South/North at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/14/2024South Nine in Poor Condition
We walked 18 holes on the West and South nines. The par 37 West features three par 5 holes. It's in reasonable condition and is fairly open. The South Nine has too many places of very rough tee boxes and inconsistent turf.
The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 08/14/2022Conditions Improving
My wife and I had a pleasant Sunday afternoon round and completed play in less than 4 four hours. Management continues to rehabilitate fairways on the "Road" nine, with the first hole under work and playing as a temporary 80-yard par 3. Recent holes that have been worked on have very nice Bermuda fairways. Some fairways on the Cottage nine are uneven and a bit rough. The greens are tricky on some holes with significant slope and multiple levels, but the ball rolls consistently. The rough will penalize you with crabgrass. It's a decent option that I play once or twice a year.
The Club At Viniterra
Played On 08/12/2022A great August day
My wife and I enjoyed an excellent round after the summer heat wave broke. Fairways, tee boxes, and greens were in excellent condition. This is a challenging course through the woodlands of a slowly growing community. Accuracy on approach shots is very important, with many bunkers guarding the greens. The greens were soft due to recent rainfall, but the ball rolled true and fast.
The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 05/01/2021Nice Day at The Hollows
We played the Cottage and Lakes nines with another couple that booked through GolfNow. The course is in better condition than 2-3 years ago, when multiple greens and fairways were under renovation. Fairways are in good shape, but the rough could use more attention. Greens are tricky, and hard with the recent dry weather. I landed a 175-yard tee shot 1 foot behind a middle pin on #8 of the Lakes, but the ball bounced off the green and I made bogey.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 07/04/2021Great Alternative to HHI courses
We were seeking an alternative to the courses on Hilton Head and Old South provided a very scenic outing at a reasonable cost.
Pros:
Several holes with tidal marsh hazards and beautiful vistas
Lush fairways with substantial landing areas. A few holes were tighter.
Cons:
Smaller greens that were a bit slow.
The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club
Played On 01/01/2020Excellent "Sort Course" alternative
After playing on a very wet regulation par 72 course on 12/30, this course was a real pleasure on New Year's Day. Our group included a novice female, so the idea of a shorter (par 62, 4,000 yards) appealed to me when I made the booking. This is NOT a typical executive course. It has full-sized greens in excellent condition, plenty of hazards (water and bunkers). The bunkers have talcum powder sand and are well-kept. We had a very enjoyable round.
Flamingos Club de Golf
Played On 07/15/2018Hot and Steamy Afternoon
Given the "regular" prices for the nice golf courses near Puerto Vallarta, a Hot Deal for $54 is an excellent value for this course. It was our first full day in Mexico, so I was not surprised by the heat and humidity, but I did struggle and had enough by the end - maybe one too many cadillac margaritas the previous evening. The course is laid out in a park-like setting (no houses), with quite a few interesting holes. Some local knowledge would be helpful on some of the dog leg holes especially on the back nine. Some holes were lined with mango trees dropping hundreds of fresh fruit. We will try it again if we ever return to PV.
Talega Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2018Excellent Course
My wife and I had a great round at Talega on a Friday afternoon. A single golfer joined us with a bit of local knowledge, which is always helpful when playing a course for the first time. Conditions were excellent. The front nine winds through a nice neighborhood, and the back nine is more isolated winding through a scenic arroyo. There are many interesting and scenic holes, some with significant elevation changes. I birdied two of the par fives (#2 and #11) and parred the toughest par 4 (#16), so that helped my attitude greatly!
Rancho Bernardo Inn
Played On 07/11/2018Nice Gem at a San Diego resort
My wife and I had an 8:30 tee time and enjoyed a beautiful morning on the golf course. The course is well-maintained, very fair yet challenging. The toughest holes for us were #10 and #18. Staff was very friendly and offered compliments to my wife after one witnessed her approach shot on #9 as shown on the attached video.
TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course
Played On 07/07/2015Excellent round - but matched with slow partners
As vacationers to Phoenix, my wife and I booked through GolfNow with a Tuesday tee time of 8:55. Apparently another twosome (both gentlemen) booked the same time, so we were paired with them. One of the other twosome was a relative novice, so our pace of play was slow at times, and we definitely held up the twosomes behind us.
The course was in very good shape given that summer had set in. There are several interesting holes, a couple with multiple fairways and risk/reward selections. I scored well on the front nine, and managed to hit the par 5 #9 green in two shots and birdie. The back nine has a series of long and tough par 4s.
We enjoyed our day and would play the course again if we return to the area.
Atlantic National Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2014Excellent conditions - very nice course
Thanks to others who had reviewed this course - my wife and I played here for ~$40 each and enjoyed the course. It winds through a Lake Worth community, with a few back nine holes near the Florida Turnpike.
Typical of Southern Florida, water is in play on most holes, with lateral hazards ready to gobble up stray shots, especially on the many dogleg holes,
Fairways and greens are in outstanding condition - some of the tee boxes have some ragged areas.
The starter was very friendly and informative, but we had an uncommon interaction with a guy that loaded our bags. Before leaving for the first tee, he advised us "No outside beverages - please remember that next time, as it affects our licensing." I don't know if he suspected the contents of my backpack, but the only thing we brought in was my wife's bottle of water. I told him the Coke was purchased at the pro shop.
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your day at Old South. It's a great course at a great price.
