Oak Gables Golf Club - Maple Course
Played On 07/30/2016Fun
Showed up early for our golfnow special rate game and planned to drink in the patio to wait for our tee off. Unlike most places that treat golfnow customers as sub-par customers these guys did not. There was a slow point at tee off and they asked if we wanted to go, we sure did. Packed a cooler of beers and off we went. Pace was fairly good except for a twosome ahead of us that was slow but we realized they were both poor players but they were trying so we just let them be and slowed our play as well. We all started the same way. No one pushing us from behind so it was a really relaxing day at the course. Course was in fairly good shape considering the recent drought but last two day of rain softened the fairway somewhat. Greens were well taken care of which shows caring greens keepers and owners. Directions could be a little better but we found our way so not really a big complaint. Well worth playing but is somewhat an easy course. I don't know if I would pay full price however. I noticed it was quite pricey compared to other local courses that are bigger and more challenging. Discount for sure.

Tee off and greens OK but fairways were dead brown grass. Ground was dry and rock hard. Also no staff out on the course to move people along. Almost 10min wait at one hole. Lost a few balls to people ahead of me stealing them so I decided to wait till they were completely 2 holes ahead before teeing off. I can live with a poor course but people with poor etiquette not so much. Cheap course so maybe weekend is a bad idea to play there.

I paid almost nothing so no complaints from me but I must be honest for those looking to one day try this course. The fairways are very poor. Clovers and weeds outnumber grass, however I was surprised the greens were fairly decent.
I wouldn't pay full price for this course. I would play it with a substantial discount as I had. Few par 5 where I could let rip and criss/crossing fairways made other players coming from the opposite direction a decent hazard to avoid.
Great for beginners but would really upset intermediate or pro(wannabe), players. I had fun and got to try allot of shots I would not attempt on nicer courses.
