Bakewell Golf Club
Played On 05/04/2023A Little Gem!
This was my 1st visit to Bakewell GC, but it certainly won't be my last. Everything about the course, clubhouse and even the car park on arrival, oozed tranquility. I cannot recall any other club that has such a relaxing, yet organised feel. The course is demanding, but fair, with a fair number of 'risk and reward' shots to be taken on if players are brave enough. Do beware of a couple of points where holes intersect each other and always remember to ring bells to indicate to the following group that it is safe to play their shots. I was playing alone and within 5 minutes of starting my round a two ball very kindly asked if I would like to join them, but I politely declined as I only had time to play 9 holes on this occasion. Both the wonderful wildlife and breathtaking views over the town were a joy to behold. Overall, I'd recommend this course to all golfers, unless the steeply sloping fairway gradients are likely to prove overly exerting.

As ever, the course was excellently kept. The greens are particularly good. Mats were in use for teeing off, due to preserving main tees for spring, summer and autumn golf, but they did not detract from a very enjoyable round.
Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club
Played On 12/27/2018Best Turf Ever!!
Teed off mats, which were excellent. Greens in very decent order. Fairways were absolutely luxuriant - unequalled on any of the 20 odd courses I have played this year. Last played this course in Summer, 2017 and it is in better nick now than it was then, despite it being late December! If I did not have to make a 55 mile round trip to play this course, I would play it much more often.
Rufford Park Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/16/2018Much improved Greens
The course was in very good condition, with the greens in excellent order, much improved from when I last played the course 6 months ago. The only downside of this course is the slow pace of play, which is testament to the popularity of the course! Overall, it is well worth a visit and I will be returning soon.
Matlock Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2018Fair Round
Cold, but dry and bright morning. Pro told me full greens were in play and 16 were, after earlier frost.
Course in decent condition for November.Unfortunately, 2 players repeatedly teed off before we were out of range, which ruined what would have been an enjoyable round. We got round in just over 3 hours, so could not be accused of slow play. Try this course for a good test of golf.
Springwater Golf Club
Played On 09/21/2018Superb Course
I had meant to play Springwater for a while, but really glad I did. It was well worth making the 75 mile round trip to play what is an absolute joy! I will return again very soon to enjoy the wide variety of testing holes. The turf in general and the greens in particular were as good as any I have played this year and better than most. The 18th is an excellent Par 3, which rounds off a course to remember.
Buxton & High Peak Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2018Inland Links Course!!
First visit, but it will not be the last. Love the course which felt like an inland links on a number of holes, which are extremely varied. Many holes contain blind tee shots, so if you are not driving straight, you could find penal rough. Hidden greens prevail, but what I liked most is the different, in a good way, feel of this course, which, is so unlike many of the others I have played.
Sitwell Park Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2018Better Than Ever!
Having played this course on about half a dozen occasions, much credit goes to the greenkeeping staff, as it is in tip-top condition, despite the wet weather over the past few months. There is an excellent variety of holes, which require maximum concentration at all times, to ensure club selection is correct.
Morley Hayes Hotel & Golf - Manor Course
Played On 03/21/2018Great golfing examination
Despite the recent heavy snowfall, the course was in decent condition, with inevitable soft ground in places. Greenkeepers were hand-mowing the greens, which were immaculate for March. Whatever your ability, this course offers a tough but fair test. Also, the Driving Range is probably the best in The East Midlands.
Rufford Park Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/24/2017Improved Course
I had not played here for 18 months and I found the course in better condition than previously. Sadly, it has become a victim of its own success though, as too many are playing it, due to its superb drainage in winter. Overall, it is a must play course, with the signature 17th hole an absolute joy.
Sitwell Park Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2017Lovely Golf Club
Unfortunately, on the morning of play, there had been a heavy frost, so temporary greens were in use for the outward 9, before full greens were re-introduced as the ground thawed. Overall, the course was in excellent order for the second half of November and The 19th Hole was also superbly kept, as ever.
Cavendish Golf Club
Played On 11/01/2017Most Disappointing
After reading the excellent reviews, we decided to travel 60 miles to play this course, but tee mats were in place on all holes and some temporary greens were in use. Having played over a dozen courses for the first time in 2017, sadly this one was the only one that failed to live up to its reputation. Other than the Par 3's, which impressed with their elevated tees on to greens many feet below, no hole stood out
Matlock Golf Club
Played On 08/25/2017Extremely picturesque location
One has to really give much thought to each shot, with club selection being of paramount importance. Although not a long course, anyone scoring low here will have truly earned their post-round drink! It is unlike, any other course I have played, which makes it worth a visit, but beginners will find it extremely tough!
Dore & Totley Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2017Varying course, with mature and fairly new holes
This course is in good condition currently, compared with the previous times I have played it. Good hole variety - another par 3 and par 5 would enhance it, but overall it is well worth a visit.
Horsley Lodge Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2017Good hole variety
It was my 1st round here since late 2015 as the course is a long distance for me. It is always a pleasure to play, but the course is in a slightly inferior condition now than it was previously.
South Chesterfield Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2017Much Improved Course
The course was in the best condition I have known it. The greens were particularly good! Unfortunately for me, the course was very busy, due to a Seniors Midweek Medal, but I was very pleased to see the course thriving.
