Vail Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2022Course under repair, and slow play
There are several greens under replacement with temporary greens and one hole closed. The pace of play was slow and the course Marshall’s could not increase the slow groups pace. Since on time overall, although back nine was 25 min longer than par!, he felt he was not able to do anything. Always two groups waiting to tee off from 11 til the end. The rough was VERY deep and especially around greens. Looks like it hasn’t been mowed in days. Greens were slow but expected at this time of year. Layout on front nine is a bit boring but course is fun.
Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 03/03/2022Ok but would generally go elsewhere
We played this course several years ago and remembered it as a pretty nice course - not top level in the area. The bag drop was not manned and I went up to get a cart to bring down to bag drop and the starter finally agreed. The pace of play was moving well then really slowed in the back nine. Must have been some slow groups 2 or 3 groups ahead. For most holes we sat on the tee watching the group ahead tee off. Never saw a Marshall to hustle things along. Greens were ok and fairways generally ok as well. Bunkers not groomed or maintained.

Played On 07/29/2015Very nice course
The course is very nice, but a bit pricey, but given the short golf season, that has to be the case. Played in the mid afternoon and the last 3-4 holes in the shade of the mountain actually was getting cool (6:30-7:30) despite being warm in the sun. The course was in good condition - I"ve seen it better as well as worse.
I always enjoy playing EVGC.
Falcon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2015Not as nice as several years ago
This course was one of the few we enjoyed on our trips to Orlando area. We again looked forward to playing. We were a twosome and paired with a nice twosome and had a good time. The pace of play was snail's pace. Waited very shot. Did not see a marshall on the course to move play along. It was one of the hottest days and the on course water was inadequate. By 11:30, water jugs were empty and even the bathrooms did not have water. The cart server when told, said 'that's a problem'. Did not call the clubhouse to report or anything. Greens were in trouble with spotty growth (? nematodes) and the fairways had spotty grass. Will not be coming back anytime soon. For the money, not worth it even with a Golf Now discount.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 10/09/2014Conditions Not Great or Described
As I booked this tee time, there was not a mention of recent overseeding. Not only was the course cart paths only - not a major problem except slowing the pace of play a bit, but the fairways had not recently been cut and the greens were painfully slow and very bumpy. The fees for a condition such as this was extraordinary. While the views and vistas were beautiful, I had wanted to show this course to my wife where conditions were terrible.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
Played On 10/04/2014Fair course, but very slow play
This is one of two courses. One was closed due to overseeding and this one was in the prep phase with scratching of fairways. Greens were 'slow' compared to many bermuda greens. Waited essentially every shot. While we saw some marshals, it is was not apparent they did anything to keep up the pace of play.
Forest Hills Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2013Nice layout, needs some work
The course is an interesting layout with some fun holes The fairways and roughs were poorly maintained and many areas were bare. The greens were in nice shape and quite fast for their overall appearance. The course uses a numbered pin location but neither the scorecard nor our cart had a key to the location on them. Due to elevation of greens we could not tell if pin was front, middle or back. Staff was somewhat dismissive in pro shop. Did not ask if it was the first time playing or a repeat customer. As a new player, it would have been nice for orientation to the course (water, bathrooms, etc). OVerall not expensive and an interesting course.
Gypsum Creek Golf Course
Played On 5/29/2013Not the best in the area, but fun
This course is a fun course with some beautiful vistas. Some very interesting and tight holes. The fairways were variable - some in very good early season shape and some with very sparse grass. Grounds crews were working on the course so it is likely to be better. Greens had the same variability but were mostly better and more consistent. Will not the best course in the area for the money was fun and would play again on another trip to the region.
Beaver Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2013Good early season special
THis was a special for lunch/18 holes of golf. I found this a nice deal. We've been here in the summer where the general fees are more than $150. While early in the year, the course was in good shape. The fairways a bit spotty, recovering from winter, but greens and bunkers well maintained and in good shape. I found this a typical Trent Jones Course and fun to play. Vistas were beautiful.
Eagle Ranch Golf Club
Played On 5/26/2013Very nice course
I've played here every year for now 4 years. This is the best shape the course has been in. I personally find it a very challenging course due to winds and at times tight fairways. The greens were in excellent shape. As always the staff are super friendly. The pace of play could have been a bit faster, but with such a nice day, it was fine.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 2/8/2013Nice shorter course - not as pristine as many
This course was a nice respite to many other courses we played. Was shorter and had it's share of interesting holes. Fairways were sparse at times (grass). Greens were slower than many others in the area but in good condition. Nice respite from some of the longer and more challenging courses. The ladies enjoyed it.
Verde River Golf & Social Club
Played On 2/7/2013Out in the middle of nowhere but worth it.
This course is way east of Scottsdale - about a 30-40 min drive, but moves quickly. The course is in a proposed subdivision that was derailed with the housing crisis of Az. The course has 5 tees and a length to suit all. For the first time playing it there is some 'target' golf which makes it interesting. The greens were lightning fast compared to some others in the area. Very nice conditions.
Warning - there is not a clubhouse at the course. You check in at the entry to the subdivision but at the course there are a number of staff to help you, Bathrooms are mostly port a lets. Also, I'm not a fan of gas carts, but when you do not have a 'cart barn' to charge electric carts. Great value but worth the play.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 2/5/2013Nice course but value just ok
Interesting course - but holes very strange - from white tees there were many about 400 yds and others about 300. Made many par 5's of par 4's for average hitters and others were short. Greens were fast and mostly true.
There was not a person at the first tee to orient first time players. Also, the GPS was intermittently malfunctioning, but I had taken my Calloway UPro.
Even with a hot deal needs to be lower in price for me to return.
Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
Played On 2/4/2013Nice and interesting Arizona course
This is a very flat, but interesting course. It was in very good shape. It is long for women and there are 'orange crush' tees that are a bit too short and did not have a rating/slope to post for handicaps. An interesting factor is that there are real trees!!! Nice refreshing scenery from the 'desert'.
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 2/3/2013Fun times
While the weather was gray and a few drops here and there, it was a fun course to play with beautiful vistas. Some holes were very challenging and others not too bad. Overall the experience for men and women (we were two couples) was very nice.
