Another Ross course that DOES NOT disappoint

CC of Salisbury is an incredibly fun layout, with classic Ross features. Water only comes into play on one hole. Most of the difficulty comes in avoiding lots of strategically placed bunkers and false fronts. The greens are well undulated, but not as severely as some Ross designs. Greens were rolling really well and showing no signs of stress, especially for bentgrass greens in the middle of summer. One cool feature about this course is that there is only about 200 yards difference between the black tees and blue tees, but most of the black tees are positioned at very different angles. Several holes play virtually the same yardage, but require completely different shots.

Very tight course, not very well kept

This course certainly puts a premium on accuracy and not distance. Most holes are so tight, the average amateur should hit an iron off the tee just avoid disaster. Frankly, there aren't many memorable holes on the entire course, just very tight fairways.

Course conditions are nothing to brag about either. Don't take a club you like into the bunker because they are mostly rock. Greens actually roll well, but the rest of the course is nothing to brag about.

We are sorry to see this review come in and learn your did not enjoy your round this time around. Fairways can be tight, but that can present an opportunity to explore other clubs in your bag. We will look into your concerns regarding course conditions.

Classic Donald Ross layout for a great price

This course is classic Donald Ross. Small, turtle back greens and the ability to walk off one green and right on to the next tee. An extremely fun layout with difficult holes, but not over punishing to the average amateur. Like most Ross designs, the challenge is around the green. Don't be afraid to putt from 15 yds off the green.

The course itself could use a little work. The greens roll great, but the fairways and rough are a little bare in a few spots. Combine the condition, layout, and price, I could play this course everyday.

Fun course, but not worth the price

If this were a course you could get around in under 4 hours for $40 it would get 4 stars. Unfortunately, the quality of the course and pace of play isn't worth the price. The course layout is fun. Several challenging holes mixed with good birdie opportunities. The greens roll ok, but the surrounding areas could really use some manicuring. The fairways are good, but the rough has plenty of bare spots.

The quality of course conditions just isn't worth the $70-$90 midweek price tag.

First class experience, but bring plenty of balls

Like any resort with that price tag, especially a Trump property, the experience is nothing short of first class. The golf course, however, is not for the faint of heart. The caddies do a phenomenal job of coaching you through the round, but this course is just brutal. Bunkers and water are in play on every hole, and even a good shot can end up in the water sometimes.

Overall, its a great experience. There are other courses that are more enjoyable for a lower price and equal conditions, but playing Doral is a truly first class experience.

The perfect balance of fun and diffuculty

Old South is as fun of a course as I have ever played. Not too long, but not ridiculously short. Lots of fun holes for the average golfer, but still some challenging holes that test every part of your game. Several holes have "island fairway" layouts that require carry over marsh off the tee, and then once again to reach the green. The greens are small by today's standards. The course in general puts an emphasis on target golf.

The course condition was fine when I played. According to some locals, conditions were exceptionally dry compared to normal so conditions are typically even better. If I lived in this area I would play Old South every week.

Not a bad track

Course was in great shape for winter. Greens were fast and smooth. Pace of play was slow, but it was a beautiful day so everyone was out playing. Will definitely return.

Not the old days anymore

The days of Sammy Davis Jr and the Rat Pack holding court at LVN are no more. The course resembles nothing of a course that used to host a PGA Tour event. Pace of play was very slow, and greens were bumpy and hard. This place definitely feels like old Vegas, but all the luster has worn off. The history of the course is cool, but that's about it.
