Armitage Golf Course
Played On 10/15/2015Armitage
Best sand traps around in Central, PA area, no rocks & fluffy sand. Some of the best taken care of fairways & greens. Still some bare spots in the ruff on some holes. Biggest problem never addressed in 25 years are some unleveled tee boxes. The top of 8, 3, 15 and 16 need leveled to speed up pace of play.
Dauphin Highlands Golf Course
Played On 10/08/2015Dauphin Highlands
A bombers course with tough par 3s and 2 of the par 5s. Best course layout in Central PA, usually the best course conditions too. A couple of tees need re-leveled now, and some bunkers need rocks racked out again. Also like Springwood, Heritage Hills, Iron Valley, Gettysburg Links, Bridges, & Penn National; but they are more $. A hidden gem is Mountain Valley.
Iron Valley Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2015Fun city, little pricey; but can't go wrong on a Pete Dye layout
Beautiful layout, many elevation changes, excellent course conditions, use yardage book or App to figure your shots. Call they book up sometimes. Pete Dye excels in trying to make every hole unique, enjoy it. In a class with Penn National, Gettysburg Links, Heritage Hills, Springwood, Dauphin Highlands, and the Bridges. Little drive through the woods to find it, don't miss the turn!
Manada Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2015Good course conditions, Average to poor facilites; should be owned by Casino
Mostly open, not to hard, couple of tough holes, average unimaginative layout. Been saying for years, should be owned by Hollywood casino down the road. But the casino isn't smart enough to buy it, and use it to pull in more traffic to their casino - like Vegas does. Simple plan: buy it, buy out the land around it, redesign it, build a resort to stay & play, then add another sister course. They got the money to do it, but they're trying to run the casino Jersey cheap; which is a plan for future failure.
Range End Country Club
Played On 08/20/2015some trouble is sneaky hard
The holes are Jeckle & Hyde, some are straight forward and easy, and some are mean if they aren't played smart. They can reach out and jack up your hole score easily. Ask questions if playing with a regular, clubbing wrong will get you.
Rich Valley Golf Course
Played On 08/12/2015Rich Valley
Pretty open over all, very good course conditions, bunkers need more raking, the most challenging holes start at 14 thru 18. Still a new course, that will be nicer when the trees grow up. Best place around to learn to play golf, because of the off course practice area.
Deer Valley Golf Course
Played On 08/06/2015Deer Valley - New
Fairley open, good course conditions, have to hit a good tee shot on most holes. no lunch, just hotdogs. great senior ride rate, new course that needs trees to grow up to make it nicer later. Yes have to fix lots of divots & ball marks from lazy golfers.
Monroe Valley Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2015Tough to score, good shape
Usually not busy, most holes play tougher than they look like Honey Run. Usually good conditions, little drive off the Lickdale exit. Prefer Mountain Valley up 81 to this and Manada, personally. Good place to hold tournaments.
Links at Gettysburg
Played On 07/22/2015Yardage book or app is a must to club it correctly on some holes
Tough, beautiful layout, excellent conditions, fun time, & great grill at the end. Lack of layup yardage on certain holes will hurt you big time. Priciest course in area, use a discount to soften the price. Little out of the way drive to get there, like Iron valley. Must play if you like tough but fun layout courses.
Mayapple Golf Links
Played On 06/20/2015mostly table top greens
requires good tee shots, stay off the banks, no trees, easy to walk, most greens are table top so come in high or chip it on. food is excellent. dress warm if windy.
Grandview Golf Course
Played On 06/18/2015Worst golf course in all of central PA area
flat unimaginative holes, too firm, managed by a could care less staff. didn't honor bonus buy coupon, with their name on it.
Tobacco Road Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2014Insane but fun, bring lots of balls
Bring lots of balls, no prisoners are taken. Seriously hit great tee shots, or drink liberally. fun time though, must play it for your bucket list. loved it, worth the travel to find it. great for scramble or better ball 1st time. Buy a yardage book to help club you, or at least a phone GPS that shows the hole layouts.
also liked Talamore, Southern Pines, Pine Wild, Pine Needles, & The Pit
Yes a few bad spots on the greens, needed sanded to dry the mud/mold out.
