Cooks Creek Golf Club
Played On 09/24/2015Terrific course, but...
Played the course for the first time in more than 15 years. I like it. Each hole is unique, which is good. Conditions of the fairways and greens were good, too, though a few greens (and the practice green) were marred by long dead strips. Wish they would put out some drinking water. No food cart. No water. Take your own.
Darby Creek Golf Course
Played On 09/20/2015Liked it a lot
Played only the front 9, which is the links-style 9. Every hole is different, which is good, and the course was in very good condition. Greens were consistent. The staff was outstanding! Greeted warmly in the pro shop, the starter was very friendly as was the woman who sold me a hot dog. My only complaint is that I had a hard time finding the course. Could use a few more road signs. But...if you find it and play it you will like it.
Willow Run Golf Course
Played On 09/06/2015Had hoped to play 18 holes...
A slow-playing 4-some (2 men, 2 women) held up at least 5 groups. Totally clueless! (I realize it was a Sunday afternoon, but really?) Waited 5-10 minutes for every shot. Took just under 3 hours in 90-degree heat to play 9 holes. No ranger to move groups along. No drinking water provided - better take your own.
The holes are varied and interesting and the course is in reasonable condition. Each par 3 is a different length (good). Hole 2 is nicely designed. There's a big tree in the middle of the 6th fairway, which is a bit odd, but forces you to make a decision.
Had hoped to play 18 holes, but 5-6 hours in 90-degree heat due to very slow play cut my outing in half. I might go back.
The Foxfire at Foxfire Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2015Better than I thought it would be
Played their Player's Club course earlier in the year and figured the older Foxfire would be a "lesser" course. I was wrong. I liked it better. It's longer, more challenging, and has more old-course charm (tree-lined holes, elevation changes). If I had to choose between the 2 courses, I'd choose Foxfire (but Players is fun to play, too).
Awesome! Thank you for your review on Darby Creek Golf Course, we're glad you were able to find and play the course and loved the experience. We look forward to your return visit!
