Kudos to the owner for trying to restore this fine Mike Strantz design. The fairways and bunkers are in good shape but the greens are still extremely thin and inconsistent. Hopefully they will be back after one more growing season. They really need to be rebuilt but hopefully seeding and fertilizing will get them back next year. They will not recover in 2020.
The tee boxes were in good but not great shape. Some were so hard that it was difficult to get a tee in the ground.
The course is difficult with many blind shots but is fair. You will get unique shots that make the round particularly enjoyable if you like a good challenge.
With all this said, however, I would encourage play. You will be challenged by the unique layout and it is physically beautiful. The owner can use the income to complete improvements to the course. It is a couple of years away from complete restoration, but it is enjoyable and challenging to play now. It is a true Mike Strantz course. Can't wait for continued improvements to the greens.

The maintenance on this Arnold Palmer Signature Course is outstanding. Fairways and greens are bentgrass and staff works hard to keep them in shape year round. This is not an easy task in the local hot and humid summers. Spring and Fall are the best times on this course, but if you can survive Richmond summers, the course is in good shape to greet you. Richmond winters allow for quite a bit of play. The holes are challenging but fair.

This Arnold Palmer course is maintained in pristine condition. Like all Palmer courses it is designed with the golfer in mind. Wide fairways are made challenging by strategic bunkers. Greens are challenging but fair. Highly recommend this course.

I played RNK last month and enjoyed it greatly. It is a beautiful and challenging course. I played again today and again had a great experience. I can’t recommend this course more highly. If you are looking for a bland, easy course go elsewhere. If you enjoy the beauty of a well designed and superbly maintained course that presents a fair golfing challenge then this is your course. In addition, it is a GREAT value.
