Definitely worth a visit

Awesome location with a fitting clubhouse. Basic driving range (only a few bays - 4/5 - and could do with some TLC) but good enough to hit a few balls prior to teeing off when I got there everyone was hitting off the turf just in front of the AstroTurf bays which was a bit annoying as I had to hit off a bit of a slope - was a bit tight with only 5 of us warming up. Good putting green that was a close match to what was to come on the golf course and there’s a chipping/bunker practice area too. There are some cracking holes on the course, some of the fairways are quite close to others but I thought the layout is very good; nice and open and not a lot of rough to worry about if you’re a bit wayward. A good mixture of short/long holes. I was a 1-ball so caught up with a few groups along my way and I was very impressed by the groups I came across - everyone I came across was very friendly, had a bit of a chat and allowed me to play through unlike most courses where you are generally ignored as a 1-ball. I got one of the special rates on GN, paid just over £20 for the round and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this course to a friend and will definitely be back again soon.

Nice course, very friendly members

I was very impressed by the friendliness and warm welcome received not only by the staff but by all the members I came across.

Pace of play was very good, I was out on my own and got waved through fairly quickly by any groups in front without having to wait which came as a shock to the system as generally when you're out on your own not many groups let you through at other courses.

Playing off the yellow tees the course is quite short (will be playing off the white tees next time). However, the majority of the shorter Par-4s are set up quite well and require a bit of thought of the tee.

The course in general was well maintained & greens were very firm. The practice facilities also looked very good.

If you are looking to join a club or just after a round I would recommend paying them a visit, my first impressions were very good - I will certainly be back again soon.

Gem of a course

Had a very warm welcome at the Pro Shop which made me feel as though I was a member. The club Pro was very informative, made me aware of colours of the different yardage markers, flag positions, general overview of the course and pointed me in the right direction of the 1st as it was my first visit.

The course didn't disappoint, a relatively new course from what I gather, so a lot of young trees gives you the impression it's an open course but it isn't as easy as it looks. There are some really well designed holes, well complimented by the landscape, tight (but fair - risk/reward) fairways and tear drop greens - guaranteed to test your overall game.

I really enjoyed the mix of Par-3s, there are only 3 on the course but they are all of variable length.

Greens were in good nick and are only going to improve over the summer. No wishing you could place on the fairways, they were well kept. My only criticism on the course would be the tee boxes need a bit of attention, a cut and a bit of a level out wouldn't go amiss.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will certainly be back again soon. For £12.50 on TeeOffTimes you honestly can't go wrong, you are getting a lot of golf for the money.

The only thing of disappointment throughout the day was in the 19th - what should've been the cherry on the top! The facilities are excellent but someone really needs to remind Bar Manager that beer lines need to be cleaned regularly. I will reviewing this on my next visit.

Full marks

I've played here several times before and always love coming back.

It always surprises me that the car park isn't packed when I pull in as Rye Hill GC is hands down one of the best courses in the area and for the cost when booking through TeeOffTimes you feel you're on to a winner. Just about every time I've played here, midweek and over the weekend, I've basically had the course to myself. I've never had to wait for players in front (and I like to play quite quickly) or felt pressured to kick-on by those behind which makes for a very relaxed atmosphere and a great round of golf.

The staff are brilliant, you get a warm welcome and a quick talk about the course and the layout by the Pro if it's your first time there. The Pro Shop is very well equipped, there is a driving range where you have to hire balls I believe or you can take your own, putting green etc.

It was cold, wet and snowing when I played. The course is in very good condition. The greens are still running true and holding up nicely. The back tees are in very good knick as usual, however the front tees are temporary from what I noticed, still they were in average condition. The fairways are the best I've played on this winter, they were firm under foot which was greatly appreciated - no wet & muddy shoes at the end of the round! I really enjoy the layout, it's a good balance even playing off the back tees and I like the fact that the Par 3's aren't ridiculously long either.

I will definitely be back again soon. It's a great course.

For golfers of all levels

I've played this course several times and really enjoy it.

The course offers a nice balance whereby the Front-9 has a few longer holes the require a bit of distance and accuracy off the tee to set up a mid-iron approach to the green in comparison to the shorter Back-9 where course management is rewarded, there are also a couple of Par-4s that can be reached by the longer (and accurate) hitter.

The staff at Cherwell have always been very friendly and offer a warm welcome to all visitors. The facilities are very good, there is a floodlit driving range (lessons available), putting green, Pro Shop and the usual Club House facilities.

My only criticism would be the pace of play, the course is well used by members and you can sometimes find yourself stuck behind a 4-ball for a few holes before they consider letting you play through. Saying that, even with the hold up you are still almost guaranteed to get around in a fairly decent time.

I played early Feb and the course was very wet due to heavy rain the night before. The club does take very good care to maintain the course all year round and unless there is a heavy frost the main greens will be in play. Given the time of year the course was in good condition, a few astroturf tee boxes were in play. Should you venture down in the summer months the course is generally in immaculate condition 7 days a week.

I would definitely recommend this course, it offers a unique challenge to golfers of all levels and will test all facets of your game which is why I enjoy going back.

Worth a visit

Very well equipped professional Pro Shop with a warm welcome. Stocking a big selection of top brand golf clubs, great selection of accessories and clothing too if you need to stock up.

Great facilities all round being a country club so no disappointment there either.

The course was playing wet but was quite impressed with the condition of the course, the fairways and tee boxes were in superb condition.

Unfortunately, on the majority of the holes you were playing to temp greens which I guess is fair enough in winter just disappointed we missed out on several great looking holes. Really enjoyed the layout of the course, there were some challenging holes - even with the temp greens in play. There is quite a bit of water and bunkers to test your game which I quite enjoyed. Saying that, there are maps of the hole on each tee so you do know what's waiting for you up ahead.

Pace of play was relaxed and easy, I believe there was a club tournament in the morning but by the time of our booking they were well clear and basically had the course to ourselves.

Will definitely be playing here again again when the greens are back in action. Would still recommend playing there now, good value for money when booking through TeeOffTimes.
