Tough, but weather made it tougher

Honestly, I'm sure I would've one, played better and two, enjoyed it more given it wasn't burning hot and humid. The course is pretty long (relative to where I normally play), and the fairway bunkers and narrow fairways give it a links type feel. With that being said, the fairways and greens are kept in solid shape (could be marginally better). The rough is usually pretty tough to get out of, but given you stay in the fairways this course shouldn't be overly difficult. The snack bar at the turn is fantastic, great food and other snacks. The staff is great. It feels a lot longer because it's 90+ degrees out with humidity over 90%, but we weren't stuck behind any pairing for more than a 5 minute wait at a time. Would recommend.

Difficult, but manageable

It really challenges course management. Many holes are 90 degree dog legs, so you have to really manage your drives well and be able to hit that second shot 160 yards+. There's water here and there, but when there's water it is placed in a spot that makes your hole management even more challenging. Greens are surrounded by bunkers on the most part, but there are virtually no fairway bunkers. Long par 3's for the most part, it's a challenge. The staff is very nice but also disciplined when getting people out on time, so don't show up late to your tee time. Water stations at every couple holes, and going out of bounds isn't the end of the world. Plays like a links course, pretty thin fairways.

Slow, but best public course in Greenwich

For being the only public course in Greenwich, it's a very solid course. I'd much rather play here than Brennan, and Sterling is much more expensive when comparing public courses. Practically no water, relatively short course. The back 9 is much easier and more forgiving so if you don't have your best front, you'll be able to save some strokes on the back. Personally, I'm not a member of a private club, so I very much enjoy playing the Griff. Only problem is on busy days, the golf is slow and you might find yourself waiting before your next shot for groups that are several holes ahead of you.
