Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
Played On 08/18/2017shattered memories
My son and I had played the Woodlands course some years ago and it was different from our memory. Though while not the nostalgic revisit we had anticipated, it is still a quality course and a good experience. A good bit of home building has gone on, especially on the front nine and elevation changes are more dramatic than memory provided. The greens suffer from players' inattention to their ball marks, but otherwise the course was in very good condition.
Brasstown Valley Resort
Played On 08/17/2017a gem
The course is a 2 hour drive from my home. I try to play it several times a year; it is well worth the drive. There is nothing not to like about Brasstown Valley Resort and Golf. The golf course, the staff, the accommodations, the amenities are all first rate. If you must find anything negative, there may be a little too much fine sand in the bunkers. I love the place!
Mountain Glen Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2017a pleasant experience
Mountain Glen is a good, public, mountain golf course. The bent grass greens were well maintained and rolled true. As is the case in all too many of this type course the clientele is unwilling to bend over and fix their pitch marks- not the management's fault. The lay-out is attractive, and a meandering stream provides a hazard on a number of holes. There is only moderate elevation change, especially for a mountain course.
Boone Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2017public course/country club quality
This course is surprisingly flat for the part of the country in which it is. It is a first rate course, maintained superbly, and run with professional efficiency and courtesy. All aspects of the course-greens, fairways, tees, bunkers - are top notch. We played on a busy Wednesday morning and experienced very little delay
Mountain Aire Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2017Delightful experience
#3 has the most dramatic drop of any hole I have ever played. Other elevation changes, while significant, pale by comparison. The course was in excellent shape from tee through the well kept bent grass greens. This is not a walker's course, though we saw some locals doing so. They skipped some holes, I think. It is a fun, well-managed track, well worth the effort and is a good value.
RedTail Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2017Up and Down
This is a beautiful mountain course with a lot of elevation changes. The bent grass greens roll well and the remainder of the course was in excellent condition. The dramatic elevation changes make club selection an important part of the experience. We encountered rain delay twice during the round and the third time was such that we had to quit after 17. However, it was a great experience on a challenging and lovely course. The staff could not have been more accommodating.
Asheville Municipal Golf Course
Played On 08/14/2017Donald Ross wouldn't be happy
This is a municipal course that gets a lot of traffic. The greens reflect the Donald Ross design, but suffer from lack of clientele attention to their pitch marks. The rest of the course needs some attention: fairways are somewhat splotchy, rough is inconsistent, and the tee boxes are relatively bare. The staff is courteous and the starter friendly. If you have no where else to go this is ok. It's not a bad experience; it's just not good.
Thank you for playing and taking the time to post your review. Our Superintendent and Maintenance Staff have been working very hard to bring the course back in to shape and we are always in process of making improvements to the course. We hope you can give us another try on your next visit. Thanks again
Mount Mitchell Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2017spectacular
The course was in impeccable condition due partly to the fact that carts are never allowed on the course. My sons and I had the course practically to ourselves since we had a late tee time on a rainy day. Fortunately we encountered only a brief shower which interrupted us for about 10 minutes. This is a pristine, beautiful, lay-out with smooth bent grass greens, full bodied fairways, and a troublesome rough. This is mountain golf at its most enjoyable.
Boscobel Country Club
Played On 08/12/2017popular local course
Boscobel's biggest protection is her traditionally fast bent grass greens. It gets so much play that it is difficult for the maintenance to keep the tee boxes up to snuff and the fairways are marred by golfers who refuse to replace and/or sand their divots. Nonetheless, this is a good course, fun to play, and a good test. Taken collectively,16,17,18 may be the toughest 3 finishing holes in the area. It is a walker friendly course.
Broadmoor Golf Links
Played On 08/09/2017a good test
The Broadmoor Golf Links is an interesting course. With good bent grass greens and firm Bermuda fairways it provides the best of surfaces to play. Conditions were ideal the day we played and the course was in very good condition. The staff was friendly and efficient.

Bright's Creek is worth whatever it takes to get you on the course.
Apple Valley Golf Course at Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure
Played On 08/09/2017Elephant burial grounds
Apple Valley is a lovely track whose greens have dramatic undulations. 3 putts is not uncommon if you are not on the proper part of the green. The course is fun to play, There are some interesting elevation changes, doglegs, water hazards and the like to keep you thinking. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The new BBQ restaurant closes at 8.
Arrowhead Pointe At Lake Richard B. Russell
Played On 08/08/2017Superb
The Georgia State Parks maintain a number of excellent golf courses of which Arrowhead Pointe is their show piece. The eye candy enhanced by a number of holes along Lake Russell simply adds to the overall first rate evaluation of the course. The layout is interesting and challenging. All aspects of the course-tees, fairways, bunkers, greens- are well maintained. The staff is courteous and professional. Even the hot dogs are good.
Anderson Country Club
Played On 08/01/2017Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 06/14/2017an urban gem
The course is a beautiful and challenging layout. The fairways have great body, the large, undulating, greens are well-manicured, and there are a variety of tee boxes to accommodate different skills. The staff is friendly and accommodating, though the girl may flirt while other customers wait. The only negative I could mention is that the bunkers need some attention. This is a quality course which demands your attention and expertise to negotiate its challenges successfully. Its slope/rating is well-earned. One playing is not enough.
The Frog at the Georgian
Played On 06/13/2017golf heaven
This is an exceptional golfing experience. The course is generous, but not without its pitfalls. The typical Fazio design has many strategically placed bunkers to catch errant or mis-clubbed shots. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in top flight condition, a credit to the attentiveness of the superintendent and his crew. This is a challenging, fun, layout.
Pickens Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2016sneaky tough
The fairways have good body and the greens roll true. There is a fair amount of undulation on the greens and when they have been mown down and rolled they can be treacherous. That, fortunately, was not the case today. The course is not long, even from the back tees, but it is strategically bunkered. Between the bunkering and the greens bogeys can sneak uo on you in a hurry. It is a fun course and the pro treats you with respect; the snack bar has good sandwiches.
Links O'Tryon
Played On 04/18/2016a worthwhile experience
The Links suffered through some time of neglect but seems to be on the mend. The greens roll true though some are a little splotchy; the fairways are in good shape though some rain would help fill them out . Tee boxes are all right and there are sufficient choices so that you can choose a comfortable length to play. Not the least to recommend the Links is its location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, which provide delightful eye candy as you enjoy the course. The friendly, accommodating staff and tasty snack bar contribute to a good day of golf.
Southern Oaks Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2015popular local course
The course is well maintained and well managed, though the shop people can be a little abrupt. I play here 6-8 times a year and find the course is in good shape throughout the year. The greens are always well manicured and the fairways have good body. Some of the tee boxes get a little bare. Because of the popularity of the course it can get crowded, especially on the week-end, so pace can be an issue. However, mid week, unless there is an outing or a high school match, getting on and around isn't a problem
The Rock Golf Club & Resort
Played On 09/01/2015new name;old course
This rolling, scenic, tract is a target course. A picturesque creek meanders through various holes awaiting errant shots and forcing lay-ups off several tees. Unfortunately the bent grass greens have not fared well during this hot summer; but worse is the extraneous grasses-Bermuda and another invader- that have been allowed to creep in. Maintenance needs to get to work eliminating them. It's a pretty course, worth the visit, but is not in the best of shape. Stop to enjoy the view from the #8 tee box.
Hi "nobignumbers " Thank you for the review and we are glad you enjoyed your experience at the course today. Thank you for coming out and we hope to see you again in the near future.
