Reunion Country Club
Played On 08/16/2018Overall experience less than ideal
The course has a nice, challenging layout but I was not impressed with staff and how it was run. The greens were in pretty rough shape. Overall, I was not satisfied and will likely never play there again.
Chicopee Woods Golf Course - Village Nine
Played On 05/11/2018In good shape
I hadn’t played this course in several years. Since then they’ve made some changes to the layout that I believe are good improvements. At the moment the fairways and the greens are in good condition. I enjoyed my round a lot and will definitely play there again.
Innsbruck Golf Club
Played On 04/14/2018Decent course, relatively empty
Greens in good shape B+.
Fairways get a passing grade C due to need for watering.
Bunkers and water are well placed but the bunkers were not recently raked so they were pretty hard.
I don’t know if it was normal but playing on a Saturday afternoon, this place wasn’t crowded at all and that was great because the pace of play was exactly our pace of play.
Despite critiques above, relative to other area courses, it’s above average and overall I’m very happy and would go back again.
Crystal Falls Golf Club
Played On 12/02/2014Delightful surprise
This is a course that lives up to its course rating. There are others in the area that have 4+ star ratings and aren't nearly as nice as this one. Regular tee times (when you can get them) have free range balls and Hot Deals have an additional $5 charge for unlimited balls which was very fair. Practice area was more than adequate. The course had a great layout. In my opinion it had very respectable amounts of length, contour, hazards, and green size. Nothing stuck out to me as evil.
Relative to the amount of traffic the course had, I was amazed at how good of shape it was in. Condition of fairways, rough, and greens in late fall were still very good.
If Golf Now allowed it, I would give this course a 4.5 star rating. Since they don't, this course is definitely closer to a five then a four. I'll be telling my friends to try it out.
Lane Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2014Well above average
Played for $32 at Lane Creek on Thursday 8/14 at 7:30am. Finished with a 3-some in less than 3.5 hours but we were one of the first ones out. I loved the course layout. It had several short par 4s with great risk reward scenarios be it water or dog-legs or trees and bunkers blocking the green. The par 5s and 3s were standard. I thought the fairways were generously wide except when a short 4 merited narrowness. Fairways are in good shape right now. The greens were still growing back in from being punched a few weeks ago but actually rolled pretty fast and true. I'd expect them to be really fast when they're fully recovered. Most of the greens were large and undulating. No cart girl seen but we finished before 11. There was free coffee in the morning, a nice touch. Overall, I'd play again. I'm an hour away but would play there regularly if I was a local.
River Hills Country Club
Played On 08/01/2014Pretty Good
I like this course. I don't really like it. Foremost, it's short. The most positive part was the big greens in really good condition. The worst part was the in-course OB. Really?? The fairways were in decent shape but turned to dirt/weeds pretty quickly once you got off of them. I'd play there again, but not friends inviting me or a good discount from standard greens fees.
The Georgia Club - Chancellors Red/Black Course
Played On 07/23/2014Delightful
I played the black and silver courses (not red). The course layout was just the way I like it... rolling, large greens, wide fairways, plenty hazards and doglegs to not be easy, but nothing that I would consider evil. The greens were in decent shape, especially for how very soft they were, a few marks and scars here and there. They were mowed tight and rolled true but firm is the opposite of how I'd describe them. It was great for someone like me that needs a little more "grab" since my balls seem to spin the wrong way.
Overall a great experience.
Palmilla Beach Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2014Good course, inflated price
Played 18 mid-week on Hot Deal. This was great bang for my buck with the course in pretty decent shape and far from crowded. The greens were the only thing that could have used improvement. They were not overplayed but mismanaged. The vast majority of imperfections on the greens are from previous hole locations that were dead around the edges and ground under repair not properly marked. To be fair, this problem was not egregious but mild. The greens were still well above average and rolled tight. The fairways were in great shape, mowed tight with great undulation.
The most important thing to realize about this course is that the rough eats balls. If you hit off the fairway, finding your ball is an extreme long-shot. That being said, I didn't feel that any of the fairways were unfairly narrow. If you are one who is used to playing from 5 feet off the fairway and just recovering, this is not the place for you.
Finally, I say that it was great bang for my buck with a hot deal. I'm a local and the ocean view/ experience in the dunes is lost on me. The standard $70-$100 greens fees are probably in line for someone who is wowed by the beach on the horizon but compared to the other local courses, a round at Palmilla Beach without the scenery is probably worth $45-70 (spring prices).
Peachtree Golf Center
Played On 4/24/2013Great For Short Game PRACTICE
This is well maintained but not groomed course in a field off the Chattahoochee River. It is a great place to practice and improve your short game. If you're looking for a beautiful par 3 to play "for real", try Chateau Elan.
Here are my comments with respect to this "practice" course:
POSITIVES - Variable length holes with well maintained grass and greens, Water in play on multiple holes, Not overly crowded with the fast players and slow players (several playing multiple balls) working together to not get in each others way, The staff was friendly, There's a driving range on site
NEGATIVES - A lot of the bunkers have little to no sand, Minimal elevation change (so no practice at that skill set)
Will I play here again?... not really... but I'll practice here and be very happy with what I get. With appropriate expectations, it's a great facility.
City Club Marietta
Played On 4/22/2013Short, Challenging, Well maintained
Played on a Hot Deal and got more than my money's worth. The course in good shape overall. The occasional tee box was pretty tore up and there was no sand available to fill divots but the greens were smooth and the fairways had healthy grass. The pace of play was a little slow but it was a beautiful day so that didn't bother me. This did appear to be a busy course so slow play is probably the norm. The layout was good for a short course with quite a few dog-legs to keep it more challenging. On the other hand, a couple par 4's were short and straight and tight making it tempting/fun to take a risk and swing for the fences.
Chestatee Golf Club
Played On 11/7/2012Very nice course
The facilities were nice and some driving range time was included with my round. The course was in great shape except for the greens which had the occasional patch of grassless dirt. Even though these patches should be replaced, I normally tolerate them around the edges of a green. A couple of greens had patches that crept into the middle enough to affect puts less than 10 feet. I did really enjoyed the layout of all the holes. There were a couple of shorter par 4s that had challenging twists to make up for their lack of length and the par 5s were still plenty long for me. Beautiful scenery all over the place with a good amount of water in play and even more in view. Overall, a very nice course.
Achasta Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2012Nice course to "splurge"
As for course conditions and scenery, Achasta is more than adequate. I thought the number of holes "with a twist" was just right and the more challenging holes weren't beyond a bogey golfer's skill level on a good day. I was a little disappointed that since they probably have quite a few non-regulars playing there, there was no accommodation for understanding the course lay-out. Specifically, there's water everywhere. Creeks, the Chestatee River, ponds, and a lake affect all but a couple holes. They help to add beauty, but if you don't have any idea about course layout, you might as well plan on bringing an extra sleeve of balls. So track down some aerial views or drawings of hole layouts. You'll enjoy it more if you do. Overall, I thought this was a great course to play with a vacationing friend because it's unique and beautiful and challenging. But if you're going to play it regularly, the unique aspect of it doesn't make as much difference and there are several other beautiful, well maintained courses in the north Georgia area that you can play for a lot less.
Sky Valley Country Club
Played On 10/17/2012Endearingly wicked
If this course weren't so beautiful, I would hate it. The layout and scenery are spectacular and playing when the leaves are turning is the biggest cherry on top you can imagine. That being said, the fairways were so soft that my well-hit drives were leaving deep ball marks and coming to rest behind the initial point of impact. Follow that up with the greens being the hardest (firmest) / fastest that I've played on in quite a while and you've got a wicked combination. Are these greens pristine and do they role true? Yes, but it's easy to be pristine when they've been rolled so hard that nothing can leave a ball mark. It's like chipping onto and putting on a hardwood floor. It's hard to find online but this course's slope ratings are 134 from the whites and 139 from the back... not nice. Fortunately for me, I don't really care that much about my score. If you can shake off a string of double bogeys and continue to enjoy one of Georgia's most beautiful courses for what it is, this course is a real treat that I highly recommend to you. If you're looking to massage your ego with respect to golf skills, this course is probably not for you.
Chicopee Woods Golf Course - Village Nine
Played On 9/24/2012My favorite local course
I regularly play Chicopee as my local course of choice. It's, in my opinion, the best bang for your buck course in the area. Things that I use to assess the bang are course condition, size of greens and fairways (bigger is better), contour (I like some elevation change in my fairways), and walkability (Can you get a nice walk if you so choose?). Most importantly, the scenery/aesthetics are nice for a muni. To me, the pricing is slightly better than other courses in the area but you get much more bang at Chicopee, making it my favorite local course.
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
Played On 9/20/2012An Executive Par 3 Maintained Like a Private Club
A 9 hole par 3 course that plays fast as would be expected. You can knock it out in less than an hour if you're playing solo or take a couple hours with friends. It's great practice for your short game. The putting was delightful as these were the best maintained, truest greens I've played on in a long time. If you've got a round to play at one of the other Chateau courses and are feeling a bit rusty, you might consider taking 90 minutes to warm up on these 9 holes. Longest hole was approx 170yd over water. Most holes are 110-140yd with decent elevation change and a few bunkers / some water in play. It more than delivers what it advertises.
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 8/28/2012A Decent Private Course
Royal Lakes is a challenging and fun layout. The course has several holes with water in play and / or significant elevation change that I always find entertaining, especially when I'm lucky enough to start and finish with the same ball. The whole private club mentality (ie- don't drive carts in the parking lot, attendants that swarm for tips at the end of a round, etc) is difficult for me to swallow but that's my problem, not theirs. If I'm looking to play and I can find a good deal on a tee time, I'm happy to play at Royal Lakes.
Chattahoochee Golf Club
Played On 8/23/2012Well kept, moderately challenging muni
This course is well maintained with a novice friendly layout. The fairways are wide and greens are decent size. I like to walk and there's enough length and elevation to result in a good work out. Most "walkers" might even find this course a bit too exhausting. The groundskeepers do a great job and for a muni, the greens stay in pretty good shape. If a good deal for greens fees pops up, I don't hesitate to play at Chattahoochee.
