Harbour View Golf Complex
Played On 11/30/2013Challenging Par 3
Being from out of town, I always try and squeeze in some golf when I come to North Myrtle Beach. And being that sometimes I'm short on time, I love stopping at Harbour View in Little River to play their Par 3 course.
The very narrow tree lined fairways keep this course challenging and exciting. Since I typically play in the winter, the greens are almost always covered in pine needles and a little overgrown. But for the price, I think can look past that. The tee boxes are artificial, however you can stand to the side or in front of most of them if you choose to.
There are a few holes around 150-yards but most are in the 90-110 range. You should only need about three clubs for this place as there aren't many bunkers either.
ChampionsGate Golf Club - International
Played On 09/22/2013Fantastic Links Course
While the Champions Gate courses are fantastic, the International course seems to be the best one. The course is pretty challenging but a fun resort course tucked away from the world.
This course has everything you could want from a links style course and is a real treasure in Central Florida. Several holes allow you to just grip it and rip it! While others make you question your club selection. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and golf course is pristine.
Extra Credit: Play in the early morning to have a beautifully serene experience with the occasional passing hot air balloon.
Dunedin Stirling Links
Played On 06/16/2013Fair Par 3
Was hoping for a great little Par 3 course at an excellent price but unfortunately it lived up to the discounted price I paid. Not worth paying the full price for this course.
It had rained the previous day however there was plenty of standing water around the course. Granted most of this was between the tee box and greens, as we walked the course we had to jump over the puddles. A lot of sandy greens and just poor course conditions all along.
If you get to play for under $10 and you're really itching to hit some balls on a course, this may be worth your time. However I'd recommend just getting a bucket and hitting the range instead.
Shadow Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/28/2013Come for the Views, Stay for the Course
Shadow Ridge is definitely a beautiful course surrounded by breathtaking views. But it also offers a fantastic challenge for even the seasoned golfers.
The fairways are laced with bunkers taunting you at the tee box. And the greens require precision in your short game. However, there is still plenty of fun to be had at Shadow Ridge for even a novice golfer.
The Marriott staff was very friendly, welcoming and professional and the burger at the club house was delicious! If you're in the area, you can't miss out on playing this course!
Extra Credit: Play in the evenings to avoid the heat and enjoy the beautiful sunset reflecting off the surrounding mountains.
Forest Hills Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2013Great Front 9, Sleepy Closing Holes
Forest Hills has a storied history starting with the start of Bobby Jones 1930 Grand Slam. However more recently as being the home of Augusta State's NCAA Championship Golf team.
The front half of this course is fantastic with great scenery, elevation changes and quick greens. However the closing holes are almost forgettable. The hilly condition, as the name states, keeps this course fun.
