Great value for Hilton Head

Really great course for the money. Crescent Pointe has the beautiful layout, challenging hole design, and beautiful Hilton Head scenery of the more expensive resorts, but at a great price. Some holes were extremely challenging, and greens were well guarded by sand and water, but the live oaks with spanish moss and the beautiful grounds made the experience great.

Several of the par threes have live web cams and offer prizes for shots within two feet, one foot, and hole in one. My playing partner won a $50 gift card for sticking one under a foot!

Nice surprise

Very nice course a manageable distance from Pittsburgh. Most golfers I play with in pittsburgh are unfamiliar- but they are missing out. Affordable rates and a unique layout- I especially like the last few holes of the front 9. Always in good condition and well maintained.

If Birdsfoot is on HotDeals, BOOK IT!

Beautiful course! Drove from oakland (pitt students), only took about 30 minutes, arrived in plenty of time for our 750 tee time. First 3 holes were VERY challenging because of a dense fog and unfamiliarity with the course. This course has a beautiful layout with interesting holes, some incredible views and well maintained fairways. Lots of sand for a public course, and many of the bunkers were saturated but all were raked as well as possible.

The only problem I had with this course was the rate of play, which i attribute to:
Overbooking
Hidden balls in long rough (uncut because of wet weather)
LONG holes

The starter and marshal seemed aware of the tendency for long rounds and did there best to speed things up- all of the staff were very friendly. However, if you plan on playing after 8am, dont book unless you're willing to devote most of the day to your round.

Interesting layout and well maintained, but horrible setup

First of all, golfers should be aware that this is a 9 hole course! This was far from apparent, and when we couldn't find the 10th tee, the person working in the proshop informed us that "you just play from 1 again. Start from different tees to make it more interesting." This was FAR from clearly marked, so we had no idea we had signed up to play a 9 hole course.

In fact, nothing at this course was well marked. There is no signage of any kind to indicate which hole is where. Not on the cart path (very rough, washed out gravel), not on the tee box, not even on the flag. We played hole #9 thinking it was #5 because of the inadequate hole number indication. Finding the holes was difficult not only because of the lack of signage, but the confusing, interweaving, and unmarked cartpath network. The first tee was a good 5 minute ride from the "clubhouse" (double wide trailer in an unmaintained gravel lot surrounded by weeds, without so much as a hotdog available for lunch) that required negotiation of several forks in the road, none of which indicated the direction of the tee. We teed off a good 15 minutes behind our scheduled tee time after we got lost several times attempting to find the first tee.

Despite this, the course was well designed and was interesting to play. Each hole had an attractive layout with many interesting features. The course was very well hydrated and generally maintained, although the rough was ROUGH when we played, like 6 or 7 inches long. Made chipping around the greens a little frustrating. Greens and fairways were lush and well kept.

I would play the course again ONLY if offered for a very heavily discounted rate, and just for a quick practice round. Despite the quality of play, it appears the management spent all of its money on the landscaping of the course and literally zero on the clubhouse, cart paths, and other amenities. I'm not the kind of guy who normally cares about a luxurious golf experience, but this was almost a little difficult to play because of the poor organization.

Truly "Grand" View

Great course for college students to escape the city. Within 15 minutes of oakland, Grandview is one of my favorites for college students. Interesting layout and well maintained course, with some particularly interesting holes and some great views of the river and the city of pittsburgh. Some of the holes are very similar and seem repetitive, but its perfect for an afternoon or weekend outing for students and locals.

Beautiful course and very well maintained.

Phesant ridge is a beautiful course about thirty minutes north of Pittsburgh. We played the second week of October, so the leaves were in full turn. The course was remarkably well kept from quality of grass on fairways and roughs to the newly redone bunkers and hazards. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Great course to play especially with the GolfNow hot deal. Definitely will return!

BEAUTIFUL course, very well maintained, good value.

I am a Pitt student, and this is my favorite course in the Pittsburgh area. Played a round in late september, just as leaves were beginning to turn. The course was absolutely gorgeous in terms of scenery and layout. The grounds are extremely well maintained, fairways and greens are lush and hydrated. It's a bit of a drive from Pittsburgh proper, but this makes for a secluded and peaceful weekend round.

The starter was very helpful and friendly, and while he definitely ran a tight ship for golfers who were disrespectful, he was joking around with us- a refreshing change from most stern, intimidating starters.

The course offers a variety of hole styles, from short and creative par threes to challenging par fives with considerable topography and length. While the course is challenging and keeps better players interested, it was forgiving enough to be enjoyable for novices (my partner and I are both off ~20).

Overall I would highly recommend Pheasant Ridge for quality of golf and for the peaceful scenery. Try it on an autumn weekend- gorgeous!

Very unique design, challenging.

What a unique course for western PA! This truly is an honest attempt at a links-style course despite being constructed in Pennsylvania farm country, with rolling hills, considerable topography, and long fairways. We were told the course is privately owned and operated by a group of retirees who are more passionate about European style golf than about making money, which makes for an enjoyable course to play.

The course seems to have been constructed in and around a developed community. From the looks of it, the developer bough several hundred acres of hilly farmland and developed a small residential community and surrounded it with a golfcourse. The views are spectacular!

The clubhouse is pretty lack-luster, but there is a neat old barn (presumably from the original farm on the property) with a restaurant. Judging from the timber and hole-and-peg construction, the barn appears to be at least 100yrs old- a really interesting structure.

The course is challenging! The first tee is an intimidating blind uphill shot over a gorge and onto a side-sloped fairway for a lengthy and unforgiving par 5. All of the fairways are lined with untamed high fieldgrass, which simulates European fescue, so hitting fairways is important. The greens and fairways are well watered and maintained. The greens are a little challenging, but not lightening fast.

The layout is well designed and follows a continuous pattern that takes you on a nice tour around the property. Some of the higher elevation holes have spectacular scenery of the surrounding area. There is a very good variety of holes and keeps play interesting. The 18th hole is a par 5 that ends in a spectacular drop for the second shot. An absolute bomb off the tee can reach the drop and roll quite close for a second approach shot, but you're likely hitting a blind second shot and laying up. The green is over a water hazard and right in front of the barn, which has tables outside to watch people play the 18th.

Definitely worth a try, just to see a different style of course.
