Franklin Canyon Golf Course
Played On 2/9/2013A course where you should score well.
As the name of the golf course implies, you will be meandering up and around canyon terrain. This requires you to keep your ball on the short stuff or you might have to get another ball out of your bag. There are several holes where an errant drive will end up in a barranca (a deep ravine) or out of bounds. This course is a good test of golf if you think you are getting better. For the better than average golfer, you should be tweeting many times.
Rocklin Golf Club
Played On 2/2/2013Enjoyable and challenging course to play.
You will need to play this course a few times to manage your way around. There are dogleg left and rights holes with some hazards not seen from the tee. Heed the hole diagram located on the tee box to locate water hazards that meander throughout the holes. You will also need to read the greens well since some are rather large and quick with undulations. A misread downhill putt can easily become a three-putt. Since this is no longer a private golf course, denim blue jeans can be worn despite the email reservation confirmation stating otherwise. A real bargain whenever the green fees are less than $25 on the weekends.
Castle Oaks Golf Club
Played On 1/28/2013Quick greens with trees and water in play.
The course was in great shape considering the time of year. No lush green fairways but very playable. The greens were very fast. Holes 17 and 18 are very demanding requiring accuracy with trees on 17 and water/trees on 18 in play. A par/par finish would cap a very good round. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me.
Shadow Lakes Club
Played On 1/26/2013Still a good course to play.
Even though the course conditions are not as pristine as they were when originally opened, the course is still challenging. The fairways are not lush but very playable with excellent roll on the greens. With the rather inexpensive afternnon green fees offered daily on golfnow, it is a steal.
San Geronimo Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2012Course does not drain well after rain storms
Played the golf course after a few rainy days which resulted in thoroughly saturated and muddy fairways with standing water. Fortunately, the greens drained well. The only saving grace was the price was right for the conditions of the golf course and there were less than 25 golfers playing at the time I teed off in the late morning. If you are a mudder, this is the place to play after a few days of rain.
The Ridge Golf Course & Events Center
Played On 11/23/2012You must read the greens well to score.
A very well-maintained and challenging course with trees and water in play. The greens are large with many undulations. Your approach shot must be left below the hole or you will be testing your putting abilities to avoid the dreaded three putt.
Roddy Ranch Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2012Always a challeging round of golf.
Well maintained golf course. There are some risk/reward holes with usually speedy greens.
