Quail Dunes Golf Course

Played On 12/15/2023Winter Golf
Privileged to play golf in NoCo on 12/15! Course is cart path only until April. Staff is always friendly; had a few laughs with starter PJ before teeing off. Course in good shape overall but greens are abused with ball marks! The greens on second nine were horrible with 50 or more unrepaired marks in each green. No excuses for golfers not repairing them! Marshall Mr. Allen was very nice and passed by frequently to check on everyone. Nice day of play.

Quail Dunes Golf Course
Played On 04/01/2023Good Roll
Course was very dry although there were still small spots of snow in the shady areas. Greens were quite hard so no ball marks were made. Fairways were very firm so ball roll out was outstanding. Basically, Quail Dunes is still in winter mode, with no irrigation yet. All that said, the course is still very fun to play. It is a more relaxed environment there with no real starter and no marshals, yet the pace of play is good. Staff is always friendly and accommodating, and price/value is outstanding, especially with Hot Deals. It was cart path only due to dryness which added a good physical workout. Would recommend and we will be back often.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 03/13/2023Rainy Days and Mondays
Played following a downpour so course a bit soggy. We only play the Mission inn courses about once per year while on vacation. We felt like it was not up to a level that we had seen in the past ( same time of year). Fairways were not as lush, and had some bare areas. Greens were rolling okay but coloration a bit mottled. Bunkers were clean and mostly raked. Would have been disappointed if we had paid rack rate; Hot Deal made for a fair price IMO. Cart guys always very nice!
We will be back and hopefully things will be better.
Highland Hills Golf Course
Played On 11/02/2022Leaves, Leaves
Course was in great condition from tee to greens; grasses full and green. Rough was tough, but not excessive. Biggest problem on this windy day was leaves. I know the course maintenance crew works hard to keep them off fairways and greens, but even a light wind causes ball finding challenges. Our group lost quite a few balls that should have been easy finds. Tried multiple colors of balls to help with coral color besting white or yellow for visibility. Just a fact of life in the fall!

Beautiful day in the Rockies. Course was in great shape from tee box to greens. Views to the west were very nice. Our second time here and will return.
Quail Dunes Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2022Always Consistent
This course is always consistent in many ways: staff friendliness, not overly busy do you can enjoy your round, no marshall pushing you, greens always great, always challenging but not frustrating, GREAT value! We have played here often since the pandemic and it is a great combination of the above listed things that make it a relaxing round of golf at Quail Dunes.
Grand Lake Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2022Grand Lake Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2022Second Time Around
Two of us played Grand Lake for the second time, the first being in 2021. Pace of play was very fast at 3 1/2 bourse on a Friday afternoon. What is most interesting is to observe the areas which were burned in the Troublesome Fire in 2020. Wildflowers were blooming in the burned wooded areas, and new homes were being built where others were destroyed by the fire. Good to see progress after devastation. The course playing area was not damaged, and is in good shape.
Four Mile Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2022Diabolical
Another course designed by Jim Engh and it has his style written all over it. From 90 degree turns on the fairways, to blind tee shots and big, sloping greens, this course brings all the risk/reward opportunities into play. Course staff was very friendly: Jim in the pro shop gave us an overview of the course as it was our first time there. Mike the starter filled in the details, and off we went. We were playing with others who had played there before, which really helped us plan and navigate the holes. Course was in immaculate condition! We loved it. As mentioned in other reviews, the amenities are a bit spartan, but the course is great. Highly recommend if you like to plan your shots, rather than grip and rip.
Quail Dunes Golf Course
Played On 04/15/2022Conditions Improving
Conditions are improving as Spring arrives. Two greens which were under repair are now open; all greens are in good condition. Some fairways are a bit mottled in coloration, guessing due to lack of water this season.. Frost delayed play on 4/15, but we all managed to get out and enjoy the day.
Vaaler Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/14/2022First Visit
My husband and I were on vacation in San Antonio and decided to drive up to Vaaler Creek near Blanco for a round. The course was in good condition, considering the dry winter. The course layout was comfortably challenging with the water crossings being the prime enemy to a good round. Greens were smooth and moderately fast. Amenities like lunch seemed to be lacking, possibly due to it being a winter Monday, That was not a big issue for us. Would play this course again if we return to the area.
Deer Island Country Club
Played On 11/01/2021Serene from Tee to Green!
Our first time at this course, and the experience was excellent! Jerry, the starter, gave us a great overview of the course before we started, along with the very appropriate Gator warning. I don’t think we have ever played a course that was so serene and quiet. The only sounds were those of the wide variety of birds on the course, with an occasional seaplane taking off or landing. The course conditions were excellent from tee to green. The fairways were smooth and the bunkers were filled with powderlike sand which made those shots quite fun. Alligators were plentiful in the water hazards, but quite docile and fun to see for us Colorado folks. One feature I have never seen at a course was compressed air devices outside the clubhouse to blow sand and grass off golf shoes and clubs following the round - excellent idea!! Of the 5 courses we played this trip to Florida, I would rank this the finest.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 10/29/2021Great Time
While we have played the Las Colinas course at Mission Inn a few times, this was our first time at El Campeon. The course was in outstanding condition, possibly due to it hosting an NFL alumni tournament a few days before, and a Latinoamerica Qualifying tournament a few days after we played. The course is certainly challenging, but rewards good shots. Play was a bit slow on a Friday afternoon, with at one point, three groups waiting at a tee box. Rain hit late in the round, but we completed it anyway. Congrats to the group of gentlemen of a wedding party, who very courteously allowed us to play through them. Will certainly play here again!
