Orchard Hills Golf Course
Played On 06/11/2021Convenient local lYout
Popular spot with older crowd for an easy nine on weekday mornings. Sinple routing but no 2 holes are alike. Not too taxing but there are two hills to climb if you walk. Greens alow but have some slope.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 02/19/2020typical Florida course
Walking is not allowed here because the layout is so convoluted you would walk more between holes than on the course. Yet there are no houses lining the course to explain this. Conditions are average with some of the greens a little beat up and slow. There are some holes with decent designs but not all. Typically tight Florida course: bounds a river so driver can stay in the bag most of the time. Best part was there were surprisingly no bugs - worst part is that course is infested with super seniors who play rather slowly. Overall, the place is just average; no better no worse.

Hillcrest Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/07/2019beautiful semi-private gem
wonderful course with mature trees, small greens and few bunkers. well-maintained and staffed. not crowded at all around midday and could play in slightly over 3 hours. doesn't look too difficult but greens are tricky and there are trees all over with a few water hazards tossed in. nice range and one of the few places around with electric carts.
The Club at Venetian Bay
Played On 02/02/2019gently rolling relaxed layout
venetian bay is a sprawling gently rolling layout spread thru a development close to I95 near daytona. convenient to get to with all the amenities; bar, grill, nice range, putting green. design is nearly treeless but with much water and some sand. wind is definitely a factor and in the summer there will be no relief from shade. impossible to walk due to long gaps between holes. challenging but fair design in good shape tee to green although the greens here in early February were a little choppy. a nice day.
We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Spooky Brook Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2018Pleasant straightforward course
When you need a course that is not going to beat you over the head for every mistake but yet still be well maintained and run, then Spooky Brook is for you. Wide fairways, fair greens and only a bunker here and there to avoid. You can still lose a golf ball here or there but you have to work to do so. Great pace of play as well.
Stony Ford Golf Course
Played On 06/14/2018Hidden sky top gem
For a county course you get an experience that is smoothly efficient, without hassle and with pleasing if not overwhelming aesthetics. A little browning on the fairways but fairly cut rough and views from many holes than can make you forget about golf..interesting design that seems to feature more right to left holes than vice versa.
SkyView Golf Club
Played On 05/24/2018Unique mountain course
Everyone who plays golf in Northern New Jersey should play this course at least once . The fourth hole is unlike anything you’ve probably seen anywhere . Everyone who plays it for the first time because it unfair or a gimmick despite the fact that the views are unbeatable . Once you are familiar with the whole though you’ll realize it’s actually fairly easy . Rest of the course is not particularly easy . It is very hilly and tight And there are times when you hit a good shot that you were not rewarded in fact penalized . But it is a beautiful mountain top setting and the conditioning is good enough that you won’t leave there with regrets .
High Bridge Hills Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2017farmland links course
nice well kept course just a few miles off I78 in west Jersey. Rolling terrain, beautiful views. Nice grass quality. Not overplayed so there are no worn down areas near the greens. Interesting hole designs with some elevation changes; not a course to walk unless you are under 25.
But one caveat: we played on a weekday with iffy weather and the course was empty. But it is a links layout with fairways tightly packed with small fescued mounds separating them. Also many times when you went to the next hole you had to backtrack to the tee. They did not have a lot of land to work with here; i could see this course being a hard hat area on a crowded summer Sunday afternoon.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 09/14/2017nice place while it lasts
eagle ridge is a very beautiful, well-kept course down by the Jersey shore. it is tight and does not offer too many opportunities to just flail away. not very long especially the par 3's. greens with many swales and subtle breaks.
but the course has been sold to a group which would like to turn at least part of the 27 holes into housing. they don't have approval yet and may not get it for awhile but if you want to play this neat little layout you had better not delay.
Black Bear Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2017in beautiful hilly country, this is an ugly course
Don't get me wrong. The course is reasonably well maintained. Tees, fairways and greens were all in at least average shape or better. But there is something lacking in the aesthetics of this course. The signature hole (7) a par 3 over water. Well the water is this murky shade of grey probably left over from some mining activity and the backdrop are all these high voltage electric lines that run straight thru the heart of the course. And the design seems very forced. Many times you can't park your cart near the green and sometimes you have to double back over the same cart path to get to the next hole. It is not hilly really since you are going along the valley but the sides of every hole seem to be hilly. And the course always seems to be parched in the areas that the sprinklers don't reach since i guess all the water runs down to the valley. I guess i would play here again if it were the only option but, for a resort course, it gives you the feeling you are on a muni.
One/Two Course at Apple Greens Golf Course
Played On 06/29/2017hidden gem up the thruway
a 27 hole layout with the original 18 set among apple orchards and flat and with the new East nine rising on the hill across the road. Conditioning is excellent and variety of holes for the original 18 is good given the flat land. The new East nine is so different it is like you are on another planet. Try to play the East late in the afternoon so that you can see the sun setting behind the Shawangunk mountains to the west. And bring a camera. Also bring a different mindset because those mountain holes require a different set of skills. This place is definitely worth a nice easy drive up the thruway.
Colts Neck Golf Club
Played On 05/21/2017semi private seclusion
in beautiful horse country near Jersey shore Colts Neck Golf Club is an unusual treat. A smallish plot of land and a quirky layout with a par 37 front and a par 34 back (with 4 par 3's). But yet except for 1 and 2 no fairways run next to each other. Since it is semi-private there are not a lot of rounds played and the conditioning is very good. Greens are quite fast but not overly contoured. Bunkers are well maintained and fairways are fully grassed.
Played an under 4 hr round on a Sunday teeing off at 11 am. That in itself is a miracle; worth the price. No really memorable holes until 18 which is a very difficult par 3. But nice rolling country; probably could play here without a driver; even the 5 par fives are more positioning than brute strength.
Of note though. Nine does not come back to the clubhouse and their halfway house was closed on a Sunday. There is a cart girl but if there is no member in your group you cannot buy beer. Nor can you purchase it in the clubhouse. So, if i were a Mormon i might give it 5 stars.
Jack Frost National Golf Course
Played On 04/23/2017big course in big country
jack frost occupies a whole mountain out in the poconos. you could probably fit two other courses on as well. you never see another fairway. most holes slope up or down but there are few unfair lies. most holes are long and wide but there is a mix with tight holes as well. big well conditioned greens. only negative might be the cheap port potties on course.
Spook Rock Golf Course
Played On 04/16/2017early season jitters
greens recently aerated. understandable. but not rolled at all so way too bumpy. lots of bare areas chipping around greens. understandable this early in year. fairways fine. sand in bunkers better than last year where they never groomed bunkers. played for $39; which is fair. i don't feel this is an $80 course anymore. pace about average for Sunday afternoons where 5 hrs is the rule rather than the exception.
Crystal Springs Golf Club
Played On 09/25/2016Strange test of golf at Crystal Springs
While a tight course running through a housing development in the hills can be found in a lot of places Crystal Springs goes that one further and deploys mounds not just on the side of the fairways but right in the middle of most fairways as well. The result sometimes really penalizes good shots and unfairly rewards some poor shots. While there are some beautiful holes and vistas (namely #11) the overall feel is that you are looking at cheaply constructed town homes for the most part. The conditioning is ok but not spectacular. Grass is cut unevenly in many spots probably due to the effect of all those mounds. Lots of big rocks around greens as well that give it a sort of gimmicky feel. While it didn't feel like play was very slow the round ended up being 5 hours probably due to the 30 minutes of driving to the next tee box.
Bunker Hill Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2016nothing to write home about
very average course with below average fairways and rough. lots of crabgrass and uneven cutting. different colored sand in a lot of the bunkers. greens in ok shape but rather slow. markings are ok with mid-fairway poles. ok for practice course if you live nearby but not worth drive from anywhere else.
The Architects Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2016architects needs some landscaping
architects is a course with wonderful design with each hole inspired by the work of a renowned golf architect.
that makes for a very interesting array of hole designs far superior to comparable courses. the devil is in the details though and some of these need to be worked out better. the fairways are in good shape but there are too many ball marks on the greens and the traps are obviously not groomed daily. only a few holes have a working ball washer. and, i have played here twice, and it has been a 5 hr round each time; that could just be bad luck though. great views and it is super easy to get a dog or burger from the outdoor grill at the turn.
Skyway Golf Course at Lincoln Park West
Played On 07/03/2016oasis in soprano's country
really cool little nine hole course stuck right next to the Pulaski Skyway. Treeless mounded links style course looks like it belongs in Ocean City MD but is in reality just blocks from where the Soprano's filmed some scenes.
conditioning is excellent and the place is well run by a friendly staff. there is no massive clubhouse just a little trailer but they do have a cart girl.
some of the holes (4 of 9) have some blind aspects to them so playing it for the first time can be confusing. however, it is so unique you'll want to play it for the second time the very next day.
Garrison Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2016it's all about the views
hadn't been here in 30 years. as spectacular scenic views as anywhere. interesting but tight course; front nine carved into side of hill, back nine sits on top of hill. length not that important but accuracy is mandatory. some greens have putts that break 90 degrees or return to your feet if you don't carry the ridge. you would need to play it often to score well but it is an experience that you should do at least once.
East Orange Golf Course
Played On 12/25/2015golf on Christmas is never a bad thing.
Course just recently opened this summer. Was very wet on day i played. Understandably so; it had rained two prior days. But you can see that they rushed the course open without taking care of a lot of the little things. There are no signs marking the holes, very limited yardage markings, cart paths only by tees and greens. There is no starter and no rangers. The greens were actually alright and the tees weren't too bad but the fairways were not good. To be fair i would have to go back next year in mid season to see if the fairways are better. There will be a range open by next season it appears. The cost was fairly low and for now, at least, that is all it is worth. Still, a bad day of golf beats a good day at work.
Thanks so much for your review. We're so glad you enjoyed your round at Orchard Hills Golf Course. We appreciate your feedback. We hope to see you again soon!
