Lost Greens

Pulling up to the putting green, I saw I may be in for a rough day on the greens. We had to do 2 putt max, as there wasn't a single green that was 100% playable with a smooth roll. We (2some) were off first, and played in under 3 hours. 1 hole the sprinklers were on while we attempted to putt. Another hole, the flag wasn't put back into the cup. I mentioned these things, and the greens and the guy working said it was the weathers fault. I live 2 hours from here, and my club has almost perfect greens. So it's not the weather. 10 years ago, this course was terrific but I guess funding has decreased. Panther's Run looked the same.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Lion's Paw Golf Links. We apologize we fell short of your expectations on this visit. The weather certainly did throw us some curve balls this spring. Though Raleigh is only 3.5 hours away, in this region, even a few miles can make a big difference in the weather conditions you receive. Regardless, we apologize we were not in our best condition on this visit. We are currently doing an extensive renovation on these greens and they will once again be in excellent playing condition for our guests for the remainder of 2033 and beyond.

Great bang for your buck

Bought a hot deal, for $8 per person. I grew up playing this course when it was only 9 holes. The front 9 is the old part, very tight and close to other holes. Tiny greens on the front make it hard to score well. It's also very short on the front. The back 9 is the new side, and much more like an up to date course with several challenging holes that make you create some shots. Greens were in excellent shape on the entire course. Fairways on the front were not great but manageable. The back was much better. I don't think they have water to the fairways on the front side, but may be wrong. I would recommend playing here for the value and challenge of basically 2 different 9 hole tracts.

For only $22, couldn't beat that special price!

They had just punched the greens on Monday, and we played on Sunday. Very slow due to the sand, but still ran pretty smooth nonetheless. Play was pretty slow, as there were several 2-somes on the course. Overall, the course was in good shape, rough was challenging, sand was excellent.

Great elevation changes

If you want a good experience and don't want to pay a ton, this is the place. We played for $15 each on a Sunday afternoon. Hard to beat that price. The greens were in decent shape, and rolled pretty true. Course was very firm from lack of rain. Some areas without grass, but again, for the money, you can't beat it. Lot's of elevation changes throughout.
