Lovely

Quite a nice course.

Good layout. Relatively open but many bunkers. The teeing areas were in very good shape. The fairways do not have the usual Florida grass but something that looked Northern. The grass in the rough was thick but fair. Another “Northern” looking grass. It is penal, as it should be. The greens had been stripe aerated some time ago but it showed. They were not fast but it was easy to adjust to them. Very puttable.

The staff was quite welcoming and very helpful. When we called about a group that jumped in at 20 hole, the office sent someone out immediately. The on course ranger also was on the case. They didn’t push the group back but did watch it. That group had been slow on the front as well. They stopped to get a bite and then just hopped right in. Stayed slow as well.

One odd note. The course is not on the GHIN system.

Wonderful Confition

I have played this bourse any number of times do fix not expect it to be in as good condition as it is.
The course winds through a development but also through the hammock areas. Some water, especially on 12 and 1&.
The conditions were very good, better than some of the higher priced courses in the area. Teeing areas get a B. Fairways a B, and greens am A+.
The staff is quite friendly and helpful. It has a small and very basic eating area. The carts are very new with a very good GPS on board.
Great value for price and I will play again soon.

The Course May Be Lost

Have played the course many times in the past 6+ years, in all seasons, and local conditions. It has been one of my favorites in Volusia Count. Rates went up a few years ago And my play went down. (Amazing how that works.) The course is absolutely the worst shape I have ever seen/played. The greens are horrid; almost unplayable. 1 green was closed due to fungus damage; I’m surprised all 18 were not closed due to unplayability. Most of the fairways were burned out. There was no warning from the course or staff. It is unlikely I will play the course any time soon at any price.

Beat up fairways and odd course layout

We played the south course on a cold day.

The pace was very slow; we waited on almost every shot. Because the the slow, pace, we could not finish the round.

Some of the fairways were rutted in many areas. It was shortly after the recent rain (and temporary water) in the area, but the rutted areas were quite old. The fairways need a very good aerating and replacement of grass.
The greens had different speeds/ Some holes were cut in very strange places, almost intended to slow the pace.

Most of the teeing areas were quite beat up.

The course meanders about and often it is difficult to figure out where the next hole id. Signs covered by vegetation do not help

I will not return.

Nothing special

Overall the course is ok. It has few memorable holes (well 17, pure tricker, is an exception). It has water but not often in play. The teeing grounds need work. The fairways and rough have different types of grass (Bermuda and St. Augustine?). The greens were slow and could use a rolling. There’s been a lot of rain recently so the course was wet and maintenance was behind, which was understandable. Practice areas abound but we did not avail ourselves of the opportunity.
The waitress at the restaurant is worth the price of admission. Very good, very personable, and very funny. A good reason to return.

Will play again

When reading this review, please remember that this area of Florida has received much more rain than it usually does.
The course was very wet necessitating cart path only tiles. The wet also affected some shots, limited roll on many shots, and made it difficult to find balls on (the deep) rough.
The teeing areas need work. The greens and fairways were in good shape but we needed to use the casual water rule often.
We played after 10:00 but saw no one else on the course. Pace of play was not a factor.
The course has a ranger and we saw him.
We did not use any of the facilities so I cannot comment.
The course has at least two oddities. The front has two par threes back to back (6 & 7). On the back there are consecutive par fives (17 $ 28).

Will Play Again

Casperkill is about an hour and a quarter away with the trip mostly highway. It is worth the occasional trip.

The course is hilly but riding helps. We appeared to be the only players on the course. No one ahead and no one behind. The weather was glorious; low humidity and 70s.

The layout is good. The course twists about with more than a few hills. All of the greens (except the putting green) were in excellent shape. A tad slow but the rolls were true. The fairways were neat and clean with most divots filled. Bunkers were in good shape.

We played in about 3.75 hours but that included a change in carts (gas). Both the carts we got were a tad balky and one seemed to die. I think there's a secret code to get them going.

We had lunch after the round. Service was prompt. The menu is limited (usual golf course items) but tasty.

The staff was accommodating and friendly. They helped with the golf cart transfer.

Needs Work

Friendly helpful staff. Relatively low cost but high cost for value. Not worth it. Teeing grounds are beaten up, greens red grass in some areas, fairways are poor. Needs a lot of grass seed. No practice area. Did not go to restaurant. Pass it by. It's a well designed course, tight, rewards good shots but just in the process of going to the bottom.
Should be and with work would be much better

Wonderful Course

Victoria Hils is one of my favorites in Volusia County and the surrounding area. All of my guests have marvelled at the course, its layout, and its playability.

The most recent time I played the greens ran gast and true. Finding the line can be difficult since one of the course's defenses is the countour of the greens. There are many bunkers. The sand is unique and can be difficult to play from. If a player doesn't like the sand, don't hit there.

Staff is friendly and helpful.

The testaurant area serves quality food at a fair price. The ptactice areas are big and permit the golfer to worrk on all appects of his or her gain.

Highly recommended.

Needs some work

Overall Venetian Bay is in better than good shape. I think the greens staff is in the process of moving from a summer course to a winter course. The teeing grounds do need help and the greens had been sanded. I could not see (and my ball did not react to) any aeration holes. Nevertheless the greens ran true is a tad slow. Some of the bunkers (none that I was in) need work because of the Hurricane rain followed by baking sun. Fairways and rough are better than other courses I have played. I anticipate that the course will be in better shape in a few weeks.

I like the layout of the course. Some of it is wide open but other areas are narrow. Water creeps in where one least expects it, particularly if she has not played the course before. There are some quirky holes (9 comes to mind) but overall it is a very interesting and challenging course. The defenses of the course are large bunkers and large slopey greens. Wind always can be a factor at VB. The day I played, on some holes, it was a two club wind or more.

The staff was OK except for Beatrice Serra. She was exceptional but I understand that she will be VB's loss as she moves on to LPGA.

Better than anticipated

I had expected the course to be in really bad shape but was pleasantly surprised.
I had heard and read that the greens and tees were bad and that the fairway mowing was sporadic. People have told me not to play the South (Pelican Bay has a North and a South Course) because it is in really bad shape. It is or will be one of those Florida courses going to weed.
On arrival, I noted that there were only a few cars in the lot, a bad omen perhaps. I asked about a putting green and the person at the cash register told me that I could use the chipping green next to the first tee. The kindest description of that green is exceedingly ragged. When my friends arrived, we play and were able to tee off immediately.
The layout of the course is fine. It is (very) narrow but fair. The rough was not penal but with dormant Bermuda it can be hard to find your ball there. I have seen worse at better courses. There is lots of water, more so than on the North Course. Some of the greens needed a lot of help but on the whole they were playable. The greens were slow but relatively consistent. It is not LPGA Intl (actually no comparison) but on the whole not so bad. We went around is less than four hours (four players without knowledge of the course).
The course appeared to attract more players after 8:00 AM and appeared busy when we left. One's pace of play may depend on when one tees off.
The course has a snack bar, which we did not use. We didn't see a beverage cart but didn't expect to. The staff is small but friendly. No driving range (that I could see) and the putting/chipping green rates a one star (it exists).
This course is a great value so don not listen to the nay sayers. I probablywill play again this season.

Enjoyable

Very typical of a "hills" course.. Many ups and downs. Cart not required but very helpful. Fairways were moderately tight Bunkers fit the course but the sand if large grained. Tees were well maintained but small so the some were chopped up.

The greens are large with many undulations. They are fair but with very large breaks.

Sixteenth hole has a spectatular view.

The round was slow (+ 4.5) due to a group in front that insisted on waiting until the green was c,ear becore they hit <150 yard drives.

Likely will play again on a return visit.

Worth playing

Very nice course, which was in good but not great shpe. There are some wear areas and some wet areas in which others had driven their carts. The course has character but the houses around are somewhat close. I prefer them to be farther away

A very nice driving range and putting green.

I would rank DeBary in the top three in west Volusia.

Wonderful course

Wonderful course in great shape. The greens ran true.

Weather made some holes diffficult because it was very windy. Some of the holes played onto the wind or had a severe cross wind. Do not hit a slice into a left to right wind.

On the downside, the course was a bit slow (granted we played as a twosome) but the round was over 4 hours. We waited, a lot.

LPGA is anot a value course. One can get more bang for your dollars at nearby, less famous, courses.

A gold medal course

played on a Sunday morning. Pace was reasonable - less than 4 hours.

The course is in great shape. The real jewel is the greens which are magnificent. The ball rolled true. Interestingly, the putting green mimicked the greens on he course, which is rather unusual.

The staff was quite friendly and helpful.

Make time to play this course, it is well worth it.

Great value

Course needs some attention although I may have played it at the "end" of the season.
Very enjoyable course although the fact that many (most) of the greens sloped front to back was disconcerting.
All told a very fun round
