del Lago Golf Club
Played On 11/01/2023It is gettting better each week
I play del Lago weekly and run the del Lago Men's League for Events so I see the course of time. For those who have not played del Lago it is a truely Championship layout - one of the best in Tucson, but over the years the course condition, traps, greens, desert area have had varying degrees of conditions. Generally the traps have not been maintained well and are very inconsistent. Greens go from great to slow as molasses. All that being said, in my seven years at del Lago this is the best overseed season I have seen. Lots of grass on greens and fairways. the problem is speed. Superintendent just did not want to cut the greens down. He has now and will continue each week unti they are running around 10 to 10.5 on stemp. Yesterday the course was really good with fairways cut down(not totall down but much better) and greens were running very nice and smooth. They continue to add sand to traps and are doing a better job with maintaining. We all have to rack again as we got away from that during Covid. Overall the course is really looking good and in two or so weeks it will be a great test. Layout when greens get fast and fairways are cut down is a true challenge. Well worth the trip to play a great layout.

I have played 100+ rounds on this course and it is actually really starting to improve. The course layout is probably the best in Tucson but that condition has had some challenges. It definitely is improving and the greens are probably the best they’ve ever been in the last three years. Still a little slow, but lots of grass and you can. Judge the speed after a little bit of practice. Cost is phenomenal and you should definitely give it a chance for the money. You won’t be sorry.

This is a great layout and course designed by Gary Penz out of Chicago. The layout is great and very challenging. One that you can play many times and never get board playing. Unlike other desert courses this one has elevation changes and your shot down between desert hills. Green are great Bermuda and very challenges. Speed probably around 10 when we played. Traps need work but I think all traps on all courses need help. Just a great course for the money and speed of play was excellent at 4:10. One of the best layouts and courses in Tucson. Definitely worth the trip to Vail.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 04/21/2021For what we paid total rip-off
I was invited to play Dove Mt with some friends who came in from Chicago to play a tournament course in Tucson. I have play Dove at least 8 times in the last two years and the Nicklaus layout is definitely challenging but with Bent greens it is fun to play for single digit handicap players.
Got to the course and there was only 1 person checking in bags. The balls on the range were included and the range is nice and the putting green is good as well. Now the problem starts. Cost to play was $170. I can tell you totally ridiculous for Tucson in terms of cost to play. There are great course at the same time of year for 1/2 that cost. The course was absolutely unplayable. We are talking about 4 handicap players and there was absolutely no way to hold the ball on the greens. They were concrete as well as the fairways. These greens are severely undulating and not being able to hold the greens made the round impossible. Hit the ball well and shot a 91. Highest round in 15 years. Then the amenities - NONE. No half way house with anything in it, No restaurant or bar for a beer afterwards. Forget COVID just nothing for the money. Played in Scottsdale and all amenities were there for each golf course we played and NONE here. This was just a total waste of a lot of money. Ritz must be getting ready to dump the course if they let it get like this during prime season. Now the rates are more like they should be at $55. Shame on me but do not make the same mistake. JB

This course continues to improve and get better as spring approaches. The greens were running at around 11 and very quick. I would highly recommend this to anyone coming out and wanting to play a great golf course designed by Pat Nguyent design who design Kemper Lakes in Chicago. The price Is great for this time of year. Well worth it and you will not be disappointed.

Played On 10/21/2017New Del Lago Golf Course, Vail, AZ
Have played this course many times over the past year. Great Track but condition was suspect and greens we bad in late summer. Owner came in and closed course for 5 weeks, over-seeded, new Superintendent, new Golf Operations manager, and the course reopened on the 21st. What a difference. The condition was wonderful and within two weeks will be outstanding. Cart Paths redone, trim work done, range over-seeded in hitting area, just a great course. The track is one of the best in in Southern AZ with a lot of elevation changes and shooting down the canyons on either side. Tough course but many tees. Unless you are a single digit play it from the Silver tees. Gold and Black only for scratch of low single digits. Really worth the trim and money to play this course now.

Played On 02/12/2017Challenging layout
I have all the courses in Tucson and decided to finally move here. I wanted a course that would challenge me and that was a desert course. We decided on Del Lago. This course will challenge you. Absolutely a great layout design by Nugent golf which should tell you something. The condition is very good and greens had issues early in the overseeding season but now have filled in very nicely. If you are here for vacation or golf with the guys you should make the trip out to Del Lago. Cost versus golf is probably the best in Tucson and take that from a guy that has played them all. Bring your A game and enjoy the scenery which is wonderful.
Cantigny Golf - Lakeside/Hillside
Played On 08/29/2015Best of the Best
Cantigny is Best of the Best. The experience is as close to a private golf club experience as you can get. Caddies available that are really good, or carts or walk. Condition of course is always great. Staff is wonderful and facility is very nice - maybe not great but very nice. Food is perfect for after golf food. Highly recommend if you are looking for a really great golf course that challenges you and is really fun to play.
Awesome! We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing del Lago Golf Club.
