Clover Valley Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2022If you want to walk it's total ripoff
No where does it say the price is the same if you walk or ride. $55 bucks to walk the course....I don't think so. Wasted 30 minutes driving out here for nothing. Don't make the same mistake I did if you like to walk your round. I won't be back until they get real.
Champions Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2020Really good course, showing some wear on the tee boxes
The course was recently reopened and was very busy the day I played. I knew it would be slow sandwiched between 2 foursomes (I was playing solo) and it was. At the turn I ended up behind a slow 3 some that didn't invite me to join, or play through, even though it was appropriate. The ranger came by and didn't help out either so I ended up stuck behind them until I just played through uninvited.. I was surprised the ranger wasn't more assertive. At any rate, the course is an excellent challenge and the only condition complaint was that the tee boxes are really in bad shape as no sand seems to be available to fill divots....probably a COVID thing.
Majestic Springs Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2020Hidden Jewel, Greens need a Little work
I stumbled across this course while driving from Cincy to Columbus, I was able to walk on mid afternoon, midweek and get right out. I was sandwiched between 2 foursomes so I expected to wait but I honestly only waited on maybe 1 hole, despite the course being fairly busy.
The course has a great layout and it is in decent shape except for several of the greens that had some kind of damage. I worked my way around the course in exactly 4 hours. I recommend the course despite the greens damage.
Champions Golf Course
Played On 07/02/2020Welcome Back
The course is finally open after a new clubhouse was built. The building wasn't open the day I was there (still using the old facility) but I can tell it will be a very nice clubhouse. No Food and Beverage at all due to CV-19, I wish there was a way that all courses could put some water out somewhere for those of us who keep forgetting to bring water to the course. Otherwise, I love the layout of Champions and am glad it's open again. Best Muni layout in Columbus.
The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2020Met Expectations
I booked this course as it popped up on the top 10 best public Ohio courses. My playing partner said I would enjoy it and he was right. Great layout with some really cool elevation changes. Nice variety of tee boxes to accommodate skill levels. Good food and beverage and staff very friendly. My only complaint was the inconsistent bunker and green conditions.
Thank you for sharing your 5-star experience. We look forward to seeing you again at the course soon! Thanks for choosing The Quarry Golf Club.
Metro Gold at Blacklick Woods Golf Courses
Played On 06/10/2020Quick and easy
The course is one of my favorites because it doesn't have an afternoon league every day like most of the other muni courses in the Columbus area. It also has a nice range for warm up.
The course was fine, a little dry but irrigated in the right places. There was zero water on the course for the players (due to Covid) and a warning would have been nice when I teed off as it was a very hot day. I was parched by the time I made the turn but then stocked up.
Otherwise, the staff were really nice and the course is a nice value for the money.
Eagle Springs Golf Course
Played On 06/01/2020Dirt Cheap for a Reason
This was my first time playing the course. I was looking for a reasonably priced course for this area (resort area pricing at most other courses) that allowed walking.
The parking lot was deserted and no one answered the phone (only 1 person was working on a sunday afternoon and he was parking golf carts) but the door to the pro shop was unlocked. So the course was open. I paid $13 dollars to walk 18 and went right out.
The course is basically in total disrepair as it appears they are rebuilding it with various tee boxes being built and lots of work along the fairways. But they are not watering at all. All the fairways and greens were dried out and in bad shape. The good news is the grass was short enough (because it's not being watered) to make it playable. All that being said, I didn't see any construction equipment anywhere on the course so maybe the project is on hold...idk.
At any rate, I liked the layout and if they ever get watering restarted and finish construction it would be a nice course to play. But for now, if you are willing to put up with rock hard conditions and basic amenities, give it a try. Can't argue with $13 bucks to walk 18 on a Sunday afternoon.
South at Mill Creek Park Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2019Too much Ground Under Repair
I know the weather has been less than optimal in NE Ohio but each and every hole at this course had significant areas of Ground Under Repair.
The check in staff were rude as well. Not sure why
Phoenix Golf Links
Played On 9/9/2013Good condition, great value, a little slow
Phoenix is in pretty good condition for late Summer. They were aggressively watering during my entire round and while this was a little distracting the course conditions were ok because of it.
The only real downer was the pace of play. The course was actually fairly wide open but we got stuck behind a very slow handicapped group. The ranger came by a couple of times, saw us waiting (I was even sitting down on the grass) and did nothing to help us play through or hurry up the group. Maybe because they were handicapped? Either way, something should have been done and it took a 4 hour round and made it into a 4:45 round.
Virtues Golf Club
Played On 8/27/2013Lives up to the hype
I had read about this course and it was on my list of things to do this Summer. Totally worth it! Amazing layout, great conditions and not too overpriced (some really great courses get carried away regarding price).
The only thing I would do differently is get there about an hour earlier to take advantage of the wonderful practice range and get good and warmed up as the first hole is a pretty hard start.
Bradford Highlands Golf Club
Played On 8/13/2013Good find north of Toronto
Great course about 30 mins north of Toronto. I played there yesterday while visiting for work and really enjoyed the course. Good club rental price $20 and affordable rate for mid-afternoon. Course is pretty challenging with some twisty par 4's and uphill par 5's. According to the locals I was paired with, the course was in better shape and less expensive than most of the over-priced courses in Toronto proper.
Windswept Dunes Golf Course
Played On 6/19/2013Excellent value for the course condition in this area
Worth the drive up from the beach considering how good the course condition was. From the reviews I read earlier in the year I was a little concerned the course would be in rough condition but it was fine. The driving range was tore up, don't know what the story is there, otherwise a really good facility in this part of Florida populated with too many overpriced courses. I also liked the fact it didn't have too much water. Most Florida courses are too dependent on water hazards to make it challenging but instead, this course is challenging by being super-long with huge greens. The good news is there are 5 different tees to match your skill level.
