Twin Oaks Golf Club
Played On 9/14/2013Great course if you get the $5-$10 deal
Course was nice, with a laid back atmosphere. Not too many bunkers or water hazards (could probably use a few more). Numerous sharp dog legs. Greens were nice, with the most undulations I've come across in awhile. Course was well manicured, however when I went, there hadn't been good rain in awhile, so the ground was as hard as concrete, struggled to get a tee in the ground. I played here for the first time because of the deal that Golf Now was offering- $5 for 9 holes with a cart. It was the cheapest rate I've seen on here, so I jumped. As much as I don't really have anything negative to say, at the same time, there wasn't anything really special about it (aside from the $5 rate!). All in all, I'd play there again, but I wouldn't pay more than $10-$12 for 9 holes. It's a good place to get a few holes in at the spur of the moment, but not somewhere I'd make big plans to visit.
Shalimar Pointe Golf Club
Played On 6/17/2013Good Value for the area
Shalimar Pointe is a decent course, but when you factor in the rate for a round, compared to others in the area, it is quite a deal. Unfortunatly it is only 15 minutes away from Destin (Florida), which has some of the nicest courses anywhere. But, to play in Destin requires you to pay Destin prices. I can play a round somewhere 5-10 minutes from the house and pay anywhere from $50-$100, or I can drive 15 minutes and play a round at Shalimar Pointe for $15 (after 2:00), and it includes the green fee, cart fee, a bucket of practice balls, and its not just 1 round, its for as much as you can play! Granted its not as nice as the Destin courses, but for a beginner or weekend golfer on a budget, its a great round. I do have one small complaint though- while they set their last tee time for 5:20ish, and it says cart included in the rate, they will come out on the course and find you to ask you to return the cart at 7:00. While I'm not the best golfer on the basketball team, I find it hard to believe that too many people will finish 18 holes in 1 hour and 40 minutes. And it doesn't even get too dark to play until 7:50-8:00, which would probably give most people enough time to finish. But again, I'm terrible, so there's a good chance this isn't an issue for you. All in all, FOR THE MONEY, you shouldn't be disappointed.
