Sandwich Hollows Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2022Best value in eastern MA
I've been playing this course for 15-plus years during visits to the Cape.
There are better courses on the Cape, but they charge a lot more and aren't anywhere near being that much better. This is a legit course, moderately challenging, with good conditions, and very reasonably priced. It's flat-out the best value in eastern MA.
Red Tail Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2022Under-Performing the Design
I've played here multiple times, incuding the first month or two it opened. When they were charging $2 for a yardage card because they hadn't gotten around to putting yardage markers on the course yet. Yes - they charged you more because it wasn't completed. That pretty much set the tone for the management of this course over the years - they just don't get it.
Put simply this is not a $100+ course. The layout is very good - challenging albeit pretty unforgiving. The conditions aren't good, but it's been a cold April so I'll kind of give it a pass, but they're still charging $100.
No GPS in the carts. Really? For $100?
Tee sheet was not full and the round took over 5 hours. That's pathetic.
Bartender was friendly, food was good.
Overall, the experience isn't even close to being worth the $. Right now The Pinehills is charging less for a dramatically better overall experience, from the time you drive onto the property to the time you tee off. Sure in peak season they are more, but they are twice the experience at less than twice the cost.
I wish it wasn't because the layout is the best around, but the course right now is a ripoff. They're living off their press.
Bayberry Hills Golf Course
Played On 08/18/2021My Favorite Course on the Cape
I play this course 4-5 times a year, and have been for 15 years now. This is my favorite course on the Cape - not by a lot, but given one public course to play, I'll take this one. I've played all the others down here - plenty of good ones, I'll take Bayberry Hills.
Maybe it's just that the routing fits my eye, don't know. No stupid holes, holes are separated enough to where you don't have the shooting range effect, Pace of play isn't memorable for me - seems pretty normal. I like the range and practice green. Conditions are usually good to very good. Greens are challenging when they're rolling.
I will say they were overpricing it pre-Covid, but at least in 2020-2021 they charged less than they had been. Golf on the Cape is expensive in the summer, and was glad to see this course show some common sense and come down to where they're about the same as Olde Barnstable, Cranberry Valley, and Captains.
Breakfast Hill Golf Club
Played On 09/30/2019Solid slightly above average public course - 3-3.5*
This is an average to good course, nothing spectacular at all. It was a little tricky, the course conditions were fine but not spectacular - a solid 3-3.5* course. When I look at courses that are at the top of the public heap, like The Pinehills, or Red Tail, or Bretwood in Keene - this course is not competitive, it's not a 4*. I'd put it on par with a Passoconaway, Amherst CC, Trull Brook, etc.
Nothing "wrong" with this course at all, it's just a solid to slightly above average public golf course. Not a destination by any means.

Greens were in great shape. Played very quick for general public course, and rolled pretty true. In fact with the slopes of the greens, if they played any quicker they’d be unfair.
Course is still pretty wet. Not much the owners can do about that. Geese are out of control. No idea what you can do about that. Get a dog maybe.
Nothing too bad to say, it was a decent course, better than many. Get rid of the geese and I’d give it a 3.5.
To address the reply from the course - you can't do much about how wet the course is. Obviously that impacts the areas just off the fairways that are overgrown and soggy. It just makes it a "meh" experience, but again - not much you can do.
What can you do? Figure out the geese. Get a dog or something to run them off. I probably wouldn't go back just because of the geese, it was that bad. A couple of holes were just disgusting, not to mention some of them had little ones and they'd block the cart paths when you tried to pass. I was walking, and that made it even worse.

Nothing special, it’s an okay course. Nice people, no issues using the GolfNow hot deal, which made it a great deal. If I lived near there I’d play it again.
They could use a couple more signs telling you where to go, some long twisty routes from green to the next tee. But not a big deal.
Conditions are okay. I think a big issue is they they have so many trees, they block the sun from getting to the grass. But for the money the conditions are just fine.
HUGE issue with idiots who don’t repair their ball marks. That was the single biggest problem on the greens. I fixed 4-5 craters every green and didn’t make a dent.
Layout is okay. A lot of quirky layups off the tee and a few forced carries but not too bad. One exception is the 9th - the tee shot is completely unplayable from the blues if you play a left to right ball flight. Even if you hit it straight you have a super tight window to keep it in play due to the trees on the left. It’s just a really dumb design. Especially when left to right is such a common ball flight.
