Dormie Club
Played On 08/01/2016Awesome, Fun, Beautiful course
The course layout is great, the driving range is set up well, and the first tee shot is awesome. The fairways may have been the best fairways I have ever played, they were perfect, tons of waste bunkers and plenty of tall grass. Over all the course Is pretty wide open and solid, not really any similar holes. The greens on the back nine were burned out just a little but that was the only problem. We used a caddy and he was really good at his job, he helped us with where to place the ball and helped us with reading putts. Mostly it was a relaxing enjoyable fun round of golf and I would recommend Dormie Club, and Jeremy to anyone who plays in the area.
Solid Course
The course was in very good shape. Tee boxes were repaired and clean. Fairways were cut and green and in very very good shape. The difference between the fairway and rough is visible. Bunkers were in ok shape, but haven't been touched very much. Overall this is a fun course and it makes you think through most of the shots. Not every shot can be mindless. The greens rolled pretty true but slow. The biggest problem with the course is the green. I assume the members never even think about repairing a divot. With each putt I had to repair probably 2-3 divots that hadn't been touched. The older gentleman is pretty stand offish in the pro shop but that's not a bug deal. The course is fun, even from the tips you will hit probably 5-6 irons off the tee bc of some ditches and shortness of the holes. The layout is good though, no boringness to any hole. All in all a good experience and worth $40.

Played On 06/23/2015High Class Feel
When you pull up to this course you get the feeling its going to be an amazing day. You walk into what is an amazing and extremely high class old school club house with a masters clubhouse feel, its amazing. Little lounges and amazing locker rooms and great, i mean great staff that are more than friendly. Im a younger guy (27) so i usually expect to get treated a little worse than the older guys but they treated me like a king. The facilities are great, titleist range balls and a great putting green. The front nine is less than aw inspiring. The holes were pretty straight forward with plenty of burnt out spots. It does get better on the back nine and the lady at the turn was awesome, they have cold towels and apples and anything you can drink. The back nine seems to be well though out and it was fun. But to be honest, you can play the same golf course for $80 less at Southern Pines. But everything else about the course is amazing. Staff, Facilities, Food, everything was great, but the course was underwhelming.

Played On 06/11/2015Very fun course
The clubhouse is incredible, the range is great with plenty of greens to hit to. The course is hilly with amazing views and long grass everywhere. The course is mostly wide open off the tee. The front nine is fun with some good holes, but the back nine is very challenging with some of the best views a downtown course could ever have. Some of the fairways were burned out a little and no one repairs their divot on this course. The course was absolutely packed but pace was pretty good. Very very fun course with every hole unique.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the course and the views. Sounds like you really enjoyed your round and we appreciate you taking the time to give us a review!

Played On 06/05/2015Fun Layout in bad condition
I was actually surprised to see that the course didn't look horrible when i pulled up. Club house, carts, and staff friendliness are very poor. The course seemed like it was probably fun and nice about 20 years ago, with a decent layout. The greens are in ok condition, maybe a 6/10. They weren't burnt out and rolled nicely. The par 5s were pretty long from the back. The course layout is fun and pretty wide open, you don't need to be accurate to shoot low here. Cart paths are almost no existent and fairways are just backyard grass with very little attention to them. I paid $29 on a friday and i would say this course would be worth it at $14. GREAT starter course or a course for juniors though. All in all, not very well maintained and no website either. Steer clear.

Played On 06/04/2015Very Bad Course/ Greens in a pasture
This is by far the worst course I've ever played. It is a pasture with some small circles with cut grass and a hole. The greens are slower than shag carpet. You will most likely shoot your best round ever here. I would bring my 10 year old nephew here but thats about it. I played the back tees and hit 7 iron as my second on every par 5 so you should be able to do some damage on those puppies. The yardages are off on some of the par 3s and on the first hole, second shot. The fairways is just back yard grass and the greens are basically back yard grass cut short. They haven't moved the flags in probably 3 weeks. The grass is long and growing inside the cup. The second hole and the 12th hole are clearly the best holes. If you wanna just go to the range but end up writing scores on a score card this is your place. I was 1 of 3 on the course, thats why pace of play was great.
.5 stars
Anderson Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2015Very Long, Decent Course
I played from the back tees and i was looked at multiple times like i was a complete moron. The course is 7,200 from the back which is normal from where i am from. But the course is pretty doable. Anyway, we spoke to some members who while telling us we were crazy for playing the back, updated us on the course. They said Davis Love was no longer involved and that the course had gone way down hill in recent years. They were right. I had been told about this course for a couple months, that it was the hidden jem around here. Well it was pretty untrue. Course fairways were pretty rough, greens weren't great and bunkers were over grown and grass was all around them. Many places were hard to find the distance to the green too. If you play from the back have fun on the par 3s. I played them well but they are long. We paid $35. Thats iffy for this place. Should be $25-30 max. Plenty of nicer courses on golf now for the $35 range that i would rather play. Holes 14-18 are great and you can tell were very well designed. Could be a great course. Members out here are drinking beer and betting on holes. We luckily got stuck behind 5 Five some of drinking members coming out of the bar. All were pretty poor golfers and slow as humanly possible. We played 18 holes in 6 hours and 35 minutes. So have fun with that part of it, they also don't take care of the course at all. Divots are everywhere and the greens have divots literally covering the whole green. I probably repaired 50.
Thanks for the review. Just saw it for $25 on Groupgolfer and have heard great things in the past so almost bought. Glad I came here first.
Deercroft Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2015Nice Course
I paid $25 on Golfnow which made it worth it. Course is like many NC courses with sand everywhere. Ive heard they are making improvements. The course is fun with some wide open holes and some pretty tight ones off the tee. Little pro shop but the employees are incredibly nice and welcoming. They absolutely what you to come back. Some of the cart paths might be difficult to follow if you aren't paying attention. Nice putting green and decent driving range, can't hit driver though. Some greens are small. Greens are in good shape but pretty slow in places. Some of the toughest putts I've ever had, almost impossible to read. It was quite odd. If you drive the ball well you can score here. Nice fairways and nice greens. I would go back.
Sky Valley Country Club
Played On 05/23/2015This Course has Everything
A beautiful course in a valley. Other than hole #1 you can hit a driver ( if accurate ) off every tee. The first 3-4 holes aren't amazing but it gets better and better after that. Pro shop is nice and clubhouse is great and all the fairways are in great condition and the greens are awesome. Not many holes are dead straight but if you can shape shots you can score pretty low here. Every hole has an amazing background to it. I paid $65 on a saturday afternoon and it was worth it. I believe it costs $50 during the week making it a steal. Putting and chipping green are very nice and they transfer to the course which i huge in my opinion. Driving range is small, no drivers. The fairways are rolled and look beautiful. Once you get to hole 8, you're in for some awesome awesome holes and some amazing views and some pretty difficult shots. I would love to see this course in the fall. Juts being on the green in 2 guarantees you nothing here. Put it close to the pin or a 3 putt is very possible. I played alone but my wife rode with me and we never stopped talking about how awesome the course was. I would recommend this course to anyone. Even though its in Georgia it plays just like a NC course, very tight off the tee. Plenty of hybrids and 3 irons off the tee unless you're feeling real good with the driver. GREAT PLACE. I will play it again.
Best Golf Course in North Ga. have played Most Courses in North Ga.,,( Incl. Augusta Natl.,,),,Sky Valley is as Much, or More fun, as any course around Highlands, N.C.,,and more affordable. I have played it since 1976.
Tobacco Road Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2015Absolutely Amazing Course
This place is awesome. You pull into a clean heavily pined area with a nice rustic looking clubhouse. They are playing some banjo or moonshiner music at the cart barn. The driving range isn't anything special but it'll do the job. The putting green sets the tone for what could be if you don't hit an approach shot on the right tier of the green. The first hole is absolutely amazing. make sure you download their app for yardages. Also go ahead and buy a yardage book too. The course never really gets easy. Your best bail out is a bunker on most holes. If you drive the ball straight or if you can hit a good controlled hybrid or long 3 iron......225 is then you can score on the front nine. Have fun on the 9th hole but just get the ball up in the area of the green because the entire green funnels to the hole. The back nine is a beast. #11 isn't bad though. #13-#18 are awesome, the most precise shots will be needed. #13 is a par 5 and if you go for it in 2, you had better hit the green and it better come in high. #14 is probably the most demanding and the scariest hole out there. Hit the green or you're gonna bogey most likely. Hit driver on #15 and play a cut. It will also be a tough green to stick it on. #16 is up to you. I hit driver right at the furthest left bunker and i birdied the hole. The smart play would be 3 iron. #17 gives a little bit of a breather but short is your bailout. #18 looks very very tight and tough but play a draw with a driver or hybrid and it opens up. This course is absolutely amazing and the staff is friendly and talkative. I've played TPC Louisiana, TPC Sawgrass, and I've played in Ireland, and this course compares to those all day long. Its like a mix of Chambers bay meets the british open, placed in arizona. Its 5 stars all day and its only $100 during the week. Military makes it $90. I will bring every friend that visits me to this course. I LOVE this place. Watch your ball closely.
Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2015Great Course
The clubhouse isn't much but the guy working there was great to me. The facilities are great. Range is good enough and the putting green and chipping green are very good and similar to the course. The course actually had fairways and rough around the greens!!!!!!!! The greens are large and have tiers and tons of movement in them. Its a short course like most NC courses but if you play it from the back tees it will be fun. The flags tell you where the hole is located. Everyone of the par 3s are great and there are 2 easily drivable par 4s and 3 others that could be drivable with wind and a dry week but an errant tee shot would make the hole rough. Greens are in great shape, fast and extremely smooth. I played memorial day week and there were tons of older players out there. Pace of play was pretty slow because 3 of the short par 4s and two par 3s are all bunched together but i played alone so i couldn't complain. I enjoyed the course. They even cut weeds and bushes from around some of the pine trees. If they had cart paths, my guess is that this course would be 5 star but since there is no real quite of where to drive people kill the grass. Very fun course. If you're under a 12 Handicap it needs to be played from the back. I paid $40 at 2pm on a tuesday and that price is worth it.
Thank you for the great feedback LouisianaGolfer. We take great pride in our golf course and feel we have the best course conditions in the area. With the recent record heat wave our maintenance team had no choice but to keep the grass a little longer on our Bentgrass greens to ensure we can keep them alive. Good news is they do still roll true as you mentioned. Our greens will pick up speed early September and will be in the 10-11 on the stimpmeter by that time.
In regards to one of our staff members being stand offish: I appreciate you bringing that to our attention. We believe in the Southern culture and we strive to offer that type of hospitality while you are here with us. We do care to hear about your experience and hope to hear more feedback from you in the future. Hope to see you back out here at Bayonet soon!
