Aberdelghy Golf Course
Played On 08/07/2023You get what you pay for
This my fourth time playing Aberdelghy, its just one of those courses that always seems to be busy no matter when you're playing it - owing partly to layout.
its been very wet recently and some of the greens were very heavy, pins are always in awkward places here (especially 16th) but Ive come to expect that.
You'll do well to get a course in better nick for £12 (dawn/twilight rate) but I wouldnt pay more than £15 for a course in this condition.
Owing to its price , difficulty and closeness to Belfast, it gets a lot of use- as a result its patchy in places- worse thing has to be the amount of divots left on fairways.
Never seen a course where those playing care less about it- the greenkeepers are council workers and do their best to keep it neat but with wet weather and players who dont seem to care, you're fighting an uphill battle.
There's also at least 3 tee boxes with permanent matts, again owing to how often this course gets played/ drainage.
My ball mustve rolled into a divot 4 times during the round, not the clubs fault but something to bear in mind.
If you havent played Aberdelghy and fancy a course that you have to think your way around (without Driver) , definitely give it a go.
If you're looking for fast fairways and greens, you'll be disappointed but for the money that's to be expected.
Helen's Bay Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2023Great day again
Second time playing Helen’s bay.
Course had been closed day before due to rain but was still in excellent condition all things considered.
Front 9 we flew round as a 2 ball, back 9 there were a few older golfers who just don’t seem to let anyone through regardless of the course but still a great day out.
Best thing about the course bar a couple tricky long par 4s is definitely the views, if you haven’t played Helen’s bay before- it’s definitely worth a visit.
Down Royal Park Golf Course
Played On 06/03/2023Much improved
Not sure what other reviewers expect for 10 quid.
Definitely a course to play April- September but in good condition ( no issue with the fairways) and some really interesting holes.
Could do with more signage though but will be back
Blackwood Golf Centre - Temple
Played On 08/20/2023Slow play , otherwise decent
First time playing at the Blackwood , as a one ball I was hoping to get out first but left it late to book.
Ended up being paired with two other guys such in the GolfNow way but they were happy enough to let me play through. I then spent the next 17 holes behind the slowest 2 ball I’ve ever played behind (given it was a par 3 course). Marking every putt , trolleys in front of every green etc
Not a massive reflection of the course but important to know before you book.
The course itself is well laid out in terms of how the holes flow , albeit there’s next to no signage from hole to hole so i was just following the group in front.
For 14 quid you’re getting good value , but if you want to get round in less than 2 hours- go out as early or late as you can.
Most greens very well kept given the wet summer and the pro was very welcoming.
If you’re looking for something different and want to hone your iron play off the tee, it’s definitely worth a go
Blackwood Golf Centre - Temple
Played On 07/23/2023Course closed
A reflection more so of GolfNow than the club but course closed, no notice from either party. Drove from Lisburn just to be told to go home now have to chase GolfNow for a refund.
Aberdelghy Golf Course
Played On 06/05/2023Good course, harsh pins
Really good day out, playing as a one hall so finished in under 3 hours.
Played here before and must say it’s in great condition, the only thing that let in down was pin positions.
Some were nearly impossible to 2 putt given the slope and it took a bit of enjoyment out of it.
That said, you’ll do well to find a course in as good a condition for less than £20.
Will come back and hopefully the pins are slightly nicer haha
Ormeau Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2023Don’t book this on golfnow
Booked 9 holes as a 2 ball for 7.04pm- when we went to tee off we were told by a random member that we had to let a competition (3 2-balls) play through.
Baring in mind it’s 2 hours until it gets dark, we’re eventually told to start on the third and by the time we’re on the 6th - we’re getting caught by more of this competition we didn’t know we were sandwiched between.
Finished 9 holes after 9.30pm - shouldn’t be allowed to book if a slot if it’s gonna mean you’re out of order with a competition.
You’d think a 9 hole course would be able to think that through , but like many GolfNow bookings, you don’t know what might happen .
Either way, I wouldn’t be back after the experience
Temple Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/23/2023Great value for money
Great course- managed to get 18 holes for 10 pounds.
Condition of course was superb given the weather recently, greens especially
Tees do make front and back nine different challenges.
Members all very welcome and pace of play was decent , bar a 2 ball behind us trying to play out of sequence
Will definitely be back to play again
Cliftonville Golf Club
Played On 04/16/2023Terrible condition
Course has a great layout but unless you hit the fairway, you had a 50/50 chance of losing your ball from in being plugged.
No signage between holes, just to let you know which hole had preference or what tier the green was on (which was wrong).
Has been a very wet winter but this was miserable at times and it was a dry day.
Some holes , the only dry walk way was through the rough.
Greenacres Golf Centre - Championship
Played On 06/29/2021Mixed bag
Course in good nick- not overly long Course and can leak it on most holes. Some lovely holes including par 3 8tb across a water feature.
Loses points because we were stuck with another 2 ball, despite the fact the course was quiet , being midweek.
Never had that happen in many rounds on golf now - just a bit greedy.
Bright Castle Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2021Hidden Gem
Really great wee course I'd never heard of before.
Considering how dry it's been, course was in great nick.
That said, could do with a few maps at each tee to show the hole layout: lots of doglegs and blind shots, especially on back nine.
Sprinklers in and around the green and you couldn't fault the course.
Got a buggy for 25 pounds and the round was 15 so all in all a great day out- class views from a few holes
Scrabo Golf Club
Played On 06/30/2020Needs to be better marked
Overall a good round as a three ball. Were slightly late but allowed to play anyway.
Markings on the course are poor , especially for a course with so many blind shots. Most holes only had a 100 yard marker in the fairway and OOB stakes.
A good course but signage to tee boxes and lack of yard markers lets it down.
Castlereagh Hills Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2018First time back in a while, did not disappoint!
First time back for a year or so.
First course I played as a junior and it's been remapped with the 8th and 2nd swapping.
This isn't an overly long course just around 5500 yards off the yellows.
Some really tough holes like 4,8 and 13 with little room for error but plenty of more sympathetic holes with plenty of space to leak off to.
Course in great knick considering the heatwave, greens especially. Clubhouse still pretty meh with just the cafe upstairs but to be expected with a municipal course.
All in all, you will do well to find a better course for your money with views as good as this in and around Belfast.
Balmoral Golf Club
Played On 04/16/2017Very dull course tbh. Straightforward parkland course with few hazards on any hole other than the green side bunkers. Well maintained nonetheless but not particularly lengthy and no standout holes.
