A Course that plays different every time.

This is an incredible course that continues to amaze me. I have played it since opening, probably 100 times. Yet, this last round found me in places I had never been, (not all bad) with shots I had to imagine. The course was a little soft after rain, but you still never see mud on your ball. The roll out is there in March like it is in July. Only course in Washington that does not allow "winter rules". The variety of holes and shots will use all your clubs and challenge you to read some difficult greens. They are changing the greens to Poa, which is too bad I think. But so many locals can't read or put on fescue, I guess they got tired of the complaints. Fun to play the holes that the US Open was played on and imagine those shots and putts.

Good if you are 15 handicap or better

This is a beautiful course and very well conditioned. However it is extremely narrow and target golf. If you leave the fairway you're in the desert in the rocks and virtually all those lies are unplayable. If you are not a good golfer under a 15 at a maximum I would strongly recommend not playing this course

Thanks for your review of your experience with us and glad you enjoyed the golf course conditions. We regularly see quite a range of handicaps that play the course on a daily basis as we have a multitude of teeing options available. I would recommend trying different tee boxes on your next visit with us that might make the round more enjoyable.

Kind Regards,

Very Good Track

This is a good local muni. The Course is long enough and challenging enough to have hosted State Championships. It's a parkland course with huge fir and pine trees lining the fairways. It has a variety of holes, short and long that will challenge good players. The greens have been replaced and are in good shape now.

Learn Links or go home

I laugh at the review here complaining about some "temp" green. At Chambers Bay, the fairways, approaches and greens are exactly the same grass. So, they can cut a green anywhere and it will play like the rest of the greens. This is true links golf and most Americans don't have a clue how to play here so they play poor and think the course is bad. Everyone I have met here who has played true links courses think it's great. Last time out I met some Canadians who come down every three months and love it.
In America we play golf in the air with high spinning shots, in Europe they play golf on the ground with low running shots. You have to learn those shots. You have to "read" each hole like you are reading a green, seeing where the ball will end up. There are no forced carries except par threes, so you can always approach on the ground. A good caddie can show you where to hit a ball close to the green that will end up by the hole, but you have to ask. Those hitting their high spinning wedge shots will be punished, just like a British Open.
This course is an incredible opportunity to learn a new kind of golf, but many here are simply to closed minded to get it.

Course is trashed

Have not been here since Oke bought it. This used to be a wonderful beautiful course. Now, the fairways are a joke, half browned out and hard, patchy, green some places, cut randomly. The ponds and waterfall river on the back side par 5 used to be a favorite of mine. Now the waterfall river is not running, the ponds are scumy and the blackberries and weeds are taking over. Our group all agreed that the $50 fee to play was a joke, this is not a $20 course anymore. Played Whispering Firs the next day, it was twice the course and cost $19... Stay away.
