Crooked Cat at Orange County National
Played On 08/26/2019One of the best muni’s in Florida
We came here on many recommendations from the guys on GolfWRX.
Course is in great condition, even though the greens are recovering from August maintenance. The layout was awesome. We did not expect elevation changes, being used to playing in Palm Beach Gardens. It was a great reminder of our courses on Long Island! Pace of play was 4 hrs as we had two foursomes in front who were not very good. So things moved along nicely.
Nice carts with great lumbar support!!
We also got complimentary lunch and beer, all for $55.
Will be back as we regularly do Disney golf a few times a year.
Atlantis Country Club
Played On 05/06/2018When we saw the group ahead of us hit multiple balls off the first tee and the starter told us they do that because drivers are not allowed on the range, so that is the warm up routine, I realized it will be a looong morning.
When we finally arrived on the first green, we saw the punched surface that was partially filled in with sand. Not rolled at all. Apparently all the greens were airated this past week. Had we been told this when i made the reservation, i would gave made other arrangements. Guess the course doesn’t want to loose revenue.
Overall, the layout is boring. Straight fairways out and back. Both front and back.
Cart paths in bad disrepair. Clubhouse is old.
Well, it’s Lake Worth. What more can you say.....
Won’t be back.
Cypress Creek Country Club
Played On 11/02/2017Surprisingly good!
Was invited by a cousin to fill in.Played 6300yds.
Nice layout! Dogs bith ways on most holes. The par3’s were a refreshingly long. Mblues were ~200yds.
With alot of TLC innthe ground maintenance, this place would be a gem!
Greens were slow but true.
Brentwood Country Club
Played On 05/30/2017Had fun first thing in the morning
I showed up at 7:15 am and got right out by myself. Nice layout, pretty close to home. Course is mostly flat with wide fairways, hard to loose a ball here. The fairways were nicely cut with no bare spots that I could find. The greens were mostly flat with little break, and not as quick as I am used to, but probably due to all the rain recently. I imagine during the dry summer they are quicker.
A fairly easy track, the back side has short par 4's so using driver is not necessary. I hit to a 100 yd spot and was fine.
I played behind two groups of four, who were both very nice to allow me to hit up and play thru. That's the kind of friendliness I like on a course.
I will be back to play early!!!!
The Heritage Club
Played On 05/03/2017Very slow play
Was not impressed. When we arrived, it looked impressive. Beautifully landscaped. Fairways were very lush. The greens were awful, with crazy swales and very gimmicky. You never knew where your ball was going. The starter, who was very nice, told us they were running around a 9. Maybe a 5, with all the sand on them.
We were a twosome stuck behind an 'outing' of 20-24 golfers, or should i say playa's. You know the type....once a year players together at a Myrtle Beach course. We finished 11 holes in almost 4 hours eaiting for these clowns. Spent more time inthe cart waiting than playing golf. The marshall kept assuring us that the pace would pick up after 7 because the morning players were getting done. Well, it got slower and slower.
This is the second time we walked off a course because of slow play.
Won't ever be back!
Oyster Bay Golf Links
Played On 05/02/2017A pleasant suprise!
Very nice and scenic course. Beautiful location.
Weather was perfect, 80* and a Carolina Blue sky!
Course was interesting but fair. Some of the traps were cement hard, due to recent heavy rains. So you had to chip instead. Oh well.
Tee boxes and faurways were in really great condition. The greens were really slow. They needed cutting and rolling, but again, recent heavy rains were the cause.
Lots and lots of baby alligators.
And I have never see a Fox Squirrel before. They are huge compared to a regular one.
I will play here again when we return to Myrtle Beach in the fall.
Legends Golf Resort - Heathland Course
Played On 01/11/2017Boring......
Not particularly challenging course. Boring, actually.
We never experienced a wait on any hole, we set our own pace of play which is typically waaay under 4 hours. We did maintain a visual on the group ahead so they never got away from us. However, the group behind us were running up our butts at every opportunity, although they never hit into us. When we met up with them at a par 3, they said the group behind them were pushing them.
Apparently, the staff at the start pushes as many groups out as they can, as you've read in other reviews.
We still finished our round in 3.75 hours, so why the push????
As for the startng que...... we arrived about 50 minutes before our tee time and were not given one of the many empty carts. We were told they will call us 15 minutes before our tee time. Everyone just sits around with their bags. It was about a 500 yd walk to the range, where i paid $5 for 30 balls. There are two hitting locations but only one was open and it was so packed, people on top of other people, im suprised nobody got hit by a club. The range was not a flat deal with pins placed but a hilly, rolly field. Couldn't tell my distances at all.
Then another 500 yd walk with full bag, back to wait fir our cart/tee time. Our names were called and we were loaded up and immediately told to go. Where???
Follow the signs, they said.
Got to 1st tee box and there were 3 groups ahead of us.........
One more thing. The staff's attitude gave me the impression we were being 'allowed' to play their course.
Won't be back.
Southwinds Golf Course
Played On 12/29/2016A very nice, albeit very short course. Middle tees were maybe 5400 and the back played about 6000 yds.
Very well maintained course. Tee boxes were lush, the fairways were excellent with nary a bare spot anywhere. The greens were all excellent, but there wasn't much break to them.
The only drawback I found, was the mostly older crowd that plays here doesn't know how to walk across a green in cleats, without dragging their feet. I think I did more tamping down cleat marks with my putter than the maintenance guys did. I should send them a bill- LOL!!!
Also.....old guys, I know it may be difficult to bend, but at least try to fix your ball marks on the greens.
Other than that small complaint, I will definitely return for another enjoyable round!
Thank you for your review of Southwinds. We are happy to hear you that you enjoyed the course so much and found the it to be in such good condition. We understand your frustration with the cleat marks and thank you for helping to spread the word on proper golf etiquette. We hope you will come play the course again soon.
Martin Downs Country Club - Osprey Creek Course
Played On 10/29/2016Old and tired
I imagine that 20-30 years ago, this was one of the top courses in the area.
My initial impression upon driving up was the building needs a complete make over, it looks old. Dirt and rust drippings on the exterior do not look like an upkept club. The guys in the proshop were very nice, getting us out quickly.
The couse was not particularly difficult. We played at 6200 yds. Most of the tee boxes were worn out with sand and crabgrass. The fairways were in very good shape and the grees were quick and in good shape.
But it is an old course in need of an update, which woulf probably raise the rates considerably.
Great Rock Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2015Most challenging greens anywhere
Had our league outing here. Great choice by the members.
Feels like we were playing at a private course.
Course management is a must. Try to hit in front of the pin as the super fast greens were hard to hold. Breaks are hard to see and more than you will expect. Definitely kept it interesting!
Will be back as a regular!
Awesome! So glad you loved the course and are coming back as a regular at Great Rock Golf Club! We're happy to hear it was an interesting variety of shots. See you soon!
Cherry Creek Golf - The Links Course
Played On 04/12/2015Boring.....
I found this course to be nothing special. All the holes are straight down the fairway and sand traps protecting the greens. No real skill required except you must be able to hit the ball a long way off the tee to be able to get on the greens in 2 (par 4's) and 3 (par 5). The par 5's were typically in the upper 500 yd range, making it difficult to make even par. The 18th hole is a joke - 600+ yds par 6.
There was no starter and no ranger on the course. I frequently saw older players driving right up to the greens to putt.
I highly recommend the Woods course across the street. Much more interesting and challenging!
Yep, your review is "spot-on" about The Heritage course. I also have walked off the course twice. The last time we left the cart in the parking lot. We have a place in Pawley's Island we use for weekends etc ..... play golf in the area all the time but will never step onto Heritage again because of the pace of play.
