of lies. It had been raining quite a bit, course was soft, but still in decent shape. Price was cheap, but...see above. You get what you pay for,
Poplar Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/19/2018Lots of riff raff
Course is in pretty good condition. Greens had decent speed to them, although definitely not what most people would consider quick. They're doing a lot of repair work on the fairways, which is great. Staff here is always friendly. But the past few times I have played here, we have encountered some unsavory types, which is really unfortunate. The most recent encounter involved one member from our group being the subject of some ridicule from the group behind - all for no reason at all. Nobody wants to get treated like that. This group also had no sense of golf etiquette. Being crowded on every tee box was extremely annoying. If all of this wasn't bad enough, the group in front of us, refused to take their second shot until the group in front was off the green. Totally normal and expected on par 3's and on most par 4's...but on par 5's when your drive is ~200 with 300 left to go? Ridiculous. This course isn't the hardest, but it can be entertaining (a few driveable par 4's) which is why I like playing here. But it is a muni, and as a result it attracts all types, including those who don't respect other human beings and don't respect the game.
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 12/10/2017Nice muni
Nice well maintained course. Airplanes can be a bit distracting but not too bad. Layout feels a bit cramped (got chain link fences separating on a few holes) and some holes are way too close to surrounding apartments (random guy in parking lot of neighboring apartment came out of nowhere and started talking to us between holes). Didn’t like that some players were driving around playing random holes over and over again, sometimes creating delays by cutting in front of groups. But all things considered, would come back to play again sometime.
Poplar Creek Golf Course
Played On 12/03/2017Very slow pace of play
It took one hour between teeing off on #1 and teeing off on hole #2. Originally were told by the group in front of us that the backup was due to a tournament? Not sure where they got that info from, but the wait was four groups deep. Front nine took 3 hours. Some groups quit at the turn and back nine was slightly faster. Total time for round was 5.5 hours. Marshal came by several times, and play would speed up for one hole, then back to the same slow play.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Valley Course
Played On 10/21/2017Great course, bad restaurant staff.
Course conditions were great as usual. Pro shop guys, cart guys, driving range guys all very nice as usual. But restaurant staff had some serious attitude...Does being rude to patrons really help anyone?
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 10/14/2017Always a great time at Cinnabar Hills
Wasn’t too crowded the day we played so did not really see the group ahead or behind us all day. Course has some challenging holes and is very entertaining regardless of the combination you play. I’ve played two rounds here and have been able to play all three sets of nines, so far like mountain the best. Course conditions are very good, greens are smooth and medium quick. Their grill is very good and the staff are super friendly. Can’t wait to come back to play again!
Shoreline Golf Links at Mountain View
Played On 09/30/2017I'd probably play here if it was free, but only after thinking it over for a bit.
For the sake of my fellow golfers, I have to be honest: Shoreline has absolutely the worst course conditions I have experienced in 15+ years of playing golf. And the worst pace of play I have ever experienced. In case you're counting, that's two all time worsts on the same course and in the same round.
There are some negative reviews of Shoreline golf links on this site, but I don't think any of those accurately depict just how painful it can be to play at Shoreline.
Course Conditions: It is truly debatable whether there is more green grass vs dirt/dead grass on this course - I'm being completely serious. I understand things might not always get the care or resources they need on a muni course, but when you begin to have visions of being on the moon or Mars instead of a golf course, you know it's pretty bad. Gopher holes - it is real folks, our furry friends have created a colony on Shoreline golf links, and there are many, many, many on every hole. Think twice before you put that $4 Pro V1x into play! Goose droppings - be forewarned, there is a ton of poop pretty much everywhere on this course. Even if you didn't hit your Pro V1x into a gopher hole, it might end up covered in goose poop. Perhaps the most surprising thing was that all the greens were actually...green. They were also very bumpy and slow, but they were green, I said green!
Pace of play: We had the misfortune of being being a foursome that apparently were competing in the "World's Ugliest Swing" and "World's Worst Comedian" contests simultaneously. Although tempted to hit up on them (or actually over them), it became clear after a few holes that the group in front of them were also contestants in the same contests and the backup was several holes deep. As you can imagine, being forced to wait at nearly every tee box regardless of it was a par 3, 4 or 5, meant that despite trying to keep a reasonable distance, we heard these folks with their foul mouthed tirades 18 times that day - just wonderful.
So it sounds like all doom and gloom, but maybe a few bright spots:
The range has grass tees - yeah I know, after reading the comments above it must sound like I'm joking. I am not. A bit misleading if you hit the range before teeing off, because you will realize after a few holes that the most green grass you will see today was during warmup.
Staff/Restaurant - to be honest, we didn't really have the need to talk to any staff except during check-in and the restaurant looked quite legit. A nice setup that is very conducive for grab and go at the turn. Due to the pace of play, by the time we got to the turn, the grill was cleaning up and only drinks were available. Nothing like a little dehydration while you play the longest round of your life.
Anyways, if you've read this far, I hope you found this brutally honest review useful. For the price Shoreline charges, or actually at any cost, the course conditions and pace of play make it a horrible value. Save yourself and go play anywhere else.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 08/26/2017Awesome facility, but watch out
There is a cop hiding off to the side on the straight (Bailey Rd I believe) right before (or after, if you're leaving Chgc) the twisty mountain roads. Would hate for anyone to ruin their day before/after a round on this wonderful course by getting a ticket.
Course staff is very nice and helpful. Need more ball washers, the ones we did find were well maintained and had relatively clean water which is always a plus.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Tournament Course
Played On 08/19/2017Challenging course, great facilities.
everything was awesome except the ball washers, some of which were quite disgusting.
