Clandon Regis Golf Club
Played On 12/15/2023Overpriced track
An okay course, flat mostly and muddy. Greens were good but it’s overpriced for its level. Enjoyable round but will not be rushing back to play as it’s a fairly tame challenge. Several of the holes are just long stretches without much challenge. Hit straight and you’ll score well.
The Oxfordshire Golf Club
Played On 01/14/2018A must play
The Oxfordshire is a fantastic course with similarities to the London Club in its set-up and layout style. undulating fairways, water hazards, risk and reward holes, tricky par 3s, and excellent greens even at this time of year. The pace of play was good even with walking between holes being quite long, but still got around in about 4hrs. The holes with water in play are fantastic and varied with water on Par3, 4 and 5s. The signature holes are excellent. The fairways were a little muddy but otherwise course is in good condition. The clubhouse attached to the hotel is impressive and facilities are excellent. Drinks and food are a little pricey being a hotel.
Sandford Springs Golf Club - Wood Course
Played On 11/11/2017Good course but needs better drainage
Really good course as far as layout goes but was surprised by the poor quality of our back 9, the park course and its drainage. We played the Lakes first and even with the recent rain, being the low point of the course it was in very good condition with the greens running well. Surprisingly, the Parks being on higher ground was really poorly drained and the greens had been recently treated so were sandy and very wet. the course is really good layout and I don't remember it being bad from previous visits but was surprised at how boggy it was. Good clubhouse and very helpful staff.
Royal Ascot Golf Club
Played On 08/27/2017A something and nothing course
Although in good conditions its not a course that sets you alight. It has no risk and reward unless a very long hitter but this would then mean you'd take it apart at under 6,000 yards from the yellows. Holes are relatively flat and meander around the course. What you see is what you get and its doesn't thrill much. All the par 3s are non-descript and have no really challenge. Hit straight and chances are with the right club, you'll hit green and will have 2 putts for par. For a quiet day in hot weather it was a long 5hr round and would concern me if really busy. Clubhouse is very nice and staff very welcoming but otherwise not a wow experience.
Oak Park Golf Club - Woodlands Course
Played On 03/19/2017Fun course but not for the faint-hearted
This course is an good interesting layout but the steep up and downhill section of holes 10-13 can be a significant card wrecker as if unfit you can find you game will suffer for the next few holes as you catch your breath!
The course is a good mix of holes of mixing varying lengths in par 3s and drivable and long par 4s. The two par fives also are challenging in windy conditions. Good clubhouse and facilities and additional 9 holes available on the valley course.
Southwood Golf Course
Played On 02/11/2017Great Short course
Considering the amount of rain and the fact that we had snow on the round this short course held up well. Fairways a little muddy but greens were excellent even having been hollow tined the week before. The course although short is a good test of your position play and short game skills. Good clubhouse and friendly staff but pre round warm-up facilities such as driving range are limited.
