Hickory Knob Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2023Greens are fine
Wanted to let folks know that the greens are fine, and the course overall is in great condition. I was hesitant to play it, but my buddy and I wanted an early tee time to beat the heat, and they had an 8am. I was convinced we would have some issues with the greens, but there were no issues. The greens were great. #18 looked a little drier than the rest, but other than that, it was fine. We were pleased with our decision to play the course.

Played On 07/16/2020Excellent as usual.
It had been awhile since my friend and I played Pine Ridge. It's always been a favorite of ours. As usual, the course was in great shape from tee to green. The greens, in particular, were flawless. At check-in, we requested separate carts since we don't live in the same household and needed to practice social distancing,. We expected to pay for the second cart, but were told there was no charge. What a pleasant surprise. How we are treated is just as important as playing this beautiful course. Thank you!

Played On 06/13/2019Good Course Conditions
Course is in great condition from tee to green. Tee boxes had been punched but had no negative impact on teeing off. Fairways were thick and lush. I would rate the greens 8.5/10.

Recently, after passing the course to go play another course in the area, I decided to stop by and inspect the three greens near the entrance. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were in excellent shape.
I had stayed away from this course since this past spring after experiencing it in the worst condition I had ever seen it in the five years I've been playing it. The fairways were thin and the greens were diseased looking and bare.
After inspecting the three greens recently, I decided to play it, and I have to say that the course has almost fully recovered from what I thought was the beginning of a downward spiral. All the greens are great again and the fairways are more dense. I recommend playing it again.

Just go play it. First greeted by friendly pro shop attendant. Course is in great shape from tee to green. Greens are near perfect, although a little slow for my taste. Fairways are lush. Bunkers still had water in them from recent rains but otherwise in great shape. Played in the morning and pretty much had the course to ourselves. Maintenance activities were going on throughout round (respectfully) to keep the course looking great. Keep up the great work!

Played On 07/21/2018Beware! Poor Course Conditions and Defensive Owner/Mgr - Bad Combination!
Have played this course 3 to 4 times per year over the last 4 to 5 years and have seen it in bad shape before and felt ripped off after playing it. But because I like the layout, I would just stay away for awhile and then play it again later. Sometimes the conditions were improved, but many times they weren't and I never made a complaint about it. This time, I attempted to play the first hole (started on 10) and just gave up because of how bad the tee box, fairway, and green was. It was the worst I've seen it. Based on my previous experience with continuing to play the course and being totally disappointed, I decided to stop right there and return to the clubhouse to request a refund. As I approached the outside of the clubhouse I saw the owner/mgr whom I had met 5 years ago when we played in a golf tournament together. He was always friendly and engaging when I would see him riding the course with his wife and dog. This time was a little different. We exchanged pleasantries, but when I inquired about the condition of the course, his response to me was unexpected. He asked me how much I paid, equated what I paid as only covering the cart fee (to which I mentioned I was there to play golf not drive the cart) and mentioned how expensive it is to maintain the course, etc, etc, etc. He then said "go get your money back, and don't come back" in a very nonchalant manner. So, I got my refund and will definitely not be coming back. I will also share this experience with anyone I know who is considering playing there to discourage them. He has lost perspective, as his view is no longer consumer-centric, it's only personal now. He didn't think about the times when I paid his asking price for sub-standard conditions. I suspect a change of ownership or a partnership is coming in the near future.
Hickory Knob Golf Course
Played On 07/10/2018Great Shape, Slow Greens
Had 11am tee time and course wasn't very busy. Fairways were almost flawless. Greens were in great shape overall but very slow. A couple of them had some thin areas on them but nothing really bad. As we played, the greenskeepers were lightly sanding and verti-cutting the greens, however there was no negative effect on the greens. They were rolling just as smooth and true as the ones that hadn't been done yet. Bunkers were okay but could use a little TLC. Overall, this course should be immaculate in short order.

Played On 05/14/2018Greens Still Recovering From Aeration
Greens are playable but still have sand (light) and holes from aeration. Should be fully recovered in a couple of weeks. Fairways are beginning to green up but are still somewhat thin. Bunkers were fine. The lake level was at full pool +, so it was very scenic. Overall, still enjoyed the course, but it should be in great shape in a couple of weeks.

Played On 04/16/2016Well Conditioned Short Course
Course was in great shape as usual. Greens were smooth and fast, and fairways were good. The course was crowded, so pace of play was slower than normal. It's not a long course so you can usually play it in 3 hrs or so. This round took over 4 hours.
Mount Vintage Golf Club - Chester Course
Played On 05/13/2015Nice course, but...
This is a first class facility with a great practice area, restaurant, and club house. Has 3 nine hole courses. We played Vintage and Chester. The greens were aerated and sanded the previous week and had not fully recovered, and thus were very slow and bumpy in places. Once they heal, they should be very nice. Fairways were still a little thin and some were weed infested. Bunkers were full of sand, but somewhat compacted. I like the layout of the course, the elevation changes and scenic holes with the water features. Will be coming back in a month or so to see it with normal greens and hopefully less weedy fairways.

Played On 10/08/2014Outstanding course and Pro Shop Staff
Course is in great shape. With the exception of a few holes, the course is pretty open. Fairways were mowed tight and greens were a moderate speed. Never got into any bunkers so I don't remember there being more or less than normal. There are a couple of holes where a large tree will block your approach to the green if you don't leave your approach shot on the correct side of the fairway. Great experience overall from the Pro shop and tee to green. Will be back!

Played On 05/28/2013Overall, a great, well conditioned, course with driving range, putting, chipping, and bunker practice areas.
Course has an open and interesting layout with strategically placed bunkers. Water only comes into play on a couple of holes. Keep it in the fairway and you should score well. The greens are well conditioned and fast, so keep the ball short of the hole and let it roll out. Fairways are well conditioned, but kind of tight. Bunkers are well conditioned and have plenty of sand in them.

Played On 2/15/2013Interesting course layout with good mix of challenging and scoring holes. Course is in great shape for winter conditions.
I like this course. The course is in excellent condition with smooth and fast greens, well conditioned fairways, and great tee boxes. The bunkers were in great shape as well. The problem I have with the course is it's just too slow. My threesome teed off at 12 noon and finished at 4:50pm. My group and the group in front of us had to wait to tee off on many holes throughout the course. If not for the waiting, we may have finished 45 minutes earlier.

Played On 11/01/2012Interesting layout and use of limited land. Course and carts well maintained.
For a public course, it was in great shape. Greens were in pristine condition and fast (Bermuda). Some fairways were just okay (a little hard and not much contrast from rough). Overall, a good experience.
