Great Layout but soggy

This is a great looking course with a very challenging but very fair layout. You really do need to control your ball flight or else your score will increase. The fairways looked as if they had been recently been overseeded, and there are plenty of sand traps and water holes bordering the fairways and a few, guarding the greens. The tee boxes are well maintained, and the greens were at the time we played surprisingly hard, and somewhat slow. The fairways on the front nine and just about everywhere you walked, were so soft as to actually feel you were walking on jello. It has been we were told a very wet fall and the course has not been able to handle the volume of precipitation received. The back nine for some reason or other was drier that the front nine, but there were still places where walking was mushy. Since it was cart parth only there were divots all over the course as most golfers just failed to repair their divots. In my view the course should have been closed to prevent damage to the fairways, otherwise I would say that this is the nicest course we have played in HH for the money. Some reviewers have criticised the condition of the cart paths and the bumps caused by tree roots. This is a condition that is par for playing in the south, just go slow and keep your eyes on the road. ,

Would I play or recommend this course the answer is yes.

Bring your A game

First time on this course which although it looks to be wide and safe to play has many hidden hazzards to avoid. The key to playing well here is to knowing the course and when to lay up or where to play the ball. Good shots often wind up unplayable or lost because of hidden hazards. Greens were good and fast with plenty of slopes and rises on them. The greens are large and shaped in ways that make attacking the flag a real challenge because of their layout (long & narrow) or heavily sloped. The tees were not in the best of condition, but I have seen worst. There is a need for some overseeding to be done. The fairways were good, but very very soft due to the enormous amount of rain that has fallen in the region this year. The bunkers are hard and in need of more sand to make exiting them easier. In some cases it was like playing from a hard pan. There are bunkers everywhere so shot accuracy and distance control becomes essential to play well here. The cart paths on some holes are in need of repair, but for the most part are good, besides you are riding and not walking so what if there are a few bumps along the way. Staff here is very friendly and most helpful with suggestions how to play the course or at least a particular hole. Pace of play (tee off was at 9am on a Saturday) was fast with no delays on the tees or the holes themselves. The clubhouse was in good shape as were the washrooms and the pro shop was well stocked for any last minute needs. We were told by the marshall on the course, after expressing to him that the course was challenging, especially since I was not on my "A" game, for me to take some comfort in that the course has been rated as the most difficult course in the HH area the last 5 years in a row.
Would I recommend this course Yes more certainly but bring your A game, or as consolation forget your score and enjoy the great scenery that the course has to offer.

Nice Course Nice staff

As a former member somewhat biased towards the course, it is a great play with challenging greens and approach shots. Must be able to hit 2nd shot long or face layups. Course is well maintained by grounds staff. Good course for someone who wants a great golf outing.
