Salmon Falls Golf Club
Played On 06/16/2020i would go back
nice, short rustic new england course. greens are small but roll nicely. a fun walk.
Oak Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2019good value, friendly people
i should play here more often than I do. the people are nice, the layout is fair (they could use a set of tees in between white and blue, closer to 6000 (you have to choose between 5765 and 6400. Otherwise, the place is friendly and the greens were good.
Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2018could become a favorite
It had been 13 years since I last played here, on my first trip through Pinehurst. I had fond memories of the course, got a Hot Deal, and enjoyed the day. I hadn't played since August, so the generous fairways were welcome. The greens are small and undulating. lots of elevation change, plenty of elevated greens. I enjoy Donald Ross courses and this fit the bill.
Fox Hopyard Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2017had been in years
hadn't played here in years, had left the last time focused on the "gimmicks" (seriously downhill par 3, a sense of lots of carries off the tee). This time, I didn't notice them. Enjoyed the round, got around as a single in about 3.5 hours. Enjoyed the layout, even the holes I had complained about. nice views, in good condition. will come back sooner than later.
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Played On 04/11/2017greens were bumpy
I always enjoy Wintonbury, even if my game is struggling. The greens hadn't recovered from winter, they were still bumpy, with aeration holes still a problem. Still, it's a solid track
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2017nice track, greens were good
played here for the first time in 10+ years (they had 27 holes the last time I played here). nice collection of holes, fair, greens rolled nicely. sub 4 hour round. holes are tight in spots and lots of collection areas around greens (from which you can putt).
Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 03/20/2017a fair and enjoyable course
I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Dolphin Head. I have been coming to HHI for 20 years but had never played there. The layout is fair, not many forced carries. The water is there only on mishit shots.. I played alone, with a group of four in front that moved right along, until the back nine, when a group in front of them slowed us down. Still, under 4 hours on a beautiful spring day. Greens rolled nicely with some real slope to them.Well worth a visit. nice wildlife, too.
Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 03/17/2017greens were quick and "hilly"
solid layout. pace of play was good, as was the overall experience. course has trees down, but they are not in play and frankly I don't understand the criticism in some other reviews. good mix of holes, made more difficult by the contours (pin placements) of the greens. good value with a hot deal.
Wahconah Country Club
Played On 09/17/2016one of my favorites
it's about an hour and half trip, but I take the back roads and this time of year the vistas are great. I rode (because of the deal), but the course is not a hard walk. The holes are near each other (I'm not sure I understand how one could get lost), the layout is fair and the greens have a lot of slope. If this course was closer I would consider membership.
Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
Played On 07/12/2016great day with a buddy
My buddy played this course with his dad and uncle 40 years ago, so it's always a nostalgia trip when we go. Course is in great shape, greens were a bit slow (it was a Tuesday and it was hot with a heat wave coming, no need for the course to cut them) but they rolled nicely. Slow first nine, groups in front were in a league, back nine flew around. The course has some challenging holes but is very fair. we'll go back.
North Conway Country Club
Played On 06/30/2016course was great, I was not
used a Hot Deal Reward to lower the cost, and pay for part of my brother-in-law. Gorgeous day, setting is quite picturesque. holes are close together with "old", thick turf. not much rough, lots of trees (big trees). Greens were fine. Play slowed on the back when a group suddenly appeared in front of us (they were probably members, so can't really complain). would go again, with the same deal.
Windham Golf Course
Played On 08/06/2015good value
arrived a little early, paired with a couple of others, cart guy sent us off the back nine- turned out to be a blessing. Played the back nine in less than 2 hours, played the front as a single in just over an hour. Course is under construction in a few places ( the 17th is now a par 5, although no one mentioned that before we played, the new green is out of sight, around a corner), but the greens were fine. Lots of trees, the routing is a bit confusing, but there are signs. The value was good, an enjoyable afternoon. Will be interesting to see how it develops.
Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 03/12/2015terrific value
got a hot deal. private course, not much traffic, played under 4 hours(with 2 others). nice track. fair, lots of doglegs, greens rolled well. unlimited warmup balls for $6. plenty of sand, but bunkers in good shape. lots of trees, but room to hit away. water, but not too much. will definitely go back. it was windy, which added to the challenge, but it was a great day out. no cash, but food is available. partners recommended the chicken salad.
Cold Spring Country Club
Played On 09/07/2014enjoyed first round, i'll come back
beautiful Sunday afternoon in September. arrived early, nice driving range, wild turkeys for spectators. got off early, front nine is hilly in spots, need a cart. holes were fair and varied, lots of elevation change. 5 par 5s, 6 par 3s, interesting layout. i'll come back.
Shennecossett Golf Club
Played On 08/18/2014great day out at the shore
Took a friend who had lived all of his life in CT. but had never played there before. He was thrilled. The course was in good shape; challenging but fair greens, nice layout (no funk, quirky holes), open enough to hit away, with bunkers to make you think about your shots. And afterwards you can go find a nice place on the shore to eat. Already making plans to return.
The Country Club of Greenfield
Played On 06/27/2014greens rolled nicely
arrived to find 'we don't have tee times on weekdays". I had to pair myself with others on the first tee 9potentially awkward). Course is a nice, old New England layout. Small greens, hard to hold, but if you hit the green you have a chance to make a good score. A couple of holes had issues (9th fairway looked like the aftermath of a flood), but there is room to hit away. Enjoyed the walk.
Mount Washington at Mount Washington Hotel & Resort
Played On 06/21/2014beautiful setting, great day out
Arrived early, had lunch (huge sandwich, took half with me for later on the course), hit balls, got out half hour early, on my own. On a Saturday afternoon! A few of the greens had some damage, but the course is a solid Donald Ross design. The setting is spectacular. At the base of Mt. Washington, the old hotel is always in the background (lots of picture opps). The round took less than 3 1/2 hours. Played great, had a blast. The value was outstanding; thank you, GolfNow. I'll be back, maybe mix in a ride to the top on the cog railway.
Westover Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2014great weather, great value
I arrived as a single and was paired with an adult and two eight graders, one of whom had barely played before. I'm a high school teacher so it didn't bother me, and they played their own scramble after tee shot. They were never an issue. The pace was OK, a little slow on the back. The course is long from the whites, 6600+, and there are plenty of trees lining the holes. But it's relatively open and you won't lose many balls. Greens were fine, a little slow, but they have some break. At $26 on a Sunday morning, you can't complain. You also get huge C-130s(?) practicing their landings. They come in right over the 11th hole, you could almost hit them with your wedge. A great value. Easy walk.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 05/25/2014great day, and played well, too
Arrived early for a Sunday afternoon round. was a little disappointed to find out that practice balls now cost extra, but the tee was open and the woman let me out early on my own. The pace was fine, I had time to roll a few extra putts, and actually line some up. The course was wet in a few spots and the greens suffer from people who don't fix their ball marks. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will definitely go back. The course is fair, if you keep it in the fairway. Some of the greens are big so the GPS in the cart is helpful as it gives you exact yardage to the pin. Some of the pins were awfully tight to the edges. No matter, the weather was great.
Mill Valley Country Club
Played On 6/17/2013low key, nice greens
The greens were quite good for the rate charged. They roll nicely and have some slope (although the 15th, I think, takes this to the extreme). Beautiful views, some interesting hole designs, quite fair. Low key, a little slow, but good value. Not an easy walk, especially between some tees. The greens are the strength of the course.
