Bucket List Course for sure

This course rivals any private country club that I've experienced. We researched all the courses in the area and there is nothing that can compare to Jack Frost. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and that's just the start. The course itself is one of the most visually stunning layouts I have ever played in my life. Every hole is set by itself so you often feel like you're the only group on the course. We didn't see much but it's clear there is wildlife abound. For those who find mountain golf quite difficult because of some tricked up bounces and such, you will not complain about that here. Everything is fair. If you hit good shots you get rewarded. If you hit it in the woods there's a slim chance you'll get lucky and find it but probably not.

It's got potential

I've been visiting my brother in Florida over the years and the condition of this course has the client they just redid the greens so they are OK but the rest of the course leaves much to be desired all the fairway bunkers are treated as ground under repair because they simply don't have the money to upkeep this course. I know times are challenging but it's a real shame to let this course go especially with its location. I really hope it's able to make a comeback.

Wow!

My favorite ft lauderdale area course used to be jacaranda but now that's number 2. This is one of the best county courses I've ever played in my life. In fact it's better than some private courses I've played before. I have never experienced such good conditions for this price. I've played the course three days in a row and it still will never be boring . Do yourself a favor and play here

One of the best courses in the area

Out of all the courses in Ft. Lauderdale area this is one of my favorites. The course is unique in that is has more undulation than most other courses in the area. I have not played it for several years until this year and apparently they've done some renovations and it shows. It is certainly one of the pricier courses compared to some of the others in the area but the conditions were top notch and the greens were some of the fastest in the area (which I like). There are a lot of forced carries and water does come into play on a few holes but the course is fair for both high and low handicappers if you play the right tees. If you are planning a trip to the area or have not played this course before it's well worth trying.

I always have fun here

The course has it's challenges but it's a very fair/relatively open layout like most South Florida courses. The bunkers are the main defense. I booked through Golfnow but got a little lost along the way and when I arrived the staff was very helpful in getting me out as soon as possible. I was paired with a member and a few locals and had a very nice time. You won't lose many balls here but the course can definitely be challenging if you play the correct tees. I always try to play Palm Aire when visiting family in the area. The value is good and the people there are very friendly. Greens were not super fast but they were not slow either. All in all a great day and a good course.

Underrated by the locals

This course used to host the Honda Classic several years ago. According to some people down there once the course lost the tournament the conditions went downhill. However I decided to give this a shot at the great rates they are offering. I have played a lot of golf this year mostly in New Jersey where I live but I would rate this course one of the better ones in the area. Apparently they have hired a new head greenskeeper and it's really showing. I truly enjoyed the 2 rounds I played while visiting family in Florida and will most definitely play this course again. Conditions were impeccable and the pace of play was great. Course has it's challenges but is very fair like most south Florida courses. Water comes into play on a few holes but for the most part the challenge is the approach shots and avoiding the bunkers off the tee. I have played over 100 rounds this year and would rate this experience as one of the best. Do yourself a favor and give the course a shot especially if under $50 with cart. The staff and starter is very friendly and I have nothing bad to say about this place. I have no idea why it's fallen out of favor with the locals because the value is awesome. Unlike most Florida courses the houses do not come into play. It's truly a great place if you're visiting the area.

Not worth a 100 mile drive play Crystal or Ballyowen over this one

I'm going to be as fair as possible about this review since most courses in the area have been aerated in the past month I'll give them a pass but the greens were very inconsistent in speed but rolled fairly true. I've never been to any Staten Island course but this reviewer right before mine must play bad courses regularly or Wild Turkey must only maintain the bunkers for weekend play. It rained about a week ago and to me it seemed like they haven't raked the bunkers since that time so don't know what this guy is talking about. I got a deal so it's the main reason I still give it 4 stars. However, there is no way I'd pay the regular asking rate for any course that does not rake their bunkers daily. They should be maintained like a PGA tournament course for over 100 asking rate. Plus most have too little sand making them quite firm. You will need to adjust and hit closer to the ball or use a wedge with less bounce. I wasn't in many thankfully but did take note of the condition and it was the same on every hole. The course is pretty open therefore the defense is the wind (it was calm today) and the green side bunkers so why wouldn't you maintain them daily? If I had paid full rate I'd have been really disappointed. With all that said the views are phenomenal. The layout is decent and fair for all skill levels. The staff is super friendly and it was an enjoyable day overall at the discounted rate I paid. The course is open and rough wasn't too high so if you're a single digit handicap you should definitely play the blue tees (or back if you dare). If I had played the whites it would have been way too short. The food and drink are good in the clubhouse though rather pricey but what you'd expect from a course that caters to a more affluent crowd. If I take the ride up there again I'd definitely choose Ballyowen or Crystal. Crystal is a very unique course and unlike any other in the state though it's super challenging if you're not a decent golfer.

I wish we could play the west

It's not that the east is in horrible shape but it's not any better than most courses i've played in the nearby area all at much better values and more challenging than here. I played from the green tees and am not a super long driver. I felt the course played very easy and i had nothing more than 8 iron or less in most holes. The bunkers are in poor shape. It had rained heavily the night before so I'll factor that in regarding any puddles, etc. but others have commented. There really isn't much sand in the greenside bunkers so even on a good day they may be suspect. This course is also fairly open with the fescue being very dry and many balls still in play. Very generous course off the tee right now. I would say if you're a 10 handicap or less to try from the blue tees because i think it'll play much more interesting/challenging and more like mid 80's than 70's. I've played the west years ago when it was semi private and it's a way better course. I would rate the value on a weekend somewhere around 55 bucks.

Must Play Course

I have played a lot of golf this summer and this was the first time playing Fox Hollow. First I'll say I don't see how it's rated only 3.8 stars. That's a huge understatement. This is one of the best courses I've played in NJ ever. If you're a 10 or less handicap play from the back tees and it'll be more challenging and enjoyable. The condition of the course is the best of what I've played this year out of anywhere in the country. Given our summer conditions I felt like I was at a country club of the highest caliber. The views are great from the tees. Everything but 1 or 2 holes plays with elevated tees and either uphill or downhill 2nd and 3rd shots. True mountain golf at it's best. The course is fairly open yet challenging. All types of players will enjoy this place. The only thing that I could barely even complain about is that the greens were aerated a week ago and I assume slower than normal. But they rolled true and were no issue. I can just imagine how challenging they will be when fully back and cut faster.

Great Course, Great idea

This is my second time playing Architects in the past few years and I wasn't disappointed. It is in top notch condition for public course. I think it's such a great idea to model the holes after some of the best designers in the world yet it doesn't feel contrived at all. I love reading the history of each hole prior to playing it. In my opinion this is a bucket list course for anyone within an hour or so drive. While challenging, the course is very fair off the tees and you always feel like you have a shot to recover even with a questionable drive. The greens are very challenging yet were a fair medium fast speed. Yes there are a lot of ball marks as some people have commented but i found them no issue to putting. After all you have the fix the one's in your way before putting or didn't they know that. The greens are a soft condition compared to any other course I've played this year so were very receptive and fair to well played shots. If you've never played this course do yourself a favor and head out there asap.

Maggie's 19th Hole

Maggie's a great place to unwind as it has a crowd and there was live music. The place attracts more than just golfers so was busy. But this is about the golf. Conditions were average or maybe a little below but we've had a long hot summer and some aeration was recently done so I'll give them a little pass on this though the previous comments lead me to believe they could invest a little more into this place. This course is great for beginner/high handicappers as there are not many forced carries and it's very short from the white tees. The major issue I have is that the greens were the slowest I've played this year. The courses defense is really the well undulated greens so if they were rolling faster it would be a good short game challenge. As it stands now, you will 3 putt here once you adjust to the slow speeds. I really wish they'd make this like the other clubs in the area. Layout is fairly open on the front 9 and gets a little more challenging on the back. I would say if you're around 10 handicap or below and can drive the ball 240 or so then the place would be much more enjoyable/challenging from the tips. I played white and it made me feel like a pro.
