Links at Norman Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/13/2019Putt-putt and clueless staff
Arrived 40 min before tee time. Staff refused to give me a cart. 20 min in and they begrudgingly gave me one. The course was virtually empty, but they were worried about people playing before their tee time. Go figure.
Slightly confusing layout, but not a bad course. However, the greens are tiny and very hilly. Several pins were put in the middle of a slope. It became silly. Especially on 16, if you missed the putt, your ball rolled back off the green.
I won't be back to this course unless it was sub 20 bucks.
Atchison Golf Club at Bellevue
Played On 06/21/2016A nicer goat track.
The course really isn't bad, but it isn't good either. They are losing some fairways and teeboxes and overwater the greens so they are really soft (and slow).
The layout of the course isn't bad, but having never played it before, it is pretty difficult to figure out 1) how to get to some of the holes 2) where to place your tee shot. On several holes I hit good shots only to find the hole layout chart was wrong and the hole has a really sharp dogleg. The back nine seems a bit better than the front in that regard.
The course reminds me of Duffy Martin builds in Oklahoma. He was known for his "average man" golf courses without bunkers.
It's a good value for 10-15 bucks, but I wouldn't pay more than that.
WinterStone Golf Course
Played On 09/06/2015Not a flat hole to be found.
Overall impressions: Pretty course, great shape (aside from the greens getting torn up by inconsiderate players). Every hole is fun and fair, but there really isn't that signature hole. After playing my round, I had a hard time recalling each hole as they kind of all blend together.
Course was in great shape, greens ran quick. Some of the hole locations were silly - placed on hills and such.
Pace of play was really good for the most part. I used GolfNow and was supposed to play with a 2some and another single. The starter let the twosome play early, so they ended up joining a twosome in front, leaving me and the other guy. Not a huge deal, but we ended up waiting on a number of holes. Still, for a Sunday afternoon we played 18 in under 4 hours.
If you are playing the course for the first time, I'd recommend playing with someone that knows the course. Because of all the elevation changes and overall layout, it isn't the easiest course if it's your first time.
