Sterling Hills Golf Course is making a comeback and conditions are improving after years of neglect by previous owners. I play this course weekly and it continues to be one of my favorite courses in Ventura County (and there are many to choose from).
The course is getting regular water and new seed is growing in the bare areas of the fairways. Greens have always been in good shape but getting better. I have played this course for over 10 years and have seen the ups and downs of course conditions and customer service – but new ownership is working hard to change that. Lee Harlow is the Director of Golf and a Ventura County local, and his attention to conditions and customer service will make this a top rated golf course. I anticipate that course conditions will be perfect in about 6 months, but it is still a great course, value and location right now.
Don’t be misled by reviews from hack golfers that play 4 times a year, shoot 100+, and complain about their lie when they top it off the tee about 50 yards. Our group of local golfers (mostly single digit handicappers) choose to play here weekly because the course is challenging but fair, and the value and customer service is great. As I said, conditions are improving as the new grass is growing, and it will only get better. There are several tee boxes to choose from, and you can decide how you want to be challenged. That gives you a lot of options to play different shots off the tees and into the greens.
For the layout, location, green fees and customer service – you can’t find a better value!
