The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes

Nice course with good layout and challenging holes. For some reason every green has crowned holes which makes holes more challenging than they.need to be. I find this adds 5 to 8 strokes to my score at this course compared to similar courses where the greens keeping staff knows how to finish off a hole properly.

This is a fun, challenging course. Biggest negative is the crowning of the holes. It is impossible to lag putt. The ball is pushed to the side before it gets to the hole. If you put faster, it flies over. It is easy to lose 5 strokes on a round of 18.

Pretty good course except for consistently crowning of every hole. It makes putting more difficult than it should be. Not sure why this issue has continued. Great if you want to inflate your handicap, but frustrating if you lag put and watch ball veer consistently away from whole at last second. If you hit put harder to stay online it hits pin and goes off to either side or over the hole if pin is out. PGA pros would never accept this condition.

This course is interesting to play with mostly wide fairways and holes with challenges. The holes are spread nicely so that you do not have holes right next to each other. There are two problem areas. The sand bunkers need sand. When you land in a bunker you are forced to try and scoop the ball out as the sand is not deep enough to allow a true sand shot. Another problem is that every hole is crowned on the putting greens. It is almost impossible to lag the ball in without it being pushed to the side or stopped by the crown around the hole caused by not creating the new hole properly by course personnel. If you hit the ball firmer, the crowning will elevate the ball over the hole. I do not think course personnel are spending any time leveling the hole area. There is equipment available at golf course supply companies for less than $30 that would solve this problem.
