Take a little pride in cleaning up the course

I understand it was still winter in Connecticut when I played the course, so just to get out and play is sort of a bonus. It had also rained hard about 5 days before I played. However, there were literally over 10,000 pine cones out there and plenty of branches all over the place. Even if it is still too wet to send any large equipment out there, don't tell me you can't send 1 or 2 guys out there with a backpack blower and a rake and a utility cart to pick them up.

Indoor golf simulator. Great staff.

This facility is an indoor golf simulator place. There are 3 bays. We arrived a little early and they let us warm up by hitting balls at no extra charge. Then we chose a course (Kiawah) from their wide library of courses. The young lady who was working there set us all up and showed us how to use the simulator properly. She was the only one working at the time (I think) and she helped out all the groups, set people up in the simulators, served drinks, answered phones, and handled the payments. She was great. I thought the simulators were good on everything except the putting. Some of the putts rolled out way further than I thought they would, so be sure to set your gimme range at like 10 feet. Besides that I had a great time at a great value. Would recommend.

Solid course

The course was in very good shape for the terrible and rough year that we had weather wise in Connecticut. The greens were in excellent shape and some of the tee boxes were a little bit beat up, but you can see that they had just refilled them and reseeded them so they're definitely making an effort and those should be back within a few weeks. Found a great deal on golfnow.com. Pace of play was surprisingly slow for a Friday afternoon. 5 hours plus, didn't see one ranger and we finished in the dark and there was still 4 groups behind us who definitely didn't finish. I like this course because the fairways are fairly wide and then there's a little bit of room in the rough usually before you get in too much trouble so you can usually find your tee shots, and there is a good amount of bunkering around the green, and some of the greens are a little bit tough but none are unfair. It is a solid course I try to play there every year when I get a chance.

Absolutely terrible conditions right now.

I really like the layout of this course and I try to play there every year when I get a chance. Unfortunately the rough weather of the Northeast this year has really really made an impact on the conditions of this course. They had completely re-turfed a few of the aprons around the greens and you can see they were trying to make an effort there. However many of the greens had patches where it was not just burnt out, but it was actual dirt spots on the greens. There was a few temporary greens set up in front of the real greens where they were returfing the entire greens as well. I hate to be the guy who writes a terrible review about a course, but I also feel that fellow golfers should hear the truth. I would wait until next year before I play here again. They did give us a $25 off voucher for our next visit, so I have to give them credit for that.

Hello, DavidBava. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We have projects underway to recover the tee boxes, fairways, greens, and sandtraps. We hope you'll bear with us through this transition and give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing Fox Hopyard Golf Club.

Solid and fair course.

Played on 10/10. Rough was very high, but that happens sometimes on Mondays. They were trying to mow but it was wet from heavy Sunday rain. Cart part only was tough, made searching for balls and bringing clubs difficult. I liked the layout, it was fair if you hit it straight, and a lot of green side bunkers. Bunkers were packed hard from the rain too. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Decent value for the $31 we paid

Course had a pretty nice layout, where you could usually bail out to one side or the other. The pace of play was pretty good for a weekend. The only issue was the greens which looked like most of the courses did this spring, somewhat spotty and lumpy.

Tough for first timers

The front nine on this course is very difficult because there are so many blind shots with hazards on both sides where you can't see where you're supposed to hit the ball and you can't see where your ball ends up. The back 9 is much more enjoyable. Conditions were pretty good. A few too many rocks in the bunkers though.
