Old South Golf Links
Played On 05/06/2021Low Country Fun
This was the third course in 3 days and found it to be the best. There are a couple of LONG forced carries, but the majority of the course was fair. Staff was very friendly. If I come back to SC, will try to play Old South again.
Old Oak Country Club
Played On 11/19/2020Great fall day
Got to play with my friend and another twosome. Beautiful day with 20-30 mph wind.
Course was in good shape for the time of year. They are some of the fastest greens for a daily fee course.
Food and beverages were limited, mostly due to the COVID restrictions being implemented the next day.
Would have no problem in playing this course next year. The senior rate makes this place a bargain.
The Ravines Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2020Kind of soft
Drove from Chicago to The Ravines to begin a mini-golf vacay with a buddy. Unsure if that part of Michigan got a lot more rain than Chicago received or if they just overwatered the course but the fairways were extremely wet. Was actually surprised they didn't restrict carts to the path on all holes. It is a beautiful course with fast greens.
Found out that the 14th hole provides two sets of white tees giving you the option of teeing off on either side of the ravine - would have been nice to know.
Plan to return, but under drier conditions.
Spyglass Hill™ Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2019Would return
Joined a threesome and had a wonderful experience. Everyone has seen photos of Pebble Beach, but Spyglass Hill is equally tough without being unfair. If you plan to ride (Cartpaths only) get a forecaddie to help with distances and reading greens. The pro shop and grill are each one story and very low-key. Played both Spyglass and Spanish Bay - would definitly return to play Spyglass.
Creek/Oaks at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort
Played On 07/27/2019Surprising Saturday
Thought I had only booked for 9 holes to insure I make a weddng later in the day. Turns out I was on for 18, but played only $ 54 - who am I to argue. Front 9 was Creekside 9; not extremely difficult and I was hitting it good. Back 9 was the Stonehouse; very hilly and tight fairways.
Overall above average for a resort facility.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 03/11/2016Good Resort Course
The Padre course is the easier of the two. Early morning round - paired with 3 others including one member. Of the 3 rounds I played this week, this was the most expensive - even with a discount. Well maintained, though rough was thin. Great morning round if you need to be somewhere else in afternoon.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 03/11/2016Nice way to end vacation.
Early round - played with a member. The course is in good shape, but the rough is a little bare. The bag staff and pro shop staff are all top notch. A little pricey but I got a discount in having played before. Other than Hole 5, I like the course. Close to my condo. May return.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2016We have a winner!!
Terrific staff. Course is challenging but doesn't beat you up. I did play with 3 regulars and they gave me some tips on where to play away from. There are a couple of long stretches from the green to the next tee, but one regular did walk it. The bar/restaurant is great. I plan to play this course again when I return to AZ.
Palm at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 03/08/201616 out of 18 good.
First round of the year. Fairways and greens are in good condition. But the rough is non-existent. No. 5 is a Par 5 which slants left to the water. Anything hit to the right center rolls left to the water. No. 15 is the signature par 4. Second shot over water hits the green runs over down the backslope - into the water. Really?
It was close to our condo and we made the Cubs game afterwards. The staff is good. But until they can grow some rough, I'd skip.
Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2015A nice change of pace
Windy day, but a pleasant fall Sunday. Course was in overall good condition, the fact that they aerated the fairways kept me from saying excellent. Greens hard to read but run faster than Cog Hill. Will play again.
Verde River Golf & Social Club
Played On 03/20/2015Great time.
It was about a 45 minute drive from we were staying (Old Town Scottsdale), and the place is under construction so some of the cart paths are under construction. And there is no permanent clubhouse. That said it is a wonderful golf course. Amazing views of the mountains. Well maintained and while challenging, isn't unfair.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2015Great overall experience
This is about mid-way between the 101 and Apache Junction. Would make a great early round and then a Cubs or A's game in March. Great course condition. Don't have a scenic mountain views, but you don't pay the green fees of one either. Will play again.
ASU Karsten Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2015Mixed feelings
The fairways and greens are still in great shape. But the rough hasn't received any water and the bunkers were rock hard. Rumor is the proposed conversion to student housing may be delayed due to funding. If that is the case, please maintain it because it is a great track. For golf trippers, it could be an excellent first or last course due to its proximity to the airport.
Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
Played On 03/21/2014A good time
This is not a destination course, but it is a fair test of golf. Quite a number of bunkers, and the greens were faster than I expected. The tees, fairways and greens were in great shape; areas of the rough and some cart paths need some maintenance. Staff was friendly; cart girl easy on the eyes.
In summary, for travelers this is the type of course to play first to help get your game back from a long winter, or the kind to include if you want to do 36 in a day.
Thanks for your 5 star review and we are glad to be on your list to play again when you return to the LowCountry.
